Babylon Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 I'm looking forward to seeing if Gradel can fulfill his potential, even if it is at another club. So many youth players i've seen show glimpses of sheer class and then never become as good as I think they will. He certainly needs a manager who has total and sometimes blind faith in him to get those moments of quality from him. I wish him well. Out of all the hyped up youth players of the last 10 years, he definitely has the best chance of making it. I don't think Pearson was trying to get a higher price when he said he liked Max and thought he could make it, I think he was being truthful. But he'll never stand in anyones way who isn't 100% behind the club.
suffolk fox Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 I believe this will one day come back to haunt us!? Gradel is a good player and simply was never given a proper chance by City to play, especially this season. I am concerned as to why Pearson seems to think he is surplus to requirements? I for one believe Gradel is as good as Nguessan and Lloyd Dyer. As Gradel has said himself on signing for Leeds, I wanted to play 1st team football this cannot be guaranteed at Leicester I didnt want to play in the reserves. Tis a shame, another good young prospect we have let slip through our fingers?
Babylon Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 was never given a proper chance by City to play He was given a chance last year and was outclassed by Dyer most of the time I am concerned as to why Pearson seems to think he is surplus to requirements? He didn't think he was, he said himself he wanted Max to stay and Gradel has said the same. He couldn't offer guaranteed first team football though. Not many managers will keep a player who wants to leave, especially not a reserve. Tis a shame, another good young prospect we have let slip through our fingers? Who are all the other superstars who have slipped through our fingers then?
Fox in a Box Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 He reminds me of Neil Lewis in many ways, great pace, comes to nothing. TA-RA
The Doctor Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 I for one believe Gradel is as good as Nguessan and Lloyd Dyer. Nah. As it's already been mentioned N'Guessan has everything Gradel has as well as aerial ability and the fact that he's a fairly big brute who doesn't get knocked off the ball as easily as gradel did. As for dyer he has pace and the ability to actually cross - both things that gradel never did possess. Besides we've got: Gallagher - better in virtually every way Solano - better crosses, more experience, 1st class trumpet playing skills & Oakley - Ermm, not sure what he has to offer, Experience i suppose. Who could all play where gradel does and (apart from oakley) are far better than gradel will ever be.
Koke Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 As Gradel has said himself on signing for Leeds, I wanted to play 1st team football this cannot be guaranteed at Leicester I didnt want to play in the reserves. N'Guessan, Dyer, Gallagher and Adams are not guaranteed first team football either, and they are just keeping their mouth shut and getting on with it. There's no way in a million years that Gradel is better than N'Guessan and Dyer. Dyer was a beast last season and outclassed Gradel for the most time. N'Guessan has everything in his locker that Gradel has + aerial abilities [and being inconsistent]. What exactly is Gradel gonna give us that we don't have already in our squad? It's a shame that he has to leave, and I wish him all the best, but I'm not shedding a tear over him.
maddog Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Glad he's gone we can forget him now and move on. He won't be getting in the starting line up at Leeds regularly anyway, and when their in the Championship next season he's got even less chance of getting in, they may make much better signings than him. He's probably doubled his wages at least though.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Thoguth we could have got more than the reported fee, but nevermind.
Babylon Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Fee is a bit shit. Who has said what the fee is?
lildave3 Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Who has said what the fee is? It's shit whatever it is. I wanted at least £13 million.
Babylon Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 It's shit whatever it is. I wanted at least £13 million. Plus a sell on clause of 99%.
lildave3 Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Plus a sell on clause of 99%. 96%, im not greedy.
Uncle Monty Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Does anyone one know roughly how much wonga we got for him?

Jon the Hat Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 not as nailed on as it was a few weeks ago - if they get distracted by the fa cup and charlton stop dicking about and get some consistency they could have to go via the play offs where they will of course lose to Huddersfield That would be so utterly beautiful that I might cry in wonder. And another thing. There is something quite satisfying about players leaving us for Leeds becuase they cannot get first team football here. It means we are better than Leeds, which is always something good to be reminded of.
Salieri Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Bit disappointed to see him leave, had high hopes for the lad. Ah well, life goes on, all the best Max.
Thracian Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 He was given a chance last year and was outclassed by Dyer most of the time No-one suggests any winger shouldn't do his share of chasing back but Gradel has never been used in the genuine attacking role most suited to him. Gradel, I believe, became disenchanted about the emphasis City placed on defending before attacking and it had a negative effect on Dyer too. Dyer ended up mostly as a one-half influence who was often subbed as his energy-levels waned later on and who eventually lost his place altogether because our tactics so restricted his influence as they did Gradel's. Countless times and over recent years we've re-inforced our iffy defences by the use of non-specialist wingers - Oakley in particular under Pearson but also including several others including the Kelly masterstroke of using Stephen Hughes. Put bluntly, it doesn't work. Why? Because it means we don't and won't score enough goals.

It means we are better than Leeds, which is always something good to be reminded of. Very true that. Now all we have to do is negotiate a part-exchange deal involving Beckford and Campbell. I would laugh my testicles off if Leeds mucked it up from where they are though.
maddog Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Does anyone one know roughly how much wonga we got for him? Got to be between 250k-500k with a 20% sell on clause i rekon. Pure guess though.
maddog Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Proper football? So he wasn't putting 100% in when he did play? Imbasil. Fawlty
dandannieldanok Posted 25 January 2010 Posted 25 January 2010 Good luck to Gradel, I think in the long run we could regret letting him go as cheaply as it is reported to be. http://www.tribalfootball.com/leicester-de...y-future-598041 Oh dear oh dear, surely that's not true. If he did actually say that he is seriously overestimating his 'talent', or to put it bluntly, completely deluded. Never in a million years would he get anywhere near the Man City team providing they've seen his performances for us. Doubt he'd make the reserve team up there.
