Huuuuuume Posted 4 March 2009 Posted 4 March 2009 The Tykes are not doing so good at the moment, 2 points from the drop zone. If they were to meet the same fate as us last year, reckon it'll be worth a stab to get him back on board?
Finnegan Posted 4 March 2009 Posted 4 March 2009 No. He'd have been good in this league, I reckon. Doesn't cut it as a Championship striker - he can't finish for toffee.

Yes definately, asuming he could ever play again! always our top scorer, always committed, good winger IMO & fav player whilst at the club. I have it that he never wanted to leave, & was told that we needed the money that is why he left! I would personally never go back for a former player. What if heskey wanted to come back in a few years?
Guest Posted 4 March 2009 Posted 4 March 2009 Generally I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't be looking backwards to re-sign players. It's a baseless opinion really but there you go. But Hume, yes i would welcome him back. The other I wouldn't have minded re-signing was Joey G the other season, but we couldn't scrape together the money (or so the story went)
Uncle Monty Posted 4 March 2009 Posted 4 March 2009 I really liked Hume and was considering this just the other day and it got me thinking. He was a good player as was Stearman and McAuley but we weren't winning and our whole attitude stunk, perhaps if we got them (him) back we MIGHT acquire the attitude we worked so hard to get rid of.
Flynny Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 No.He'd have been good in this league, I reckon. Doesn't cut it as a Championship striker - he can't finish for toffee. He got pretty good hauls in two shit seasons, that's pretty harsh. Was it 10 last season, despite Holloway using him mostly on the right until he realised he was doing it wrong right at the end of the season? I agree he'd have been great in this league though, could honestly see him having scored more than Fryatt.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 Wouldn't say no, not fussed either way. He's virtually a younger, fitter Paul Dickov, you know what you'll get from him.
Tommeh Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 Would always welcome him back here. For a good 2 and a half seasons he was our best player and even amongst so much shite and deadwood managed to perform consistantly week in week out. to quote the hero's in blue and white song "Iain Hume could not try harder"
Bryn Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 Yeah I'd take Hume back, he never wanted to go did he not? Works hard, was capable in a poor team.
Molson Canadian Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 BRING HIM BACK!!!! HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMEEEEEE
DB11 Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 I would personally never go back for a former player. ALA Dickov
Koke Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 For the best part of 2 and a half years he was the best player at our club. Obviously that doesn't say much considering the state we were in, but despite being shifted all over the place and played out of position he still managed to get a respectable tally of goals. Given the choice between him and Fryatt, I wouldn't even hesitate. Hume everyday. He's 10x the player Fryatt is and he would've scored more than Fryatt now I believe.
Kilworthfox Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 Why don't we just put a bid in for a headless chicken? I rekon you could do a job? I will; call Milan now, how much do you want a week? A Steve Howard wedge or a Matty Fryatt Hamper?
Jimmy Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 his attitude at the back end of last season when he was moved to the wing stank, I haven't liked him since, he can rot with Barnsley, Mr "I'm too good for League 1" can enjoy it next season
Ultra Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 If he ever gets fit again, Hume > Fryatt. But I don't think Barnsley will go down, so we won't have the chance to buy him back even if Pearson wanted to.
Lovejoy Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 Nah, there's better players out there. And I'd rather have as lttle of the relegation squad as possible.

I'd take Fryatt, with confidence, he's far better in and around the box than Hume.
Lovejoy Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 I'd take Fryatt, with confidence, he's far better in and around the box than Hume. I'm a miserable twat, so would sell Fryatt in the summer and sign someone else to berate for a season.
blueblood Posted 5 March 2009 Posted 5 March 2009 My first post; Correct, it isn't a good idea to go back for a former player, very rarely in the history of football has it worked out, because usually, a guy does wellat a club, attempts tomove onto bigger and better and things, and for whatever reason, goes back to his original club. The fans have skyhigh expectations of him and expect him to be the saviour andproduce man of the match performances on a regular, and it just doesn't happen. However Hume is an exception. Hollyway, the rambling idiot, along with the other 764 managers we had last season, never played him in his proper position, not consistently anyway. Yet he was still our best player for about 2 season, and even when he didn't play well, you knew he gave 110%. Plus he genuienly loved the club, and he didn't want to leave, we had to make cuts, and recoup some money. When Rob Kelly was manager, most people thought we were doomed. However, Craig Levein, the king of crap signings, did 2 wonderful things before he got sacked; he signed Fryatt and Hume. Together, their double act kept us up, and we finished the league in promotion form- 8 wins out of 13 I think. Now IF we were to re-sign him this is what I would do; ever since Muzzy Izzet, (maybe Joey G aside) we have sorely missed a midfielder who can 'unlock' a defence, see a defence splitting pass, score 5 or so 25 yarders a season, produce a moment of brilliance to turn a game on its' head etc. We had one player, albeit for 10 games this season, who could do those things and he's been our best player by a country mile (Tunchev the exception). His name is Mark Davies. Now he's gone, so no point dwelling. I would re-sign hume, and play him in the hole just between midfield and the front two in a diamondf formation, or as the more attacking midfielder in a central midfield of 2. I think the guy would be a revelation there- he can shoot (he scored some CRACKERS for us), he can pass (yeah he could improve it, but at least he's not in the same league of passing as Kerrea Gilbert), his touch is fantastic, he's got great pace, his energy/stamina levels are superb, he's got skill, he can dribble, he's got flair, makes good runs, he'd track back if and when needed and as we all know, the man is a terrific headerer of a football, which is a bonus. I see other teams in the championship/lower reaches of the prem with their 'spark/flair' players, and I don't think any of them are as good, or would be effective as Hume, IF he was played in that position. What y'all think...?
