Thracian Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Apologies if I'm wrong, but, as I understand it, Max was unhappy at the way he was utilised, particularly the emphasis on his being a defender first and attacker second - in other words being expected to constantly help his full-back but then having to sprint 100 yards to deliver a constant stream of balls into the box. Word is he felt it ruined his game and he was not happy being expected to hug the line whenever we gained possession (remember Macclesfield), thus restricting his freedom and flair which he feels is a vital part of his game and is something I've mentioned on various occasions. I've referred to Leicester being a graveyard for wingers because of this dual task philosophy which seems to expect twice as much from these players - who constantly need explosive energy - while relatively one-paced defenders have a comparatively cushy life offering only limited attacking support, Stearman excepted when he was here. Long have I said we need fast, reliable, passing players at full-back which would, of course, ease the pressure on any wingers in our side and save them having to effectively do two jobs. Although I quite rate Solano, exactly how the veteran Peruvian will accomplish the all-action up-and-down the flank role apparently expected of Gradel I'll be interested to see. What Solano has that Gradel doesn't is reliable crossing. Gradel admits this is a weakness in his game but believes that only a regular run in a team will enable him to improve consistently. Yes, Gradel was used only sparingly by Grayson but I think Gayson told him this from the start, and the perfectly logical and probably wise reason why.
beastiebites Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Maxi has not got near our first team this season, and unless he improves a lot in the next 9 months he will be very lucky to be very close to yours next season either. Yeah but I don't think he was happy at Leicester. He loves it at Leeds and the fans love him and he has definately changed the game when he's come on. I can't see him being a starter for us but he's there purely as an impact player. He's still young and he's been given a chance with a decent enough manager so you can't really blame Max for wanting to go to Leeds. Sometimes these players turn out to be Gems and what Ive seen has shown flashes of that. If he's happy in a team then it will show in his performance.Likewise if he was unhappy which I think he was for you.
Kilworthfox Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 One in, one out. **not in a racial way I love how you felt the need to clarify
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 What a saga...at the end of the day I'm past caring. Altho here are some things I find telling about Gradel - Only 23 starts in League One for us last season - if he was gods gift he'd have made more starts in that League for sure Coupled with my opinions of him - Looks lazy and disinterested for large chunks Can't cross a ball to save his life As we aspire to be a Premier League team in the not too distant future, could he fulfill that? Probably not, therefore I'm not fussed if he leaves... He was great at Bournemouth in League One a few years back - that's quite clearly his level if you ask me. Wasn't he in West Hams youth setup as well, and didnt make the grade (I might have just made that bit up...)... Adios Max - cheers for that Corner that plonked right on Howards head v Leeds last season

Rocky Dennis Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 I think 'potentially' you have lost a good player in Max. I know a few of you never rated Kisnorbo highly but he has been one of Leeds's best player by a mile. Post match reviews in the papers usually deservedly give him an 8 or 9 and is a complete rock in central defence. Gradel is another player that seems to have shined for Leeds as an impact player and bar one game have changed the game somewhat by coming on in the last 20 minutes, either with a goal or with an assist.A flash of brilliance like this does suggest he does have it in in his locker, maybe not always but could be a good investment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BAMWYY776E Im sure you hope he does well in his career, even if it is us dirty Leeds.!! Good luck for the rest of the season. You underestimate the higher standard of football in our league! Kissa cannot pass a football to save his life, not a problem in league 1 but is in the Championship! Our worst performances last season coincided with his return to the team, we certainly dont miss him! Same goes for Max, he's a show pony with a few Cruyff turns in his locker who looks pretty good in League 1 (although apparently not good enough for Leeds starting 11) Not good enough for us in this league and almost certainly not good enough for Leeds next season when they begin their march to European Glory again! Good Luck yourselves
markbsac Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 i liked gradel young with a lot to offer in the future he has been good at leeds cos they have played him where he should be.....so we get rid of a good young attacking winger...and replace him with a 35 year old has been.....dont get me wrong i thought nobby at villa and newcastle was a really good player.......but come on nigel hes 36 one old player in one young talent out the door.....dont make sense to me !
Jimmy Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 this deal needs to have a shit load of add ons, especially if the fee is quite low
Edmund Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 this deal needs to have a shit load of add ons, especially if the fee is quite low Hopefully a sell on clause.

You can only assume he wants the money from Gradel for something else, seeing as Solano was free perhaps there is someone else lined up? Or maybe he needs the money for Taylor? I have skipped half the thread becaues no way am i reading 46 pages. Sorry if I am repeating anyone else.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 What a gutter - we get in Nobby, who would have been an ideal role model for Maxi, someone who he could have learned a lot from, and he hands in a transfer request. I am disapointed, because say what you like about the guys talent, he played football with a smile on his face and that is infectious and can make others play better and fans feel better about their club - something this place seems to need. I'm not saying that every moron that can show a good set of pearly whites regardless of talent should play in our team, but he had that little something about him. I for one wouldn't want him to play against us anytime soon, I fear he'd put the performance of a lifetime in against us.
Ozwin Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 He hasn't gone yet people. Beckford handed one in and he's withdrawn it now.

I would take kisnorbo over wayne brown, everytime, and as he showed against man utd in the cup, he`s a solid defender too, despite what a fair few posters on here may think.
mmarkie Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 He hasn't gone yet people. Beckford handed one in and he's withdrawn it now. He has, he told me on Facebook Chat.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 So Maxi's handed in a transfer request and is leaving soon then... shame. But we've not used him thus far so it's not like we're losing anyone that's contributed anything this season.

Matt Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Shame, I'll be sad to see him go but like i've always said is there any point in keeping a player that doesn't want to play for us? Not really. It might be the case of he does want to play for us, but Pearson won't play him, so he wants to leave so he can play somewhere. There is obviously something behind the scenes that has gone on and it's not right, Even dating back to last season - Reading between the lines KIA has pretty much always said that there was something wrong. Good Luck in the future Maxi - Just hope we can cash in on you
dandannieldanok Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Those saying Gradel can't cross a ball obviously dismiss Howard's goal against Leeds ever happened then? There is a difference between not being able to cross and not being able to do it on a consistent basis. At his age I'm confident he'll be able to learn to cross consistently in the future.

Koke Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 I'm past caring tbh. Good luck to the lad at Leeds.
Houdini Logic Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 I'm past caring tbh. Good luck to the lad at Leeds. I would normally agree, but I can't wish anyone luck when it has the knock on effect of doing well for Leeds. **** off Gradel - hope your dressing room catches on fire
