Matt Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 What has actually been said? Pretty much what it says on the tin if you read through the thread. Radio Leicester has reported the rumour that a bid of £4,000,000 has been tabled by Tony Mowbray of WBA
Stevosevic Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Pretty much what it says on the tin if you read through the thread.Radio Leicester has reported the rumour that a bid of £4,000,000 has been tabled by Tony Mowbray of WBA I had read through the thread, wasn't really very clear. I wonder who their source is?
Salieri Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 For me Fryatt is priceless, he is the difference between us going up and being stuck in this league. Dont sell him and risk losing him for nothing in the summer.Promotion is more important than cash. Spot on. £4 million is silly money for Fryatt but unless we immediately snap up a striker who's gonna be able to knock them in at the rate Matty has so far this season then it could lead to our demise. Howards forgotten how to score which really leaves King and Dyer as our main source of goals! £4 million and league 1 football next season or promotion (even if it means Fryatt leaving for next to nothing at the end of the season) is a no brainer in my opinion. And lets face it, Mandy would pocket the bulk of the cash anyway!
Samilktray Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 I havent stopped giggling at this. £4 million. Quality.
moonhead48e Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Fryatt would rip the prem apart, and keep WBA up.
coale39 Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 I wouldnt accept anything below 4.1million. Go away Mowbray!
Thracian Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 It would all depend on things we don't know. Four million pounds would certainly focus Mandaric's attention. It's a decent sum in today's economic climate. The thing about Fryatt this season is that he's lasted the course and he cogs in with Howard. I've yet to see signs that Dickov or DJ would do the same nor do I imagine Pearson sees Hayles as the way forward. So we'd probably have to look for another striker and all the risks that would go with that. That striker would surely cost us, we'd have to pay some of the Fryatt fee to Walsall so, bottom line, the money left in the bank wouldn't look so good and even less so if we lost momentum and didn't get promoted. Fryatt is still young. He could still go places with us. I don't believe he will save West Brom's season so I doubt his experience in the top flight would be more than momentary. I just wonder, though, if he has a clause in his contract about having the right to go to a Premiership side if an offer is made at or above a certain figure. Bottom line, if we have a choice I'd want to keep him. Who could we possibly sign who'd be guaranteed to match Fryatt's 22ct goals so far this season? And why would we take the risk unless we really needed to?
Lovejoy Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 This a definately a toughie. £4m for a League 1 striker is excellent cash, but personally I'd only sell if we can line up someone who's going to come in, hit the ground running, and score double figures in the 2nd half of the season to maintain a promotion push.
Solihullfox Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 IF Fryup went to WBA he would score no more than a couple more for the rest of the season, that's if they let him take the pens ! I do hope this is true - I work with a number of avid Baggies fans and I really will be able to giggle my way through every Monday morning in the office as the calls of derision bounce round the office " Four million, four million, for that - cows arse and banjo" etc.
Webbo Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 I'm a big fan of Fryatt's but for that money I'd snap their hands off. We proved today that we can win without him scoring. But as it's probably bollox it's academic anyway.
Daggers Posted 13 December 2008 Author Posted 13 December 2008 What has actually been said? RL reported that a rumour was circulating that WBA had tabled a bid, had it rejected and had submitted a new one worth £4million. At the end of Pearson's post-match interview the question was put to him whether he could shed any light on it and he intimated that he was unaware of it. RL then read out a pre-match quote from Mowbray where he said that they needed strikers, it was obvious that Fryatt would be linked with other clubs including them but that he felt the step-up to Premiership from L1 was a big ask. Anything else in this thread is nothing more than second-guessing.
foxaholic Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 I'm a big fan of Fryatt's but for that money I'd snap their hands off. We proved today that we can win without him scoring. But as it's probably bollox it's academic anyway. Lets face it if we got 4 million we should be able to get someone who could score at this level . I know Howa5rd cant but Hayles seems to score every time he goout on loan . Im not sure but I think if you count goals on loan this season he has more than Howard in a quarter of the games .
Mark Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 @ sell him. We're already getting money in for Mattock and I doubt much of that is going to go on improving the squad. Plus DJ Campell and Steve Howard's transfer fee's come upto around £4 million and we're getting no goals from them, both cost more than Matty so it's easy to say get a better striker in.
Chromophobia Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 if we'd get £4million for him and be able to spend that on about 2/3 new players, then i'd say do it, but y'know we won't see that, so I'd say no. surely milan knows how important his goals are in our chance for promotion and how much more money he'd lose if we failed to go up.
Father Ted Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Take the 4 mil. Imagine who we could sign for that? We could easily sign a replacement for Fryatt with that.
Finnegan Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Take the 4 mil. Imagine who we could sign for that? We could easily sign a replacement for Fryatt with that. But January is panic buy season. If they still wanted to offer £4m in the summer I'd bite their fucking hands off. I wouldn't give him up at the moment though without knowing we had a replacement incoming. You can be the biggest Fryatt hater in the world, but you'd have to be a complete and total tool to let him go in his current form (and with our lack of other options) without us knowing we had a decent replacement incoming. I'm pretty sure you could bag a certain Zambian born Welshman for that sort of dollar, though.
Webbo Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Take the 4 mil. Imagine who we could sign for that? We could easily sign a replacement for Fryatt with that. If we could sign someone better for less why wouldn't WBA sign him instead? We'd miss Fryatt no doubt about it, but 4 million is a lot of money for someone who would probably leave for less than 500k six months later and I think we can still get promotion without him.
davieG Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 I would say the odds on Fryatt repeating his goal scoring feat in the 2nd half of the season is pretty remote, it rarely happens, he will be tighter marked, I'd be surprised if he got any more than 10. So you're not looking at a loss of 20+ goals. That said I'd still keep him if money is not a problem which it shouldn't be compared to the gains in getting promoted.
maddog Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 4M This is some sort of joke. If he goes it will be for 2M very very maximum. We could sign 8 quality players for this division for 500k each for that money. If this is true, deal noel. We could sign Mclean and Lambert for that and still have a bit left over.
Brainy Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 We could sign Mclean and Lambert for that and still have a bit left over. Would we be getting Lambert for free then?
maddog Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Mclean aint 4m is he? Surely not I was thinking £1.5m each.
Asha Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 We could sign Mclean and Lambert for that and still have a bit left over. Yeah but we won't though will we? We'll sign some shit 36 year old championship striker who will never score again.
Brainy Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Mclean aint 4m is he? Surely not I was thinking £1.5m each. As far as I know Peterborough rate McLean at around 5m. Lambert probably no less than 1m. Yeah but we won't though will we?We'll sign some shit 36 year old championship striker who will never score again. We could just use Barry Hayles.
Rich Fox Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 We should keep Matty if we can and I think he would be daftto leave because he would probably be np better off next season but if they sold him to Birmingham could we have Gay Mc sheffery as he would do well for us i think.
Finn Claw Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 £4m is silly money, even as someone who rates Fryatt I'd snap WBAs hands off. As a bit of an optimist I'd also back DJ to score goals once he has had a bit of a run in the team. I remember Sunderland paying well over the odds for Connolley - this could actually happen.
