I am going to have to go for a top 5 not in any particular order:

Value for money

Alan Smith

Gary McAlister

Muzzy Izzett

Steve Walsh

Neil Lennon

Worst

Spider Kalac

Ade Akinbiyi

Dennis Wise

Matt Jones

Graham Fenton

Value for money;

Muzzy Izzet

Emile Heskey (Came through the ranks so was free, then made us a stupid amount of money)

Lennon/Walsh

Waste of Money;

Everyone's favorite Ade Akinbiyi

Junior Lewis (Did not cost much but was a waste of space!)

There was a player in our last season in the prem who we bought and was then injured before he even played a match and never returned. Think it was Lee Morris

Certainly not the worst wastes of money actually but they are up there. Actually thinking about 2 Mill for DJ was a big fat waste! Oh i cant decide there is loads!

When you think about the money outlay in wages on him, after the £1.6m inital fee, it comes to about £4.5m, which is eye watering considering what he actually did

Bargains mmm ok

Iwan Roberts, £300,000, top scorer for three seasons and then sold for a tidy profit.

Steve Walsh, was it £100,000 ? despite having a few red cards an able enough defender and striker.

Simon Grayson, brought on the very cheap, was our right back for half a decade and captained the team to a wembley win, played reasonably well in the prem in O'niells teams before being sold for a nice tidy profit.

waste of money.

Ade, five million for a striker who couldnt do the business for us.

Matt Jones, brought for £3,000,000 has the new Neil Lennon :giggle:

Zeljko, big goalkeeper is all you can say really :dunno:

Andy King - on a free from chelsea I believe ?

Jack Hobbs - 400,000 for someone who will play for england

David Connolly - brought for about 500,000, was a good player IMO, then sold for £3.5 million.

Ade Akinbadbuy - £5million , having a laugh !

DJ campbell - £1.6 million plus wages and wa shit

Matt Jones ? - £3million + and played about 3 games !

Bargins

Muzzy Izzet

Jack Hobbs

Les Ferdinand

Don't think steve walsh cost all that much either

Worst signings:

Ade Akibiyi - £5.5m + wages for that?

DJ Campbell - £1.6m + wages - constantly having a strop, permanantly offside, generally utter bollocks

Mark De Vries - Didn't cost as much as the other two but shitter still.

heskey wasn't really a signing though was he?

Still has to sign a professional contract to play in the first team, but yer i see your point of view. You are all just Jealous because you would not have thought of it :P

Value for money

----------------------

Alan Smith - cost about £20,000 from Alvechurch, scored 84 goals in 206 games.

Gary MacAllister - wasn't he just the makeweight in the Ali Mauchlen deal?

Steve Walsh - cost £100,000 and became a legend

Worst Signings

---------------------

Ade Akinbye - not only can I not believe we payed £5.5 million for him (ouch), but that we actually managed to get £2.2 million when we sold him (if ever proof was needed that Trevor Francis didn't know a thing about football management)

Matt Jones - how much?????

Darren Eadie - although not a bad player it was obvious that he was injury prone before we bought him. £3.5 million and 40 games later he retired due to injuries.

Agreed re Akinbiyi and DJ Campbell being on the negs list! The frustrating thing was and what made it worse was that they were pants for us at any time, bar scoring the odd goal here and there (like a defenders goal tally ratio per season!) but they always did well anywhere else they went! - Akinbiyi for numerous clubs before and after us while DJC for Blackpool last season of course.....

Worst is easy with Akinbiyi, DJ Campbell and thena pick from others I would go with Dennis Wise. What a cock.

Best signings, there are too many to choose from.

Steve Walsh, Tony Cottee and.....

Steve Claridge. nothing will ever repay the goals against Palace and Boro :scarf:

edit: Doh, beaten to it. I should have posted instead of surfing the web whilst the editor was open. Oh well, i only get so long on the web at lunch

I dont think you can say Matt Jones as he was seriously injured and they would have got a lot of insurance money you may as well say Darren Eadie who was the same .

neither MON* or Jimmy Bloomfield wasted a penny in their transfer dealings - Worthington, Elliott, Izzett- fantastic value for what they brought to the side

crap signings don't get much worse than Akinbiyi but Roger Davies and Mick Kennedy were pricey (at the time) failures

* apart from Graham Fenton
