Super_horns Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Yes that is fair enough. Wasn't a go at you..ofcourse if more peopel see a sport they will remember it and vote on that but the anti-BBC press always say its some sort of rigged voting system (maybe because the person they want to win doesn't..)
lcfc_jme Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 No Chris Powell !?! Outrageous. Him, Wayne Brown and Bruno Berner should be on there.
Finnegan Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Jimmy Bullard imo. Get in. Jense all over, though. I've an equal appreciation for Boxing and F1 and don't really see how anyone could want Haye, sports personality? Haha, the guy doesn't HAVE a personality. He's a tool and while the Valuev result is an incredible feat it's just one night of his life. Jenson Button's worked so hard for years, against all odds, and finally got his opportunity. He took it with dignity, humility and a real passion for his sport and it's been great to watch all year. Be absolutely criminal if someone else gets it.
Nick Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 I'm not so sympathetic to Jenson. I don't think he's an amazing personality that makes people proud. I think yes he's worked hard to get where he is but has also had the opportunities and very much enjoyed the lifestyle. My problem is why Jenson this year? Why not in the last few years? Is it because he won? Does that make him more of a 'personality'? Because I think the past years F1 season was a joke. The diffuser row was really screwed up. One can say that Brawn and Red Bull and Toyota and all the little teams that were smarter and brighter and outwitted and out-thought Ferrari and Mclaren with their technology design........ Or you can see the other teams point of view, in stating that when rules are changed in F1, the rules that preceded the new rules are removed from legislation/ the rule book. This wasn't done. The big teams didn't do this with their car design because they wouldn't have got away with it. The smaller teams had they been made to change the cars or had a points penalty would have been nowhere, likely to have gone bust and dropped out of the season or F1 totally as sponsors would have pulled the plug. F1 knew that if the smaller guys lost this battle (which conveniently levelled the playing field and made F1 competitive rather than the two horse race similar to the Scottish Premier League) Then comes the weird Branson cash injection to Brawn.......... why this year? Eddie Jordan and many Brit Teams have begged him to come on board in previous years.... He now comes on board under a guise of cleaner fuel development (which is not being used and he's pulling out after a year anyway) What did Brawn have, to basically guarantee the camera publicity sponsor time on the car at the start of the season? So Jenson gets his big 6 race advantage where he wins every race then the rest of the field is nowhere. Then does he continue to dominate when the rest of the teams mackle a car together to compete? Does he f@*k. Sports personality of the year? Crap. David Haye? Don't even get me started on David Haye. Personality? In a Heavy Weight field devoid of quality. Trash-talking, undignified poser, role-model for young kids? The Russian guy he fought was humble, possessed humility, was intelligent and particularly gutsy.... He was a fella I would vote for had he been English. Both of the two British World Champions are in my opinion not hero's or personalities to be proud of doing amazing work for communities or being role models that are particularly positive. And personally both I am sure are extremely hard working and 'nice' people. Are they 'personalities' or is it the "Sports Achievement of the Year Award By Default" I'd look at that list again for somebody inspiring.
Fosse Boy Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 England Women's Cricket Team definitely deserve team of the year.
Uncle Albert Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Jense all over, though. I've an equal appreciation for Boxing and F1 and don't really see how anyone could want Haye, sports personality? Haha, the guy doesn't HAVE a personality. He's a tool and while the Valuev result is an incredible feat it's just one night of his life. David Haye doesnt have a personality?! Oh dear. I really dont want to Button to win it, would love to see Andy Murray win it or Andrew Strauss and dont get me started on Ryan Giggs being nominated, old Welsh twat.
C-man Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 David Haye doesnt have a personality?! Oh dear. Not one that would entice the sort of people who vote to vote for him. Athletes really do well in these, so I'm definitely predicting a top 3 finish for Jess Ennis. Otherwise, Andrew Strauss deserves acclaim but I'm sure Button will win it. Not that I give a fuck about F1.
purpleronnie Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 David Haye for me. Not a massive boxing fan but what he has acheived is amazing and he actually has a personality. He come across as quite intelligent, which is rare with boxers. If Button wins it I will be really pissed off. After Lewis missed out in the previous two year, first year after coming within a point of winning the title in his debut season and last year after winning the title, it will be a joke if Jenson gets it. That would be sooo funny I hope it happens. If only to see the reaction in the robots face.
Uncle Albert Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Not one that would entice the sort of people who vote to vote for him. Yeah but to say he has no personality isn't correct, he has more of a personality than most of them people on that list put together. My vote is going to Andy Murray anyway.
lildave3 Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Of course Haye has a personality! If you've seen interviews of him from years gone by you'd see he's a funny chap.
dandannieldanok Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Mark Cavendish's talent and personality shits over everybody elses in that list.
purpleronnie Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Yeah but to say he has no personality isn't correct, he has more of a personality than most of them people on that list put together. My vote is going to Andy Murray anyway. You know it makes sense.
Jimothy Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 You all need to get out of your heads that this a personality contest. It might be called Sports Personality of the Year, be that really means sports person. The actual description of the award is "Awarded to the sportsperson whose actions have most captured the public's imagination". So in no way does it say must be given to the nicest person. Have you not noticed every year the top ten are made up of the biggest achievers in British sport? It's not just made up of the nicest, funniest peple in sport is it? If it was just given to the nicest, funniest and down to earth sports person it would be the same people every year. Being nice will help because people won't genrally vote for moody wankers (Andy Murray springs to mind), but it's not given for that. If it was how many times would Jimmy Bullard have won it? So it's the person from that 10 who's achievment this year most captured you imagination, made you feel the most pride in your nation etc, not just the nicest person on the list.
Webbo Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 You all need to get out of your heads that this a personality contest. It's a public vote. People will vote for who they like and personality comes into it.
Sparky Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Amir Khan? Makes an interesting debate this does. Not a huge fan of Khan but this year he became a world champion , Haye became a world champion. Cant see a logical reason why Khan is not listed at least
Samilktray Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Makes an interesting debate this does. Not a huge fan of Khan but this year he became a world champion , Haye became a world champion. Cant see a logical reason why Khan is not listed at least Find it completely baffling. Last time I checked Andy Murray hadnt won a major this year and yet still gets on the list, Amir becomes a World Champion and isnt on there. Daft
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Shortlist:-Jenson Button -Mark Cavendish -Tom Daley -Jessica Ennis -Ryan Giggs -David Haye -Phillips Idowu -Andy Murray -Andrew Strauss -Beth Tweddle Haye, Button, Giggs and Strauss are the likely chocies. Why should Murray get anywhere near it? He has done fook all.
hairy Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 I'm actually going to this, Live. Now Sheehan knows where it find you
Jimothy Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 It's a public vote. People will vote for who they like and personality comes into it. Oh of course they will, thats why I said people won't vote for a moody willy puller. But we're all sat here discussing the nominees on the merits of their personality, which this contest isn't about. It may come down to it on the public vote, but in compiling the list personalilty doesn't come into it, sporting achievement does.
purpleronnie Posted 1 December 2009 Posted 1 December 2009 Find it completely baffling.Last time I checked Andy Murray hadnt won a major this year and yet still gets on the list, Amir becomes a World Champion and isnt on there. Daft True but he did reach number 3 in the world the first brit to do that in decades, and won plenty of tournaments too. I agree Amir should be on the list, he certainly wouldnt get my vote though, but if he wins on saturday he should definately be on that list.
Wycombe Fox Posted 13 December 2009 Posted 13 December 2009 I would like; 1. Jenson Button 2. Jessica Ennis 3. Phillips Idowu but I think it'll be; 1. Jenson Button 2. David Haye 3. Ryan Giggs
Guest Mee-9 Posted 13 December 2009 Posted 13 December 2009 1 - Ryan Giggs 2 - Tom Daley (Frankly to be a world champion at 15, is pretty amazing) 3 - Jenson Button
