Stevosevic Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Who would you vote for? I have left Tunchev as he has only played half a season, but he would have been my pick had he not got injured. Also, i thought it would only be out of those 5 mentioned. I vote Howard
Guest Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Super Steve After taking some serious flack off City fans at the start of the season he's been a fooking rock for this team. Chipped in with a fairly good haul of goals himself, and loads of assists too. Legend
C-man Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 I went for King, but Steve will deserve it if he wins it.
BlabyFox Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Would have been Dyer if he hadn't had that terrible run of form earlier on in the season.
Simi Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Howard and King have both played important parts in our season and would not be shock winners for the prize. King has certainly been the most consistent but Howard has added a lot to his game this year and without him we simply would not be in the posisiton we find ourselves in, not just because of his goals but the way he brings Fryatt into the game as well. Most Improved Player would probably have to be Jack Hobbs. He had a shaky spell at right back but at centre half he has done nothing but get better and I really hope we have him and Tunchev pairing together next season.
Daggers Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Wow, for the first time in a long time I actually a) care about the subject and b) have more than one person in my mind who could win. I think you have to go for the player who has been most pivotal in our season and who was most missed when he was unavailable: Super Steve. Quite simply, without him we'd have been mid-table.
David Guiza Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Would have been Dyer if he hadn't had that terrible run of form earlier on in the season. I went for King . Considering this is really his first full season he has been emence played almost every game aswell consistantley nothing special apart from the odd belter . I think playing in League1 this season has helped benefit him and Hobbs greatley for next season .
Corky Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Steve. Fryatt may have 29 goals, 14 more than Howard, but we need Stevie more than Matty. Though if he hadn't had a off-form run for a while, Dyer would be in with a shout. So nice to see a winger actually take on players and get the ball in the box. Healthy amount of goals too.
JakeShingler Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 I voted Fryatt. No ones in our team is capable of scoring that many goals.
Bert Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 It could be anyone of about 10 really. The two realistic chances, would be with King and Howard. With Oakley, Fryatt, Dyer, Hobbs having reasonable argument too. I'm sure if he'd not have been out for the latter half of the season, Tunch may well have won it.
lcfc_jme Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Tunch, Hobbs, King, Fryatt and Howard have been brilliant this season. Had the discussion in the pub yesterday and decided it was Howard's for the taking. Goals, assists and general work-rate and effort. Nobody has matched him this season for me. Instrumental in well over half of Fryatt's goals. Instrumental to our promotion.
Munzie Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Super Steve gets my vote too. Our tactics this season have been built around him being a solid target man and his ability to draw out defenders in order to create space for Fryatt, Dyer etc. During his recent suspension, it confirmed just how important his presence has been for us. It also goes to show the resilience of the man. This time last year, he was being booed off the pitch. To stick with us during our relegation and to come out fighting takes a lot of character and determination. His winning header yesterday was straight from a Hollywood script. From the brink of being hated by the fans to hero status over the course of a season. A lot of the doubters just didn't get him when he arrived. "He's a striker, he's supposed to score goals". Being a striker is not just about finding the back of the net. That's why he has ten other team-mates. He has gone about his duties confidently and consistently. Well done Steve Howard. You deserve it!
Legend_in_blue Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Hobbs for me. Father Ted will back me up with that one!
Raj Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 The youngsters have shone this season. Maxi given his personal problems has been overall brilliant. The loanees have done great. Our wobble started when Tunch was injured-He is immense and we need him back asap I really like the lad King. He has a great future. Fryatts goals were just what he needed after CChip season, just hope he bangs in a few more to get him going again. BUT i must admit my berating at Howard was just a ploy to egg him on(As i know he reads my posts diligantly, hence i take all the credit for his success this season!) As we've seen without him we have no options upfront,so gotta be Fatty Howard closely followed by young King.
Halfsy Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Would have been Dyer if he hadn't had that terrible run of form earlier on in the season. Obviously. Howard has been consistently our best player since the first game of the season. He has been crucial to our style of play.
Thracian Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Makes a change to be deciding the best of a good bunch instead of which one's been least pitiful. How hard is it too to judge the value of inevitable headline grabbers like the strikers Howard and Fryatt, against the engine room players like King, skipper Oakley and finally our sometimes understated defenders. Fryatt is close to 30 goals for the season and the League goals among them have been vital. Howard's scoring rate has picked up too but he's been absolutely pivotal to our attack and to Fryatt's success. Defensively Hobbs has been a rock and we've conceded at less than a goal a game. But for me the final decision has ended up as a two-horse race and, in the end, I've gone for Andy King fractionally ahead of Steve Howard. For King to complete his first full season as an ever present in the heart of a likely title-winning midfield - but for one absence due to an international call-up - has been staggering in itself. There has always been competition for his place but Pearson has seen him as immovable even to the point of playing Oakley out wide on occasions and with good reason because the lad has been immense not only as our midfield fulcrum but also for sometimes vital contribuitions both in defence and attack. Eleven goals from midfield - a couple of them them contestants for goal of the season - together with his share of assists have only added cream to what has basically been an outstanding example of a team footballer in action. Kingy's quick, simple passing has never been one-sided. He's brought all our attackers into the game and, unlike the likes of Tiatto in the past, he's never even been close to being sent off, with even the two bookings he's collected being questionable and the one at hereford totally unjustified I still don't understand why we hardly used him last season but the contrast to the two campaigns couldn't have been greater (promotion beats relegation any day) and to perhaps complete the League season with so few defeats on the record pays him a mighty compliment for a lad in such an important role. There's no doubt Howard has looked a better player this season with Kingy in the team than without and it's no coincidence to me that - in a generally lean spell for the club - the only other major achievement has been winning the Academy play-off final. And Kingy was vital to that as was Max Gradel. Kingy rarely elaborates. First and foremost he's about consistent reliability, support for all and simplicity, the sort of qualiies that so endeared Neil Lennon to the City faithful. But when it's needed there are moments of magic too - a brilliant shot here or a deft pass there. All that swung the balance in my decision was that, while I expected what we got from Howard considering all the vast experience he's had and the additional help of proper wingers and a team properly balanced to attack, I never quite imagined the impact Kingy would make. I just hope he'll stay humble enough and demanding enough of himself to keep learning and improving. Happily, from what I know of his so-supportive but feet-on-the-ground family, I've absolutely no doubt that he will.
Koke Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 I'll have to agree with Thracian. It's between Howard and King for me, and King slightly edges it. For a rookie making his full season debut, he has been excellent. Sometimes been guilty of drifting in and out of games, but for a young rookie that is to be expected. On the whole he has been excellent and has scored a good amount of goals from midfield (11), some spectacular ones in there as well. King is disciplined and reads the game brilliantly. The proof for that is he has only received two yellow cards in sixty odd games in his Leicester career. One was on Saturday for apparently diving (which isn't King's character to do so) and the the other was for arguing I believe. King is our most successful product from the Academy winning side and if he stays humble and down to earth, he can improve ten fold and we'll have one hell of a player on our hands. Come the end of the season he will have played 45 out of 46 league games. And the only one he missed is Peterborough due to Internationals. That is some achievement.
gerrytaggart Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 can't overlook fryatt, this is about the whole season and although he's be nowhere near for the last 4 months its his goals that have got us to the brink.....but for me its got to be super steve.
maddog Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 King has been the most consistent performer out of those, i say him. With Howard, Dyer, Hobbs, and Fryatt joint second.
The Doctor Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Howard. Has been grossly under-rated by fans this season ( mainly the first half of the season tho). without him we wouldn't be where we are in the table. The performances when he was missing (brighton, colchester, peterboro) were dire and looked more like a mid-table side than title favourites. King does come close but howard gets it because he didn't give up when the fans were on his back but instead fought back and proved his worth to the team.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 I'll wait until the season's actually finished thank you very much. I mean, what if Clemence comes back and scores 20 goals!?
