Matt Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnDufhH6xOw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsExRNxhAeI And his assistants. *Clattenburg officiated in both matches. DB11, explanations on how the goal/no goal were fair and the referee/assistant's decisions are correct?
The Doctor Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 deary me, that nani goal was terrible - he dived, handled it and still scored.
JohnnieSpangles Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 It's cheating pure an simple and the referee and assistant need to be suspended for their handling of the incident. First off the assistant saw the handball but choose not to flag for it, for that he backed Clattenberg in to a corner. However Clattenberg's actions of stopping the Spurs players registering their complaints but then letting Ferdinand shout over his discussion was weak and showed he can't handle self styled big players.
Webbo Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Absolutely pathetic. No other team in the country would have got away with that.
Jay Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 That Idiot Clattenburgs excuse was he played advantage yet he and the linesman new it was a handball, what a load of crap It's no coincidence that shit decisions and controversy follow him around.
StanSP Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 There's a reason why you can't class it as cheating: Clattenburg incorrectly didn't blow his whistle for the handball, as a result of the linesman's inability to raise his flag on time after seeing the handball. Gomes should have played to the whistle and not assume there was a free-kick. Nani though shouldn't have been so cowardly and taken the goal. Mark Clattenburg decidedn that there was advantage to be played which is why he didn't blow his whistle. However, if that's the case, and Nani got up and took the ball, then he should have blown his whistle then as there's no advantage being played. Gomes should have got on with it though. I think the linesman is at fault. He only flagged when Gomes went mental towards him. He should have made it clearer to the referee that Nani handled the ball during open play (seeing as the ref didn't blow his whistle).
Jay Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 There is an angle from the half way line where you can see Clattenburg with his arms outstretched indicating whats going on before Nani has even kicked the ball. From what I understand the advantage rule has a time and if no advantage is apparent then he can blow the whistle, this is what he should have done. Clattenburg has admitted that he saw the handball and it should have been a booking, why he let it carry on and get to the stage where Gomez put the ball down only he knows.
Super_horns Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 No-one came out of this very well.. Nani tried to cheat by diving and then handballing which I presume the ref didn't seen so didn't blow up as Gomes expected him to.. BTW Since when has Rio Ferdinand been part of the match officials?

BTW Since when has Rio Ferdinand been part of the match officials? exactly what i was gonna say. the 4/5 (including Rio) people involved did themselves no good at all. Poor from each of them.
BoneDog Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 This is in the top five of pathetic dis-honourable football moments of all time. Nani, the ref, Ferdinand and the linesman all come out of it with -25 respect. And the interview on SSN with Dermot G was horrible. He just came out with reasons why Clattenburg was in his right to award the goal and there was no real opinion on what happened, just spouting official bullcrap. Having headsets and communication is supposed to help referees get things right but they seem to be getting worse to me. Absolutely bloody useless with no common sense whatsoever.
Father Ted Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 So it takes a decision like this for people to finally realise that he is a crap ref... I'm pretty sure he reffed our cup game against Villa when we were robbed.
sdb Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 didn't he do Cardiff 1st leg?? missed a few penalties i thought.
Babylon Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 PLAY TO THE WHISTLE!!! Keepers fault in my opinion. From the shots I've seen the ref didn't play advantage as his arms were behind he back to say no penalty, the only time I saw him move his arms to the play on position was after Gomez chucked the ball on the floor, even then it was more of a shrug than a play on, as if saying "what are you doing". If the linesman saw the hand ball he should have flagged at the start rather than a minute late, but I can only imagine he let it go as Gomez had the ball and it looked like he would have the advantage if let it carry on. Don't really see the ref being at fault here personally.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 So it takes a decision like this for people to finally realise that he is a crap ref... I'm pretty sure he reffed our cup game against Villa when we were robbed. Nah, I sussed that when he gave Villa an 89th minute penalty because he wanted to be off on time.
Finnegan Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Absolutely pathetic. No other team in the country would have got away with that. Yeah. Only Man Utd ever gain anything from ridiculous reffing.
CosbehFox Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Personally I thought it was a penalty. The goal line decision wasnt his error either.
The Doctor Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 didn't he do Cardiff 1st leg?? missed a few penalties i thought. alan wiley did that.
Wymsey Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 This ref is the worst one i have watched ever!! Embarrassing. He is a bloody man utd fan indeed.

Ford Super Sunday Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Still think Stuart Attwell edges that one. I've seen DB11 ref. Believe me, Stuart Atwell is Collina compared to DB11

Haydos Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Mark Clattenburg decidedn that there was advantage to be played which is why he didn't blow his whistle. However, if that's the case, and Nani got up and took the ball, then he should have blown his whistle then as there's no advantage being played. I'm in agreement with this. It WAS poorly handled by the linesman and clattenburg should definitely have pulled him up once he'd interfered with play. I can't see how between the two of them the goal was awarded. If we're playing the blame game though, gomes hasnt done himself any favours. Don't understand why he isnt playing to the whistle, there's no reason to assume he has a free kick as he has a perfectly playable advantage. Cock ups all round
Koke Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Gomes' fault. Clattenburg was correct. He didn't whistle for freekick as Gomes had the advantage with the ball in his hand. All in all, Nani is a tantrum-throwing idiot, but ultimately it is Gomes' fault for not playing to the whistle.
