StanSP Posted 1 January 2010 Posted 1 January 2010 I am honoured to be able to announce that Oliver & Paul Collyer, founders of Sports Interactive, originators of the ideas that have become Football Manager and Football Manager Live, and all round good blokes, have been awarded M.B.E.'s in the New Year Honours List for their services to the UK games industry. We are delighted to see this award being given to our friends and colleagues, who both thoroughly deserve it. Without Ov & Paul, and the ideas they had when still at school in their home county of Shropshire, there would be no modern day Football Manager, no Football Manager Handheld, no Football Manager Live, and no SI or SI community, so we all owe a big debt to them, and it's nice to see the UK hierarchy recognise that. Below is a statement from Oliver & Paul. "We are really proud to have been given this honour, which is something we never thought would happen to us. We first started working on the ideas that have become the Football Manager series over 20 years ago because we wanted to make football management games that we wanted to play. That the games have been so successful was never part of the master plan, and we have to thank everyone on the team at Sports Interactive for all their work over the last 2 decades, as well as our teams of researchers, testers, moderators, SEGA and our other publishing partners, and our community for everything they've done, as we certainly wouldn't be able to be accepting this honour without all of their hard work. We're still heavily involved in the games, with Paul heading up the match engine, and Ov heading up Football Manager Live, and we look forward to many more years making games with the rest of the team that so many people out there enjoy to play. We feel really lucky to be receiving this honour because we've been lucky enough to spend our lives doing something we enjoy, and indulging one's passion is easy - therefore we dedicate the awards to everyone who has helped us along the way - thank you to all of you." Fully deserved.
Fox92 Posted 2 January 2010 Posted 2 January 2010 Got a play off spot, with one game left, although me/Stoke/Wigan/Sheffield United/QPR can all win the league. Thats how tight it is. Got Portsmouth away as well - gunna' be tough, but if I win, about 7-0 I think I might nick 2nd place ... Not that tough then!
CosbehFox Posted 2 January 2010 Posted 2 January 2010 2nd season with Burton and playing a steam train if the first choice XI is fit and ready. Went right up to 3rd but then back down to 8th. Very pleased as I only got a couple of intended targets and the two stab in the dark signings have proved marvellous.
Fox92 Posted 3 January 2010 Posted 3 January 2010 Finished 3rd in the Championship in my 3rd season. Played Bristol City in the play offs. First Leg: Bristol City 2-2 Leicester Second Leg: Leicester 0-3 Bristol City I am in the Championship again!

General Smuts Posted 7 January 2010 Posted 7 January 2010 85th minute equaliser by Derby at the Walkers. Sickening.
Fox92 Posted 7 January 2010 Posted 7 January 2010 Got to the fourth round of the Coca Cola Cup and got Spurs at home. This was bad because I have been rubbish at home this season and I didn't draw a team who I could beat like Palace or Peterborough So, I played Spurs having beat Cardiff 3-2 in the league the week before. I went with my strongest side and so did Spurs. Played the game and they scored first via an open goal: Pavelychenko. I instantly scored with Gallagher grabbing the goal. The game finished 1-1 and I went into extra time and my players became tired. I continued with 4 up front as I couldn't bring any one else on having used up all my subs and because I wanted to take the game to Spurs. I scored in the 109th minute via Brandy to make it 2-1 to Leicester before Spurs scored just minutes after to make it 2-2. The game was in the 118th minute and I was settling for pens before Andy King had to go off injured, and both teams were now playing with 10 men as one of their players got sent off. Then, within seconds of the whistle, Keane and Crouch combined to set up Pavelychenko and the number 9 made it 2-3 Tottenham. And then; I was out of the Coca-Cola Cup Thats my Coca-Cola match report of Leicester City v Tottenham Hotspur
Fox92 Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 Ahhh, play offs last year. This year, rubbish. Players under performing, moaning and I can't win, ohhh, and I am going to get sacked.
Fox92 Posted 8 January 2010 Posted 8 January 2010 SACKED! 12th in the League, 4th round off the Coca-Cola Cup. So, I finish fourth last season after being relegation favourites, this season players underperforming, to many draws and hardly any goals and I've gone
Floating Fox Posted 9 January 2010 Posted 9 January 2010 Anyone reccomend some decent strikers for under 1.5mil...? And dont say Eugene Dadi !
Guest Mee-9 Posted 9 January 2010 Posted 9 January 2010 Anyone reccomend some decent strikers for under 1.5mil...?And dont say Eugene Dadi ! Jay Bothroyd :D:D:D
Ozwin Posted 9 January 2010 Posted 9 January 2010 Someone link me to a formation that doesn't use wingers and works in the championship. My usually amazing formation wont work because Leicesters wingers are shocking.
The Doctor Posted 9 January 2010 Posted 9 January 2010 Now top of the conference national at christmas. 2 points clear with 3 games in hand. took charge at southampton (back in championship) on FA cup 3rd round day. won the championship and promoted along side leeds and Leicester. Struggling to strength my squad though, had a deal set up to sign Lewandowski but he rejected my contract offer to join Leicester. Signed Nery Castillo and Rob Earnshaw though.
lildave3 Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 Started one with Stoke. I sacked Gerry Francis 90 minutes into playing it, and it's now not responding and won't come back up Haven't saved it since the first day. FUCK YOU GERRY FRANCIS. EDIT EDIT - YEEESSS it's back. EDIT EDIT EDIT - Gerry Francis, you're still a dick.
Samilktray Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 Think I may have to invest in this again, not sure why, mainly cus I've been bored as fuck this past week. Wheres the cheapest place to get it?
Brainy Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 Had a game back in '08 where I got York into League One after three seasons and won one of the non-league trophies. I didn't get '09 but i've got 2010 on PSP so now i've got a game going quite identical to my '08 game. Over the three years i've managed to sign players for little money like Jamie Slabber, Marvin Williams, Neill Collins, the Polish keeper from Soton and Lionel Ainsworth. Then freebies like Neal Trotman, Wade Elliott, Bradley Johnson and quality players who were already at the club like Michael Gash and Andy Ferrell. I won promotion in my first season via the play-offs. I went into the last game in 1st place, but was away to the 2nd placed team in the last fixture. They were two points behind me and beat me, meaning I finished the season in 3rd. Beat Luton on penalties in the semis and then Cambridge (finished 2nd) in the final. Next season was pretty quiet. Did poorly in all cup competitions but finished the league campaign comfortably in 13th place. Was happy with my squad for season 3 and thought with a bit of luck we might get a PO spot. I was in and around the play-offs all season and guaranteed myself 7th with a game to spare. I won 2-0 in both legs against Northampton and beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 in the final. Also won the Paint Pot trophy.. again beating Bristol Rovers at Wembley. Team for season four in League One looks like this Bartosz something, Josh Mimms Ben Purkiss, Rob Kozluk Kurt Robinson, James Meredith Neill Collins, Alan O'Hare Neal Trotman, Danny Parslow Wade Elliott, Lionel Ainsworth Craig Nelthorpe, Simon Russell Andy Ferrell, Alex Lawless Bradley Johnson, Michael Gash, Derek Asamoah Marvin Williams, Wanna get a CM and ST in on loan but there's nobody around.
CosbehFox Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 Sorry to break your fun but FM Handheld is easy. Left Burton halfway through my season when Wednesday offered me their job. Stayed up 17th, was placed 23rd. This season we've been excellent. Signings have all been free's (Hoolanan, Whittingham, Healy, McCann). Maierhofer was signed for 750k when the board sold Beevers for 3million. Signed Cleverley last season and despite, his average stats, he's been brill this season. We're 4th and beat Leicester 3-2 because they had done all their subs and had to play Fryatt in goalzz
Fox92 Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 So, I got sacked from Leicester and got some lovely offers - Chesterfield or Wycombe! Therefore, took the Wycombe job and they were 1 point clear of the relegation zone in League 2 with 10 games left. No money. In debt. I stayed up somehow, Cheltenham and Accrington were relegated. The next season, I released players who didn't want to play for me or players not prepared to take a wage cut, ignoring their ability. With no money, I signed Craig Gladwin from Rotherham (one of my best mates who I went to School with), Robbie Simpson and Craig King. Also loaned Ashley Chambers and Lee McArdle (Think that's how you spell it). Start of the second season then, and a local derby with Oxford to start the season off. Won 3-1. Then, beat Portsmouth in the coca-cola cup before claiming another win. At this point, I was top of the league. A shock 2-3 defeat against Chesterfield means that I know sit 5th with Port Vale coming to Adams Park next and a 2nd round coca-cola cup tie against West Ham! We are Wanderers!
Ozwin Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 I can't get into it this year, it's like every team works you out if you use the same tactic for 3 games in a row. I can't be arsed changing tactics every few games, just let me keep one and use it all season!
