Are you glad we got relegated?

Recommended Posts

Slightly off topic but I don't understand why Premiership players should be any fitter than any other full time footballer. They all train for the same amount of time.

I'm not sure I fully understand it either but it seems to be the case. I suppose one element of being a Premiership footballer, as much as your better touch, skill level etc is fitness/physical condition. Plus the better conditions, training facilities and the rest of it.

We had been an absolute shit-storm of a club for seasons, while Kelly was fucking everything up I said how we needed to take the drop in order to clear the decks and build anew...and sod me wasn't I just right.

This has been a brilliant season - winning football, goals, great away days, it's everything we've not had for seasons. We got rid of a whole load of ignorant twats who felt the best way to motivate the team was to abuse them, even if some utter cunts still attach themselves to the club like shellfish.

It'll be brilliant to win the league as champions but it'll leave me hollow at the same time because I don't want more mid-table Championship football, I want more of what was great about this season.

Yeovil away on a Monday night - I was there. That means more to me than a string of Wembley appearances, sorry.

That's the kind of response I would have expected from you. You haven't let me down.

What your happy about this being the worst time in the club history ? I'm sorry but i never wish Leicester to go down that low. Just a good job we're on the way back up.

I'm not happy we got relegated either, but you could have constructed your argument a lot better, mate.

Yes. And isn't that a sad indictment of football the way it is now? We have the natural inclination in us, as football fans, to want to the club to climb as high as it possibly can. But at the expense of what? "Real" football experiences seem to be lost the further you climb up the proverbial ladder.....

Yes and No.

Yes, because we've actually played some football this season, gone into matches with the sole purpose of trying to win the game, rather than not lose it, especially away from home. It's also been nice to see some new teams and grounds, and I think we'll go back up a better club for this experience.

No, because we lost our place in that group of nine never to have played at this level (not massive I know, but something we were proud of and worked hard to maintain for 123 years), and relegation is never a good feeling.

With hindsight yes, but if we were 14th now, the answer would be very different.

True but alot of people annoy me with the WE'RE TOP and WINNING GAMES rubbish. We're in league 1 the lowest league we're ever played in. I expected us to go up and to be honest, i'm not proud of it and will not hope to remember it. Get out the league and pretend it never happened is my idea. We should never be playing in the 3rd tier.

Still too early to tell.

If we're challenging for a Championship playoff spot this time next year, then perhaps so.

I've enjoyed visiting new grounds (and pubs) this season, but the quality of the football hasn't been too thrilling.

Let's just say I've no wish to repeat the experience in this lifetime.

Perfect perspective. This shouldn't be where we are. If it proves the start of a new era and sees us challenging more effectively in the Championship, I'll be glad. If we struggle again the next couple of years it'll not have made the slightest bit of difference.

But has been a laugh all the same.

:P

But your presuming we would be somehow challenging for a playoff place had we stayed in the Championship after only 1 more season there :dunno:

A bold prediction with the quality of teams in that league now and the prospect of 3 of, Portsmouth, Stoke, West Brom, Hull, Tottenham, Bolton, Middlesbrough etc in there in that imaginary play off challenge :P

It will be tough when we are back there next season, but i think we are 7 or so signings away, and obviously keeping our current decent players and NP, from mounting a serious playoff challenge next season.

The dream would be automatic promotion, but thats just a dream, we would pretty much have to do a 'Hull' like they did at the start of this season in the Prem, and sustain it.

Ive realised now how tough a top 2 place in the Championship is to get, and now relish the memories of when we got there before, and what a fantastic achievement it was.

We are heavily relying on loan signings currently too, it will be nice to sign 1 of those loanees if possible, although im not too keen on Martin. Gilbert or Hobbs would be nice. Although Hobbs has a new contract dont he :dunno:

We may need even more signings if we lose the loanees, but i trust in Pearson and in his signings.

Its going to be very tough, but we have a decent young squad now, players like Kisnorbo, Tunch, Clemence all to come back, prospects of Weso getting his fitness at Dundee and coming back, Adams, and even Dj.

I for one am already extremely looking forward to what next season brings already :D

Definitely. It's done us good. We've been far better organised this season, have at least tried to play some balanced football, we've scored plenty of goals, we've brought some reasonable signings to the club instead of the bizarre comings and goings of last season and at last we seem to have at least some sort of foothold to push forward from.

No, I'd like to think Pearson would have been able to turn things around a division higher as he's done in this poxy league. The experience so far hasn't been too bad but I miss seeing us in the press, I miss proper local derbies and it's a total ballache having to wait at least half an hour on the Championship to see our goals on a Sunday. Even if we walk this league by 20 points, break half a dozen records in the process and pass one of Derby or Forest on the way up, it will never be worth it.

Not to mention we keep getting described as "League One outfit Leicester City" >_<

Negatives : We lost our proud record of never being outside the top 2 divisions.

Positives : It's been a massive wake up call and i'm proud at the way we've responded. "Big" clubs like Leeds and Forest have proved its not

an easy division to get out of.

We have a fanatastic up and coming manager in Nigel Pearson.

Our team/squad is made up of a lot of younger players, not just ageing mercenaries. Hopefully some of the loan signings could

be signed permanently.

I strongly believe, if we go up we will take momentum into the new season and push for a place in the Prem.

There's a real positive vibe about the place which has been sadly lacking for a very long time.

I was totally gutted when we went down but it (so far) has gone far better than i dared hope up to press...

you've summed up exactly my thoughts

I haven't been on this forum long enough to understand this guy! Does he post this shite just to get a reaction...? :dunno:
That's one theory, The other one is that he really is a c**t.

I don't know if it has escaped your notice, but I haven't proffered an opinion either way.

By the way, it's "you're" as in "you are" not "your" the possessive form of the word "you".

I'm not glad but it was needed and it has been more enjoyable - People who say "Ah we're only beating League One teams, we should be winning every game and I ain't gonna be shouting it from the rooftops we're at the top of the league" - They need to get their heads out their arses and realise where we are and why, we're not the big club/team we once were.

As said i'm not glad we went down, but it was needed, we have a decent manager from what we have seen last season (Especially on signings) - and his 'real' challenge starts next season provided we get up this season, next season he proves he's a decent manager, we have hopefully got a team that will be with us for some time and we have gone somewhere towards rebuilding hopefully - Something that was much needed.

Relegation was a blessing in disguise really, we took a few steps back to push on and take even more steps forward - We hope.

I must admit though I do fear next season for some reason - I think its the fact and worry that we were a Yoyo club between Premiership/Championship (Too good for Championship, Not quite good enough for the Premiership), The fear is we will be a Yoyo club between Championship/League One.

Agree with everything you've put except the bit in bold..i may have delusions of grandeur  but i do believe we are a premership club in everything bar the league were in and the players (largely championship standards players) basically we are a team who is way underpeforming. I think we are a mid to bottom premership team

Yes because this season we have built a good foundation which we didn't have at the club for several years, don't get me wrong I would've loved to be in the Championship this season but who knows we may have been struggling again this year and got relegated!

Yes i said towards the end of last season it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, obviously i was gutted when it happened. though. But would we have gained promotion to the premiership or been around the play-offs? I dont think so, we would of been the same old under achieving bottom half of the championship side that we have been over recent season's. Going down has let us bring in a manager who is given time, which has brought us some much needed stability. And given the fans a chance to get behind the team again. i think we will be a very strong force in the championship next season.

I wasn't at the time but how refreshing this season has been;

Seeing the team win

Watching good football

Being a big fish in a smaller pond

Seeing young players given more of an opportunity than the over the hill/ last big pay cheque brigade (Dickov excepted)

Having a manager who is respected, who isn't a media whore , who can spot a player and generally knows his arse from his elbow

Having a good team spirit

Having a "purer " football experience than in a higher division . Don't get me wrong , I'd love to see us be competitive in the Premiership but I wouldn't swap this season for a relegation season in the top flight. It goes without saying that being beaten week in week out is no fun. Commercialism is killing football at the top level with the Premiership becoming as predictable as the SPL. This level seems a bit more like real football for real fans.

I felt sick as a dog when we went down but even though a win over the likes of Yeovil doesn't quite generate the same feeling as when taking a bigger scalp, overall I'm loving it

It's just nice to be able to go to games and enjoy them instead of just getting depressed and having some mindless ****wit screaming in my ear. Oh hang on, there's still a bit of that.

I'm not bothered about the never having been outside the top two divisions because it's not that impressive, is it? If we'd never been outside the top division it would be a bit more significant, but to me it's about as important as never having had a player called Geoff or never having had a dog run onto the pitch.

I'd take a League One promotion challenge over a Championship relegation battle any day. People don't mind struggling in the Premier League because it's widely acknowledged that it's actually quite difficult there, and there's the added bonus of seeing all those glamorous highly paid superstars to remind us just how pathetically unimportant we are as individuals, which doesn't really happen with Barnsley and Plymouth Argyle
