Guest Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 I think it's time to devote a thread to Nigel. He has come in after a series of joke managers and without a lot of cash and without wasting money has made us into a respectable club once again. Fantastic player scouting and wise buys. Solid coaching and good tactics. I want to say thank you very much Nigel. Definitely the best manager wev'e had since MON and as much as I may be ridiculed I'd like to say you've started even better than him. A year unbeaten at home, promotion at the first shot as champions, 6th in the league now. I've supported since the Bloomfield days and I think NP could turn out to be the best manager we've had in that time.

He has been fantastic for us and proved a lot of doubters (including myself) very wrong indeed. A thoroughly professional manager who is doing a splendid job. Keep going lads, loving this season so far!
acooling08 Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 He is a very good manager no doubt. His signings have been good. The only thing I question about him is his substitutions which on occasion aren't good.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 Excellent manager. Enough said. Hasn't even made one bad signing.
StanSP Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 He is a very good manager no doubt. His signings have been good. Even though he brought on Waghorn and Adams which turned the game around against Swansea on first day of season? His subs aren't that bad. Great manager.
Daggers Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 Like him, think he knows his stuff with signings and appreciate that he is the best we've had since MON...but still not totally convinced. I think about our slump last season and his persistence with Dyer when he was screamingly bad. I look at how the team seems to fail in the second halves away from home this season and his liking to play people out of position when better alternatives exist...and wonder. A decent record, but he's not achieved anything of note aside from stabilising the club. (A monkey could have got us promoted last season we were so better than the rest).
Edmund Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 Definitely deserves the credit even if the the season has only just started. He is quickly building a strong reputation with Leicester and in my opinion is the best manager since MON. The most pleasing aspect of his reign so far is the stability he has brought to the club. Also good to have a manager last more than a few months. Just hope he gets the time because as we have seen in hindsight chopping and changing managers at the first sight of failure is just not the answer. I hope the moaning fans don't get on his back when we go through a bad spell which is inevitable to happen at some point. Wouldn't surprise me that if he carries on the good work he will start being linked with other vacant manager positions.
Matt Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 The pessimist in me is saying lets not get excited just yet, and i'm just waiting for something round the corner to go wrong, but that has just been bred into me as a Leicester fan after years of shit I think. But for the moment lets enjoy, and lets just hope Nigel Pearson carries it on, stays with us, and makes us the team we were under MON! I heard it some many times when we have had a new manager but I think Mr Pearson really has bought a new era to our club!
dogadug Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 He's what we've needed as a manager for ages Someone who makes excellent buys, and has great man management Hopefully this will continue
NorthernFox Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 I think he's bloody excellent. I beg to differ that a monkey would have got us promoted last year in so much that we were a club in freefall, morale at an alltime low, MM thinking about chucking it all in, but he came in like a breath of fresh air and restored sanity about the place. Okay, were not yet pulling up trees but we are still winning and if you can find me a city supporter who 16 months ago would not have taken 6th plce right now (in the championship), then i'll show my considerable arse in fenwicks window!!

jonthefox Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 i honestly believe he can establish us as a prem team. His knowledge of the transfer market reminds me of mon in a lot of ways, and he seems to get the best out of his players. a very worthy thread indeed... Arise sir nigel.
James. Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 (A monkey could have got us promoted last season we were so better than the rest). I don't think that's strictly true.
Salieri Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 The guy has been an absolute breath of fresh air after all of the dross we've had to endure in recent times. It's too early to make comparisons with him and MON, but up to press, he's hardly put a foot wrong. His signings in the main have been excellent. He's managed to get the best out of players, Fryatt for one has been totally rejuvenated under his management. Sometimes tactically he could be questioned, but lets not forget he is a relatively young manager and still learning his trade so he isn't going to get everything right. He's instilled discipline into the club, and has proved the good of the team is first and foremost even if it is to the detriment of certain individuals. I just hope MM is realistic in his expectations. You could argue that we have overachieved in a sense so far this season (albeit in its very early stages) and promotion is, and should be deemed as a longshot at the moment. He should be given plenty of time to build a side not only to gain promotion to the Premiership, but to be able to sustain a place there for many years to come. Keep up the good work Nige.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 If he can finish anywhere near the play-offs this season then he'll have done a similar job to O'Neill in terms of taking the club up a level and then establishing it there. He may not be absolutely flawless but it's a results business and his have been quite extraordinary in comparison to what could have been realistically expected from the average inexperienced manager coming into a club which was in a terrible state.
purpleronnie Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 You can't compare him with o'neill, o'neill took us out of this divison won league cups and finished inside the top 10 in the premiership, pearson took us out of the 3rd divison and has played 6 games in the championship.
Webbo Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 I would go as far as to say that if Pearson could get us promoted this season then he would have exceeded anything O'Neil acheived.

Dunno about that, very close though. I'd agree if we stayed up though. But would going up be good for us. Probably not, might need a bit longer here first.
