TAFT Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 Weale is good he's confidance just worrys me sometimes in last seasons 2nd leg play off at cardif he was very shaky but Ikeme is shocking apart from his goal kicks hes crap so kirkland would be a good signing but it probley wont happern we seemed to be linked with every one but we have only gone through with davis,naughton,cunningham and vasell

I dispair sometimes. It beggars belief.... For one thing he is second choice at Wigan (4th bottom of the Prem) he has conceded 11 goals in 3 games so far this season and averages conceding 1.5 goals a game whilst on average making less than 3 saves a game. (Stats from the last 4 seasons with Wigan) He played 25 games in 5 years at Liverpool, and has played once for England. He isn't quite David James. There are cheaper options for the short term (I'm sure Arsenal wouldn't mind a couple of their youngsters having a go in the championship), and better options for the long term - Given, Cudicini, Kuzszcak, Krul spring to mind. If he comes, and it looks likely, then naturally I will support him as he is not a bad keeper, but he is not that much better than Weale and I would expect us to replace him if/when we get promoted.

Wigan's defence was terrible in the 2 of the 3 games Kirkland played which they shipped loads of goals, the other was against Bolton who are a very good team now. H'e was 1st choice at Liverpool at the time of his injury and by the time they got back they had signed another keeper you may of heard of in Pepe Reina. Lastly to seriously suggest Chris Weale who has been a career lower league player and understudy until we got him is anywhere near the level of Kirkland is stupid, injuries have ruined Kirkland's career, but for them he's be a 50 cap player by now as he was much better than Robinson, when he got into the Liverpool team, with them having paid £5m for him, that knee ligament injury he suffered in the F.A. Cup vs Palace was the catalyst for a series of injuries that have restricted him to just 1 cap

It would almost certainly spell the end for Logan though. the WBA game last month did that, shame it was about 4-5 years too late.

I think you have forgotten we are 15th in the championship, ,mate. And please tell me you don't honestly think a keepers record is always down to him? Being at a club like wigan means you won't have the best of defences... and as you rightly said - they are 4th from bottom . And that's with him not playing much this season. They must have a great defence... But hey,what does sven know when it comes to picking players for city? All his siginings so far have been gash......

According to reports in Lancashire, the former England goalkeeper has grown frustrated at his lack of opportunities at the DW Stadium and wants to join City to get first-team football. The Barwell-born keeper was the Latics' first-choice stopper until the arrival of Ali Al-Habsi from Bolton earlier this season and has been on the substitutes' bench for most of the current campaign. Latics boss Roberto Martinez is said to be keen on signing Al-Habsi permanently, and Kirkland does not want to play second fiddle. At 29, Kirkland wants regular first-team football and the Mercury understands City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, who regularly picked him for his England squads when he was manager but gave him only one cap, will offer it to him Eriksson is keen to streng-then all areas of his squad and has had two goalkeepers on trial. Ex-Bayern Munich keeper Michael Rensing was not offered a contract, while Cameroon keeper Joslain Mayebi is training with the squad. City are not short of options with Chris Weale the first choice with back-up from Conrad Logan and Carl Ikeme. Kirkland began his career at Coventry City and became the most expensive goalkeeper in British transfer history when he joined Liverpool for £6 million in 2001. Injury and competition meant he made just 25 appearances in five years for the Anfield club. In 2005, he went on loan for a season to West Brom where he made 10 appearances and broke into the England squad again, before injury struck once more. However, he joined Wigan and rebuilt his career, winning the club's players' player of the season in 2008 and made 130 appearances for the Latics. City assistant manager Derek Fazackerley said earlier this week that City were likely to add to their squad before the loan window closes on Thursday, and Kirkland looks likely to be one of the additions.

Kirkland is quality on his day, and with our back 4, hopefully a couple of whom will be signed permanently in jan, we will havea formidable back line and one of the best inthe division for sure. The fact that he broke the transfer record for an English keeper speaks volumes for how good he is when fit and on form. It's worth noting that before pool spent 6 mil on Kirkland, we made a record GK signing of 1.1 million for Flowers if I remember rightly, and Flowers was quality.

Kirkland would add to those names. Team for Forest (if loans and king are availible) Kirkland Naughton Davies Hobbs Cunningham Vassel King Abe Dyer Bednar Howard Get some balls in the box and we will score goals with that strikeforce, plus have the two wingers high up the pitch ready for flick ons!

Chris weale was 2nd/ 3rd choice at Bristol City because of injury, by your logic he should not of made it into our team..... ad if i remember correctly he played for Yeovil before that!!
