Guppy Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 I can't get into it this year, it's like every team works you out if you use the same tactic for 3 games in a row. I can't be arsed changing tactics every few games, just let me keep one and use it all season! I've kept the same tactic, just tweaking when necessary for quite a few seasons, at 3 different clubs (City, Bolton and Accrington and a short spell with England) and it's been quite successful. Keeping the tactic quite basic seems to work the best for me at any level. 4-4-2 - counter with direct passing and a balanced philosophy, focussing passing through the middle and playing offside. Works a treat for me.

I can't be arsed changing tactics every few games, just let me keep one and use it all season! They do work it if there are glaring weaknesses to the formation e.g playing 3-5-2 will mean the opposition will learn they will get a lot of space of the flanks. Hence why most teams play 4-4-2 in real life.
Ozwin Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 I'm playing a basic 4-4-2 with width. I had a 4-5-1/4-3-3 that was awesome to start with but teams figured it out half a season in. Really annoying.
dave_the_fox Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 I usually play what the back room advise and i get on OK? 4-5-1 usually if there is no opinion from them!
Samilktray Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 Just been and got this again, first game will be with Preston.
Brainy Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Had a game back in '08 where I got York into League One after three seasons and won one of the non-league trophies.I didn't get '09 but i've got 2010 on PSP so now i've got a game going quite identical to my '08 game. Over the three years i've managed to sign players for little money like Jamie Slabber, Marvin Williams, Neill Collins, the Polish keeper from Soton and Lionel Ainsworth. Then freebies like Neal Trotman, Wade Elliott, Bradley Johnson and quality players who were already at the club like Michael Gash and Andy Ferrell. I won promotion in my first season via the play-offs. I went into the last game in 1st place, but was away to the 2nd placed team in the last fixture. They were two points behind me and beat me, meaning I finished the season in 3rd. Beat Luton on penalties in the semis and then Cambridge (finished 2nd) in the final. Next season was pretty quiet. Did poorly in all cup competitions but finished the league campaign comfortably in 13th place. Was happy with my squad for season 3 and thought with a bit of luck we might get a PO spot. I was in and around the play-offs all season and guaranteed myself 7th with a game to spare. I won 2-0 in both legs against Northampton and beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 in the final. Also won the Paint Pot trophy.. again beating Bristol Rovers at Wembley. Team for season four in League One looks like this Bartosz something, Josh Mimms Ben Purkiss, Rob Kozluk Kurt Robinson, James Meredith Neill Collins, Alan O'Hare Neal Trotman, Danny Parslow Wade Elliott, Lionel Ainsworth Craig Nelthorpe, Simon Russell Andy Ferrell, Alex Lawless Bradley Johnson, Michael Gash, Derek Asamoah Marvin Williams, Wanna get a CM and ST in on loan but there's nobody around. Sorry to break your fun but FM Handheld is easy. there's definitely something wrong... Got relegated and went straight back up via the play offs (3rd time in five seasons play off winners ) Team now consists of players like Luke Young, Shaun Wright Phillips and Joe Cole.. and Michael '115 goals in 5 seasons' Gash Bartosz Bialkowski Conrad Logan Ben Purkiss Luke Young Kurt Robinson Neill Collins Antoni Greco Fitz Hall Neal Trotman Lionel Ainsworth Shaun Wright Phillips Craig Nelthorpe David Bell Joe Cole Alex Lawless Andy Ferrell Cesare Greco Alex Dyer Marvin Williams Richie Cole Derek Asamoah Michael Gash Daniel Moreno
Samilktray Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Got about 800k to spend on a centre back, any tips? Dont mind loans either, also any decent strikers available on loan?
dandannieldanok Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Got about 800k to spend on a centre back, any tips?Dont mind loans either, also any decent strikers available on loan? Is Elliot Omozusi still a free agent?, if he is you can't really go wrong with him, and of course you get to keep your 800k.
Fox92 Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Got about 800k to spend on a centre back, any tips?Dont mind loans either, also any decent strikers available on loan? Mark Beevers did a job for me - at 500k though. And, I signed Fabien Brandy for free and he scored 30 - 40 goals per season. But, thats all in the past as I got sacked
ramboacdc Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 Someone link me to a formation that doesn't use wingers and works in the championship. My usually amazing formation wont work because Leicesters wingers are shocking. the one i used i got off the FM fan forums and it is called "complete domination/dominance" if i remember rightly but im using tuggs training aswell (EVERYONE MUST INVEST IN THIS!) first season as leicester used the players they had and signed marlon king for the first few matches (i know i know but hes a good striker and can help start a campaign off. soon after he goes on duty for jamaca and is unavailable until 2011 so just mutual consent him away) finished 13th with 59 points and had tunchev sold for 5m so bought a shitload of youth players. some came through for me and sold for 4m profits 5 months later and others stayed in my squad. second season shocked everyone by finishing second in the championship (would of been first but hit a bad run of form in the final third of the season but still got promoted. signed half the pompey players who jumped ship and it worked well. third season and i got given 18m to spend, blew it like an idiot but 9 games in and i have 9 points so im happy (beat man city 3-2 and drew with liverpool 1-1, it would of been a 1-0 win but torres got a 96th minute equaliser in the 4 minutes of added time, fergie time anyone?) might go back on now but i really should sleep and i just lost to hull 2-0 so im not happy. also now the walker is a 35,250 capacitiy stadium on my game. ive never understood how you would expand a bowl stadium by that little unless you just whack a horrible slab of seats ontop of a stand.
samlcfc Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 ive never understood how you would expand a bowl stadium by that little unless you just whack a horrible slab of seats ontop of a stand. Thats how its done. Ours is able to be expanded if we ever wanted to in the future
shen Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 also now the walker is a 35,250 capacitiy stadium on my game. ive never understood how you would expand a bowl stadium by that little unless you just whack a horrible slab of seats ontop of a stand. Playing Nac, they expanded the stadium by a whopping 186 seats at a cost of 325k... most pointless thing ever...
CosbehFox Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 At Wednesday, I am paying off some massive loan cos they are redeveloping the stadium for the World Cup yet the capacity isn't changing. Thankfully though we're 8th with a third of the season to go. I reckon next season I'll do it.
ramboacdc Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 Thats how its done. Ours is able to be expanded if we ever wanted to in the future that would look so naff!
lildave3 Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 that would look so naff! Yup, wouldn't want anything not matching would we!
Ozwin Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 I'd love the Walkers to expand a bit, it's too clean, I want some out of place looking stands with wooden benches. That's how it's done. And I finally got a game going on this, it took ages but I decided to pick Sport Recife (Brazilian team) because I had an awesome game with them years ago. It's going well, was given the target of avoiding relegation and I'm currently 5th. It's looking good.
ramboacdc Posted 16 January 2010 Posted 16 January 2010 Yup, wouldn't want anything not matching would we! ooook well im 18th in the prem with 10 games left to save my season(and possibly my job) got danny muphey in now too.
dave_the_fox Posted 16 January 2010 Posted 16 January 2010 Just done the treble with City, League - FA Cup - Champs League. Managed it in the 2015-16 season, Funnily enough, Lee Hoos bought Leicester off of Milan!
Fox92 Posted 16 January 2010 Posted 16 January 2010 Wycombe Wanderers. 6th in League 2. In the FA Cup 3rd Round. In the semi-final of the JPT. Lovely
Budweiser Posted 16 January 2010 Posted 16 January 2010 Messed up the Prem with 8 games to go with Notts Co. Finished 2nd Im still trying to leave but no top 4 jobs are actually worth taking right now. Basically, has anyone had any success at choosing there own feeder club? Everytime I try and link Brazilian or Argentinian teams with a good set-up, it just doesn't work. So if anyone has any recommendations, it would be much appreciated
The Doctor Posted 16 January 2010 Posted 16 January 2010 trying to re-install FM 09, installed fine but when ever i try to run it a window opens saying my trial period has ended and i need to register the game. Anyone now how to avoid this because it's set up on a computer with no internet at present and i don't plan on making a 5 minute phone call to get a couple of digits to let run a game i've already brought?
