(Daily Star) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/g...ers/7323813.stm - Time to cut our losses...?? You can add him to a long long list of Leicester strikers who seem like they're quite good but never seem to score any goals for us. Of the strikers we've got he's one of the only ones I'd still like to be here next season. I'd personally start him up front with Howard.
Ric Flair Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 DJ is beingwatched apparently....: (From BBC gossip column)Leicester's former Birmingham striker DJ Campbell is being watched by Watford, Charlton and Cardiff. (Daily Star) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/g...ers/7323813.stm - Time to cut our losses...?? Exactly what are they watching? He barely plays and when he does, he misses sitters. So unless they are going on past glories I fail to understand what they have been watching that will impress them. Unless he's been scratching a bit of grime in Liquid & Envy and it's caught Pardew's eye.
Thracian Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 They are watching a guy who's speed and impish movement can unlock the tightest defence and maybe they think they can use him more effectively than us. As our team get's better players so Campbell will reap greater benefit. As I've mentioned before, marking Fryatt would be one thing, marking Campbell something altogether more difficult.

Agreed, it quite hasn't happened for him at city but he has bags a pace and abt of skill, and more then qualified for this division!!
Bellend Sebastian Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 He's been carrying an injury for ages, hasn't he? I wouldn't write him off just yet. I'm not saying he'll become a talismanic figure like Claridge, but when Super Stevie first came to the club he was hopeless and it turned out that he'd got some weird disease and when that was cured he was ace. It's easy to make a judgement on a player that's not firing on all cylinders. DJ says he's been in a lot of pain in some games, so it's hardly surprising he hasn't really shone yet
Mort Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 Unless we can get one maybe two more decent strikers in, there is simply no point in selling DJ, leaving us with Howard, Hayles, Hume and Fryatt... Campbell has the pace and skill to do very well for us and has look far the best of our strikers (not hard and it's all relative of course), some of the kids comming through have promise but we're already falling short up front so ditching our one quality, out and out striker just seems daft.
Joe. Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 This DJ bashing does annoy me at times. The guy's hardly played because of injury, as Bellend Sebastien said, don't write him off yet. He's not a bad player for the team and I would personally like to keep him. Obviously if the offer was substantial we should probably accept it but I doubt we'd be able to recoup the £1.6 million (NOT £2.1 million) we paid for him.
Number1flanker Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 DJ has got 2stay His finishing isn't up to scratch but his work rate, pace and ball control are good. Keep DJ
teblin Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 Think the only reason he's not playing is because he's not fully fit.
lildave3 Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 DJ has got 2stay His finishing isn't up to scratch but his work rate, pace and ball control are good. Keep DJ Work rate yes, pace yes, stay yes. Ball control though I disagree with.
dandannieldanok Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 I'd be happy to see him go, along with 95% of this squad. Granted he hasn't had a good run in the side but I don't personally believee he's as good as people hope/think he is. Plus, unlike Hume and Fryatt, if he isn't scoring he is offering you practically nothing.
Bryn Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 Hmm... if we can get about what we paid and we have a replacement lined up, I see no reason not to sell. But otherwise, he's a good player. I think Thracian is right to imply that he could be better used; I think you'd see him score a lot of goals at a well managed club.

Never been that impressed with Campbell before he came here and since he's came here my opinion has worsened but I accept he's had a tough season, he has pace but the amount of one on one's that he misses is disgusting for a player who could potentially cost us £2.1 million. He is difficult to mark, but he doesn't play to his own strengths. Doesn't read the game well and is often found wanting inside the penalty box. I know your going to come back with some Fryatt related regalia, but quite frankly that is irrelevant. Fryatt is another who should be fooked off out of here.
Flynny Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 It's taken us the best part of a season to scrape together a fairly quality squad. DJ is potentially one of our very best players and we need to hang onto him. Unless we get 2-3 million for him and can buy someone with similar qualities. Which I doubt very much.

When he had his little run in the side a few games ago he wasn't scoring but he was working hard for the team and really causing problems at the back for the opposition. Generally I'd say he offers more to the team than Fryatt.

We need to let him gel together with the current players.
Staf Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 I think we should let him go if we can get a a million for him then great i know we have lost quite a bit of money on him but personally i would be happy to see him go
surrifox Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 Charlton would be an obvious choice he could form a devastating partnership with Izale Mcleod
The Stig Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 I've always said if strikers don't score goals get rid. However, this does not apply to DJ, as he's barely had time to let his feet touch the floor. This season he's had injuries to contend with and no wingers to supply him with for the most part. He can be a good striker here and I think its about time we give him and Howard a regular place together, make em work hard in pre-season and we could have a nice strike partership there. But, it is in The Daily Star so it must be true, he's good as gone.
Lovejoy Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 Charlton would be an obvious choice he could form a devastating partnership with Izale Mcleod Personally though I would want him to stay. He is better than the likes of Fatty Fryup, who should be sold imo.

DB11 Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 DJ has got 2stay His finishing isn't up to scratch but his work rate, pace and ball control are good. Keep DJ Same as Hume if that's all he has
davieG Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 I'd like someone to resolve our overall lack of goal scoring before 'blaming' any one striker. For the last five years every striker we've had has struggled to score goals in a Leicester City team. During that time we've rarely if ever had one decent winger available/playing never mind two and until recently our midfield has been shocking. I feel the curent crop of Howard, Hume, DJ, Fryatt even Hayles all offer something different and can be used tactically either from the tart or as subs. They're not necessaarily the best but the big question is if we get rid can we do better? The obvious answer is yes but until we resolve our fundamental inability to score I'd can't imagine anyone doing any better.
