Sparky Posted 29 July 2008 Share Posted 29 July 2008 Love a bit of the smiths , queen fooking rock , The jam are to my liking as are T Rex , The Stone Roses are up my street , Oasis , Blur , the verve and many of the 90s britpop bands will stay with me forever as that was my growing up era , i even dabble in fair few rock ballards type bands Reo speedwagon , Whitesnake etc . Bowie / Clapton / Bon jovi all get an airing in my place , and to throw a bit of cheese i dont mind a bit of lionel Ritchie . And also even if its against the run of play i do like a few of todays artists Foo Fighters , Pigeon Detectives , Kasabian , Killers . fook , i just noticed this is called Music i HATE Anyway i leave you to abuse my taste as im regularly told its shit !!! In fairness the thread is a fantastic way at looking how people view music and its eras and genres and has kept me entertained but in all honesty people have their own personal choice and who gives a shit if tom dick or harry dont agree with you

MC Prussian Posted 30 July 2008 Share Posted 30 July 2008 Bon Jovi - sorry, I'm a guy and not into hairy hermaphrodites with a sandpaper voice Nickelback - simply gruesome, every track sounds like the previous one, the only thing growing here is the Chad Kroeger's hair Madonna - sells well, sounds awful, as plastic as produced pop can be James Blunt - Please go back to where you've come from, your voice is as interesting as Prince Charles' underwear of the day, plus your lyrics are highly repetitious Lenny Kravitz - had one good album back in 1993, but that's about it R.E.M. - the American equivalent of U2 Coldplay - two good singles to start with, everything else that followed an annoyance to every healthy ear - Mr. Martin, how about not whinging in every lamenting song of yours? Dido - what a voice. Totally forgettable. I almost tend to fall asleep when I hear that woman on the radio. Dullness at its best. Gwen Stefani (to a certain extent) - she does everything, but nothing really good, and she just has no voice Shakira - sounds like someone tried to strangle her, but failed and now she's stuck with that awful, squeaky frog voice And I agree with the claim that most "indie" bands sort of sound alike these days, f.eg. The Vines, The Hives et al.

MC Prussian Posted 30 July 2008 Share Posted 30 July 2008 Vines are no indie-sh*te. Tell me what the difference is when you compare the style of their newest album and its predecessor. Don't they all just sound the same? And btw, I didn't say they were "shite". I was only pointing out the fact that their style of music is pretty much a narrowly-focused one. Lillehamring Posted 30 July 2008 Share Posted 30 July 2008 when i was on holiday last week, we took a boat trip 'around the bay'... and as it pulled away a nasty old PA kicked in at a volume preventing even close conversation...and then, horror of horrors, my idea of a living hell, they proceeded to play the greatest hits (sic) of........M-people.... i had no idea just how many awful songs they made... absolutely vile... oh, and as if this nightmare could not have got any worse, our escape from this floating musical prison was delayed by the boat breaking down! LeeCovFox Posted 30 July 2008 Share Posted 30 July 2008 It says it all to me that the bands/artists I find myself listening to now are The Smiths/Morrissey, Pulp and the like, above anything I have heard in recent years. For me Belle and Sebastian are the exception, not because they break any musical barriers, but because in their lyrics they are unmistakeably the same band which produced Tigermilk 12 years ago. Indie, it seems to me, barely exists any longer. Indie wasn't just about not having a major label, it was about the lyrics and the tunes. Even now listening to the lyrics and vocals of Jarvis Cocker feels like I am sifting through my own, darker, seedier thoughts. The closest modern band to them in my opinion are Maximo Park. I think they are excellent, but they cannot touch Pulp for me. In terms of originality, there isn't an awful lot, but another of my favourite bands, the Young Knives, stands out. Master Fox Posted 30 July 2008 Share Posted 30 July 2008 Not in Serbia. Seriously though Exit Festival takes the piss out of pretty much any British festival. Perfect weather, original acts, beautiful setting and £1 a pint. Not all festivals happen in Leeds and Reading y'know...I agree with a lot of what you said but originality IS there, maybe you just don't know where to look or you've given up the search? oh, how was it JTB? Good time? Who'd you see?

As in first few albums quite good, then they had a taste of success and decided to make money instead of music And as far as I'm concerned, nowadays U2 are American. Tommeh Posted 30 July 2008 Share Posted 30 July 2008 I think all the artists I'm really into at the moment have featured once in this thread, many bands artists a lot more! If that makes my music shit then its your opinion, I actually like the chart stuff of today a lot of the urban/ pop songs out, chris Brown, Neyo, Usher etc. Love coldplays latest songs and also a lot of rap and indie stuf probably the 3 genres slagged off the most in this thread, but the thing is I don't know too many people personally who dont like this type of music, this forum seems to have many people who really take their music seriously. Although I do hate the Ting Tings and Scouting for girls

James. Posted 30 July 2008 Share Posted 30 July 2008 oh, how was it JTB? Good time? Who'd you see? Mate it was absolutely ridiculous. Bit of a disservice discussing it in a music you hate thread because this couldn't have been more opposite. As I said in the previous post the weather was fantastic, the setting was perfect (massive fortress with over 20 stages, enormous main and dance stages), brilliant sound systems, wicked people, great atmosphere, so much fun. And £1 a pint. Camping was crazy - so hot. You would get back to your tent about 8am, chill for a bit and then attempt to sleep in 35 degree heat! I reckon I slept less than 15 hours over the whole 5 days... got pretty full on towards the end! The Streets put in a surprisingly good set, really got the crowd going. DJ Hype and IC3 were good, Roni Size played probably the best DJ set I've ever heard with the sun rising, Dyamite was on fire. They absolutely rinsed it, dropping Thriller at about 7am! 1000's and 1000's of people still going strong. High Contrast was top notch as well, again playing into the sunrise the next morning. Primal Scream were good, Benga and Skream almost blew the sound system with massive bass, Noisia was dark and dirty and 2 Many DJ's were amazing. So many more as well. You have to go. Never experienced anything like it. You'll be a state by the end, it's f**king hot and very dusty. People were seeing lung specialists and all sorts after. Hardcore. But I'm pretty confident there's not a festival out there that would come close.

Anorak Posted 30 July 2008 Share Posted 30 July 2008 iceland - totally where it is at a little general, i think, especially if you consider a band like Sonic Youth, the *cough* grandparents of grunge - who were very definately spawned from punk... iassume you are perhaps veering towards the pearl jam end of grunge You're right, i was just talking a general point about the bigger grunge bands - Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Sceaming Trees etc. You can argue a lot about the different types of bands who warrant a mention when discussing the genre but 90% of media attention and record sales came from 5-6 bands from Seattle whose sound was more classic rock influenced than punk, although there were traces of that as well.
