MC Prussian Posted 1 November 2009 Posted 1 November 2009 Success can also equal cup glory. But of course, I wouldn't say nay drifting to Premiership shores...
maddog Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 I'm pretty certain we will at least make the playoffs now. I honestly can't imagine 6 different teams all finishing above us, it's not happening, it can't.
Kilworthfox Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 As long as the top division in English continues to short change many critical traditions involved within the English game I will that Leicester City will not be involved in the top division. This does not mean that I do not wish us to do well and beat every side which we play against NO, I believe that the Premier League has many horrid points which I prefer not to have involved with the team which I support. A few examples of the bad parts of top flight football would be: Excessive ticket prices Even more matches moved for Sky, not 3pm on Saturday, but 12, 2, 4 or 5:15 on Saturday or Sunday. Anyone claiming to be a fan from Asia (with Fuji camera) who is now a fan because of our latest Asian tour, where we played Spurs in the Bangkok Cup of endless glory where we lost in a penalty shootout, would make my stomach feel as if it were falling, or as if I had gone over a hump back bridge too quickly. My ability to stand would be further tested at the football with more scrutiny as were would be in the spotlight a lot more The JCL's would be back at the crisp bowl, so the song where were you when we were shit would come out & we could have "that" debate again! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 positives I could see from going up however would be that we could take the money & run! If we did a Watford from a few seasons back, take the £30 -£40 Million, don't invest get 20 points & relegated, but buy the stadium off the Americans and have the Parachute payments in reserve for the following 2 seasons which we could pass on to our loyal 17k supporters. Also With promotion Mandy would sell us in a heartbeat, and possibly we could have a proper owner without any ?'s & who could run the club for its own interests, rather than someone who runs the club for their own interest? Or do I live in such a world
Kilworthfox Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 I'm pretty certain we will at least make the playoffs now.I honestly can't imagine 6 different teams all finishing above us, it's not happening, it can't. WHY? I think you may not have taken into consideration: Milan Mandaric Injuries Not every performance will be QPR (a) Form dipping - happens to everyone A howler of a performance 1 mistake costing us points January Transfers, possibly 1+ could come or go & leave us in a different state than the 1 we are in now. Things look good I admit, but lets not shine our balls too much or there will be no balls to shine come the end of the season!
Guest Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 Here's a rhetorical/hypothetical question for everyone that doesn't seem to want Leicester to win promotion: if City were to make it to the playoff final at Wembley, would you want them to lose that game? You can probably infer from that question how I feel about this matter. This isn't an easy dilemma, and it's annoying that everyone wants to turn it into a simple black and white "yes or no" issue. I want us to win, I like us winning. But I don't like the Premiership, and I don't like what it stands for. Would I enjoy a play off final win? Yes. Would I enjoy winning at the Emirates, say? Yes, of course. Would I enjoy paying over £30 for the privilege? No. Would I enjoy the over policing and stewarding seen at away grounds in the Premiership? No. Would I enjoy the fact that all the boozers near to a lot of Premiership teams are 'home fans only'? No. Would I enjoy the fact that the atmosphere isn't what it's like on the TV, especially with the big teams? No. Would I enjoy going to the WS, and finding a plastic sitting next to me and not in the away end? No. Would I enjoy the animosity that this causes, and the scraps in the stands and the concourses? No. Would I enjoy having to watch my team play on a Sunday, when public transport is limited, just because the opposition have played on Thursday night? No. Would I enjoy not seeing City play on a Saturday at 3pm for a few weeks? No. Would I enjoy the patronising or even disparaging reports following any of our victories? No. Would I enjoy seeing players come here demanding ridiculous amounts of money in wages? No. Would I enjoy the increase in season ticket price to pay for these players? No. I'm sure that I can think up some more questions and answers.....

Things look good I admit, but lets not shine our balls too much or there will be no balls to shine come the end of the season! Based on the start to the season so far, and the fact every side up there in the top 10 are all stuttering and dropping points every other week. Also we've chucked away points in all those drawn matches especially Watford. Are 6 sides in this poor division really going to finish above us, i seriously doubt it. We also have Matty Fryatt, who has massively proved me wrong this season, whos up there in the goalscoring charts. We have a really tough, solid defence, and have all of a sudden got some options in midfield up front. And more importantly have lost the LEAST games this season of ANY OTHER TEAM Taking all that into account, theres no way 6 sides will finish above us. I don't know where we will be in the top six, but we will be there, not even MM could fook this up.
The Doctor Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 Burnley, Stoke, Hull haven't got 'killed'.I don't think we would if we went up to be honest.
Ozwin Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 Geez, we played well against QPR granted but people are getting a bit carried away. Give it until Christmas at least.
Matt Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 If we got promoted, we'd get killed. Much rather have success in the Championship Its a Catch 22, Success in the Championship = Promotion. So what do you class as success without promotion? 1st? That means promotion. 2nd? That means promotion. 3rd? Playoffs. 4th? Playoffs. 5th? Playoffs. 6th? Playoffs. If we finished 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th without winning the playoffs every season no matter how much you wanted "success in the championship" you would get pissed off getting knocked out of the playoffs every season. Same as if we finished 1 place out of the Playoffs every season you would get pissed off that we didn't quite make the playoffs.
Father Ted Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 If we got promoted, we'd get killed. Much rather have success in the Championship Even if we do get 'killed', we would get the parachute payments, TV money, etc. and be much better of from it. Don't forget the experience aswell. We'd then be stronger for the season after.

You can probably infer from that question how I feel about this matter. Objectively speaking, my dream season would involve a play off final appearance at Wembley. The sight and sound of over 40,000 blue army at the new Wembley makes me tingle with excitement even now, and takes me back to that thunderous moment when we pulled it back to 3-3 against Swindon in 93. From my calm perspective of early November, I reckon I'd get over a defeat fairly quickly. After all, there isn't much joy in a successful season involving finishing 17th or higher in the Prem, and taking an occasional whipping from a big team, or even a Wigan. But there is just that sneaking suspicion that the bottom eight in the Prem aren't that much better than the top of the Championship, so with an injection of cash and some astute signings we might just be able to hang on in there. But is that much to look forward to - just hanging on in there in the Prem? I'll let you know this time next year - when we've just sneaked an outrageous point at the Emirates thanks to a Maxi Gradel free kick from just outside the box in the 94th minute

With where we've been in the last 3-4 years, play-offs is definately success this season even if we do lose out in the semis/final.
dandannieldanok Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 If we got promoted, we'd get killed. Much rather have success in the Championship I don't get where this comes from, and its not just you who think this its an awful lot of people. Those that don't want to get promoted seem to have this assumption that we'd always be successful in the Championship. This league can change so quickly that you're never sure where you may end up. To assume that if we didn't get promoted we could have endless years of top-half success in this league is ridiculous in my opinion. If we can maintain our position or at least be within a few points of the play-offs then we must go for it next calendar year because this kind of opportunity may not come around for another 5 years.

Yeah get me wrong, If we go up great i'm not going to complain, however i'm not sure I want to go up this season as it will be a season or 2 early, IMO it would do more damage than good, But I would like to go to playoffs and go get to the playoff finals just for the experience and that could either way i'm not sure which though, could be a great experience which the players learn from or it could do damage to us. I have said this since pre-season.
Daggers Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 November has only just begun. So here's a picture of an egg people can count and then colour in while they're waiting for it to hatch.

I can see where you are coming from to a certain extent but I would counter by asking whether you feel we are that much worse than Burnley were last season? I don't think we are any worse than they were when they went up personally and they seem to be holding their own at the moment. For me the pinnacle is the Premiership and always will be. I do not remember any one saying they would prefer to be in the Championship when O'Neil was manager. As for fans coming out of the woodwork it happens at every club not just Leicester. To suggest that you don't want a fan at the games because they are "plastic" smacks of football snobbery. I do not get to go as often as I would like at the moment because of where I live, the days I work and I have 3 young children. If they went up and I went a little more often would this make me a plastic fan?

No it wasn't in particular. It was a comment in general that some may think they are better fans because they go more often.

If they went up and I went a little more often would this make me a plastic fan? On the other hand I just think back to the relegation season for Derby 2 years ago (?) now tbh I didn't look at their team in depth that season that much so can't really compare that team to our current team - I know they had Howard and Oakley that is it really. I felt their promotion campaign was rushed and that has obviously done them more damage than good. It's swings and roundabouts, A group of good players and management, and Luck. Some clubs take to it, survive, do well from it, Other are Poor, Don't survive and get hurt by it with a bad set of players and management who aren't 'gelled', and Unlucky. I believe we are half way there, With a good set of players and management but just feel we shouldn't rush it, as i've said in my last post, If it happens great, I'm not going to be unhappy with it, at the end of the day we want our club to do the best and to say I don't us to be in the Premiership is stupid but i'd rather take it slow and go up when we're ready rather than rush it - There is no saying we're not ready now, and there is no saying even if we wait a year or 2 we will definitely survive, I just feel that is the way to go about it, No-one can predict what is to come.
Ashley Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 I dont see the problem with talking about promotion at the minute, IF we ever do get promoted this season it'll make us stronger in the long run.
Lillehamring Posted 2 November 2009 Posted 2 November 2009 I really hate the fact that promotion would mean glory supporters and the like would start supporting the club after ditching them following relegation in 04. Even on facebook now, several of my 'friends' that have said for 6 years how 'leicester city are so shitty' as they put it, and laughed at me for supporting them, suddenly declaring they've always loved Leicester City and they're Leicester till they die and shit because we're looking a decent bet for promotion.Several factors mean I hope we don't get promoted, and yes it means to some extent I am questionning my support of the team at times. But growing to despise home games like some on here already do, and being unable to afford away games? No thanks. um, it's only a game.

Would you enjoy being able to look down at the forest, derby and cov fans at work? Would you enjoy watching some of the worlds best footballers week in week out? Would you enjoy seeing your club tested at the highest level? Would you enjoy actually having a fighting chance at getting to or winning a cup final? Would you enjoy having potentially fewer teams to steal our better players and manager? Would you enjoy extra money being available to maybe run a reserve team? Would you enjoy not sitting in an embarrassingly half empty stadium plastics or not? Would you enjoy local kids starting to wear city shirts instead of chelsea shirts? Would you enjoy the possibilty of playing in europe? and if we stay in the CCC Would you enjoy watching all but 3 teams sit with 10 men behind the ball Would you enjoy the splendor of hoof ball and head tennis for 80 minutes of most matches Would you enjoy having to deal with losing our manager and players every other year when they get frustrated of not playing top flight footy Would you enjoy having the fear off a relegation battle into L1 Would you enjoy midtable obscurity and the 4th round of the FA CUP and a glamour tie against Stoke City Would you enjoy having topps tiles as your shirt sponsor Would you enjoy Mandaric giving up and selling up to some oil baron Would you enjoy Mandaric not being able to find a buyer and staying here for the next ten years... I know how i'd answer these questions....
Captain... Posted 3 November 2009 Posted 3 November 2009 I will be cheering on every victory this season and be gutted by every defeat, so naturally I want us to win every game and if we do that we will get promoted and I will be happy, in the premiership I will still be cheering on victory and I will be gutted by every deafeat so naturally I want us to win that too... If we get promoted we will strengthen the squad we will attract better players to the Walkers, we want to see current Dutch internationals playing for us not retired, over the hill, greedy ones, but to attract these players we need Premiership status and the money that comes with it. When we get promoted though we have to make sure that we don't make the same mistakes as before, by not overspending on rubbish players and leave ourselves financially committed to these useless lumps, and end up in administration again. If this team gets us promoted then this team should be the core of our premiership team, they should be given big bonusses for every premiership win/point as a reward/incentive but not massive wages. If we get relegated the next season then we should stick with the squad and management team and not make wholesale changes. We did this before and we lost the team spirit and it's heart and it has taken us years to recover (if we actually have). I pissed myself laughing when Derby sacked Billy Davies, what the hell did they think anyone could do with that squad in the premiership? Bringing in Paul Jewell who then brought in overpaid, over the hill mercenaries was just too funny to watch. If we get promoted sign 11 journey men on premiership wages we will get screwed and it will be a horrible season, but surely we won't make the same mistake again...
