BlabyFox Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Can't believe someones not already posted this. Gradel was immense today. Dyers having a blip but has been good for us this season. So, who will start against Tranmere. I'd personally love to see Gradel keep his place, he and Cleverly completed bossed the midfield today.
Bert Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 You can't drop Max after today. He should start, but I expect Lloyd to feature on Wednesday.
MPH Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 says it all really that Porter isnt even involved in the vote - just means Thracian will have to vote for someone else
BlabyFox Posted 7 March 2009 Author Posted 7 March 2009 says it all really that Porter isnt even involved in the vote - just means Thracian will have to vote for someone else I thought about adding 'Other' but who else would you pick? Porter?
JoeyB Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 You can't drop Max after today. He should start, but I expect Lloyd to feature on Wednesday. Uhuh. I agree. Judging my people's post on here, i think today was mainly to keep him happy........
Father Ted Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Gradel any day of the week but I think that now Dyer has had his 'rest' he may be put back into the team...
Jimmy Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Gradel for the next few at least, with Dyer playing 15-25 mins from the bench
The Reverend Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Gradel was really good today, better in the first half i'd say, fizzed a few excellent balls across the box which should have been put away. Second half he was a bit quieter. But today Gradel did something over and over again that Dyer hasnt done for ages - took a man on and beat him.
Joe. Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Gradel, no question. However, his performance today shouldn't be bigged up too much considering the opposition, and the fact that Cheltenham don't actually have a proper right back in their team.
Jimmy Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Gradel, no question. However, his performance today shouldn't be bigged up too much considering the opposition, and the fact that Cheltenham don't actually have a proper right back in their team. true but as the old saying goes "you can only beat what's in front of you" he was positive the whole game and constantly went at the full back, he and Cleverley on the other wing were the tonic our recent form needed, regardless of the opposition
Fox92 Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Gradel was not immense today, he played well and better than Dyer has been over the past few weeks. But, why do we have to have these debates? They are both part of a squad.
davieG Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 I think Pearson will have Dyer and Berner back instead of Cleverly and Gradel. Oakley - Berner - King - Dyer For a tough away game.
J.Lisemore Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Gradel was brilliant today, it would be stupid to drop him.
Finnegan Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 I hate to say it but, "what Shingler said." I don't think either is astronomically better than the other but Gradel is on form and Dyer needs a rest.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 You can't change a team that has just won 4-0, can you?
RowlattsFox Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Gradel, but lets not get carried away with Gradels performance today, he was good but nothing more than that. Very suprised if Dyer comes back in so soon. The more interesting selection problem is whether Berner comes in to midfield, Tranmere are decent so will todays midfield cope under more pressure? But if Pearson does feel we need Berner, then who does he replace?
eraserhead66 Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 On current form, Gradel! No contest! Players in form should be the only ones picked & until Gradel has a blip/injury/suspension the position should rightly be his!
leftsideoverhere Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Gradel was very good today - beat players when Cheltenham played him close, and was fast and mazey when they let him run at them. He also tackled, and showed repeatedly that he wanted the ball. Got into good positions a couple of times when other players could have put him in clear on goal but chose to shoot instead. I know it was only Cheltenham, but today's performance should have earned him that spot on the team sheet until such times as Dyer demonstrates in training or in substitute appearances that he has earned it back.
brookfox Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Yeah Gradel looked good today (not brilliant, not MOTM, not amazing as I've seen his performance described) but who didn't. Cheltenahm gave us loads of space that the kind of players we had in midfield will always exploit. I know Dyer has been off form but he looks to be a bit of a marked man to me. Whenever he gets the ball he gets 2 on him loads of the time, unlike today when it looked like Birch had leant his freedom of the city to our players. I would play Max in the next game but will be happier when I've seen him do it consistently and against better opposition.
Munzie Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 When they are both firing on all cylinders, Dyer offers a hell of a lot more than Gradel. I think it's right that Dyer is getting some bench time and still find it hard to believe that Gradel didn't get a start on Tuesday after his confidence boosting run-out at McDons. That said, one free kick doesn't warrant a starting place. I think a brief spell on the side-lines is exactly what Dyer needs. With Max putting in some good performances (as opposed to 'immense' as some have claimed), this can only serve to reignite some of the spark in Lloyd.
Daggers Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 When they are both firing on all cylinders, Dyer offers a hell of a lot more than Gradel. Max has hit one good dead ball and had a reasonable run out against the worst team in Division III - it's far too early to be getting the wives of Leicestershire lubed-up and waiting. Dyer has contributed far more this season than Gradel and I'm hoping the match off has given him the rest he needs to finish the season as he started it.
Thracian Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Whoever has the greater talent, and we all have our views, I'd still start with Dyer at Tranmere. Gradel's had a full 90 minutes today after spending ages on the sidelines. He never stopped working and he'll be feeling that come Monday morning. Tranmere is no place to go if you're a bit tired and aching. Were it me I'd start Max on the bench for this one with the aim of using him for the last half-hour or so. Dyer's not suddenly become a bad player nor Gradel an experienced world beater. This is the point about having a squad. You don't have to start with tired players if you have proper faith in everyone. Come Monday I'd be congratulating Gradel on his performance, impressing on him that he needs to consider it as just his basic performance now simply the foundation stone from which he needs to improve still further. I'd show him some video clips and emphasise what he needs to improve still further. In other words I'd take time to keep his feet on the floor and refocus his mind on development and improvement. But I'd not want him idle on Wednesday. That's the last thing he needs. I'd want him to play a part but would likely want his next start to be against Colchester. It's physically tough for young attackers. They need to be at their fittest and sharpest to do themselves justice. They also need to be fired up and I'm quite sure that, after playing well today, beinon the bench will do that. Half an hour will be enough Wednesday. And probably Saturday too. I'd also want Porter on the bench on Wednesday.
