Only thing I could find is this. It was over 20 years ago though so might be slight change in attitude.

There’s one last element to throw into the mix: the players’ preferences. Though both the WTA and the ATP (the men’s tennis entity) did not have player surveys at hand, there was a survey done back in the late 1990s by the French magazine, Tennis. That survey asked 108 top players to rank the four Slams in order of prestige. The ranking went as follows:

  1. Wimbledon
  2. French Open
  3. U.S. Open
  4. Australian Open

Yeah probably something like that if you were forced into it, but they are generally all seen as much of a muchness.

My lovely wife is rather too impressed with Rafa's muscly arms for my liking.  He should retire on a high and stay of the television!

You mean arm Jon? His left is 3 times the size of his right

Del P calling it a day. Such a shame his career has been marred by injury - there was a time he looked like he was going to rival any one of the big three at the time.

Gutted about this. Great memories in particular of watching him play Rafa at Wimbledon in quite the battle, not to mention the Olympics final against Andy (although I wasn’t fortunate enough to be at that one!).

What shitty news to wake up to.

As a huge fan of Ash, I’m gutted.

An absolute joy on and off the Tennis court, plus it was nice to see a Women’s player actually play with some consistency.

A big blow for the WTA.

I guess she might be back but probably has other plans in mind which fulfil her more .

Think Barty played cricket before becoming a tennis player so might try another sport ?

Doubt COVID helped - she had to to miss a lot of tournaments or stay away for a long time during this period.

She played tennis to about 18/19 in 2014 then stepped away to play cricket for a couple of years until 2016 when she returned to tennis.

This time she's actually said she's retiring rather than stepping away, and said things like "absolutely spent" and "physically nothing more to give" so it would seem unlikely she'd return, or even try another sport at this time. But at 25, never say never, maybe a year or two off and she might have a change of heart.

She's won every grand slam if you include doubles in the US open. The dedication and training needed to stay at the top is unreal. She probably looked at upcoming players like swiatek and knew she wouldn't be able to compete at the top if she didn't give everything.

Jack Draper up to 45 race, with a final to come. He's having a very impressive season clocking up points in challenger events and has won quite a few tournaments. It will be interesting to follow his career over the next few years, but he's currently number 3 out of the 'Next Gen', so looking promising so far.

Looks like we’re about to enter the Alcaraz & Swiatek eras.

I have to admit I haven't watched that much of Swiatek, but Alcaraz for me is going to have a career to rival the big three. Seems a really nice guy as well - he's going to have a lot of fans.

More success from Jack Draper today as well, winning his fourth challenger tournament of the year. I believe that's taken him to something like 37 in the race, 120 in the overall rankings (and it will take some time for that to catch up with his current form because of how they are doing the rankings at the moment).

Alcaraz & Swiatek just seem to be built different, compared to others coming through around them, especially from a mental standpoint.

What they’ve produced this season, plus what they’ve produced in their career finals, is nothing short of remarkable already.

Fully agree with the likeable point, the likes of Medvedev, Zverev & Tsitsipas can come across as bellends, but Alcaraz has the likeable factor, clear to me that he’ll be the fans favourite in years to come.

Russians and Belarusian players banned from Wimbledon.

Suspect it's come from the powers that be in Government and Wimbledon have followed their orders.

Not entirely sure what I think about it. Surely they are representing themselves rather than Russia? If it were Davis Cup then yes I would completely agree.

I think it’s stupid. Rublev for example has vocally written plenty of anti-war messages and yet still gets punished for something which he has no involvement in. Medvedev has been less vocal but I still think it’s ridiculous personally.
