Exercise ball (stress ball sized thing to squeeze) was quite a useful purchase as it acted as a fidget toy so you could use it throughout the day without really noticing.

Does anyone know if uber will do pick ups en route or if you can slip the driver a tenner to do? For example I need to get from Ashby pick someone up in Whitwick and then into Leicester tomorrow

I think you can add them as part of the route when you request the ride - at least that's what you're supposed to do. 

 

Given the portion of the fare they get (not that much) they might be open to changes during the ride itself for cash but I'm not sure if that mucks things up for them as I expect the ride is pretty closely monitored. Uber may not care though

You can add the pick up during the ride if you need to. They driver will tell you how to do it if need be.

Had some relatives visit today, who haven't been since we finished the renovations. Lots of pleasant, positive comments on the kitchen, lounge, living room and dining room, which we used or were all open and visible. As they were leaving and walking down the hall of the bungalow, decided on opening all the other doors, which are obviously the bedrooms, to have a look at those. Isn't that a bit rude? Looking into bedrooms uninvited seems a bit of an invasion of privacy to me. Is it just me?

In someone else's house you only go where you are directed.

 

Unless you are a potential housebuyer viewing the property or, alternatively, if permission has been contractually granted to your visitors to nose about by telling them "mi casa es su casa".

E = mv^2, my friend. 

 

Even though its velocity might be quite high, its mass is so low that the energy of impact is not enough to cause much damage. 

 

Same reason that quite a few small animals can sometimes survive quite high falls.

That and it's already stupid so it probably wouldn't know the difference with a significant head injury!

I get that but then the sound it makes is disproportionate to its v low weight

Well, less of my area of expertise, but I would also think that an insect exoskeleton would be better at absorbing direct impacts than the endoskeletal body structure of a larger bird or mammal, too.

A quick bit of Google-fu appears to show that such devices are being developed using currently existing technology for a variety of uses, but they're still mostly in the realm of bespoke design for specific requirements at premium prices.

Being an even bigger pedant, I'd say that the factor of 1/2 isn't a function - it's a coefficient.

If they are a thing over, whats the general guidelines with them? I can't think of anything worse but the other half has got it in her head that we should have 1

Its just an excuse to get your friends and family over, which as you get older becomes something increasingly rare and one of the things you'll miss most about being younger. Don't overthink it or think you have to do something extravagant, just invite your friends and family over for dinner and a couple of drinks and youll probably enjoy it.

It's very common in the South Asian community but it depends on families. Some rent halls and have all sorts of entertainment show up like a wedding (personally, i think this is super overkill but if you got the £  enjoy!)

 

When my wife and I got engaged, my inlaws wanted to celebrate and get both sides to meet. They have a 4 car garage ( 2 cars deep) which was used. No, they aren't rich but rather her dad had his own at home business welding so needed the space for work etc.

 

Anyhow,  they cleared stuff out, decorated it to hide some of the equipment and invited their side (her 1st cousin's and their parents) and we did the same on my side. Sure, it was like 100 people or so but it was simplistic and fun.

 

They catered some food in, made some and setup portable tables and chairs. One or her cousins has dj equipment so put tunes on.  I think of it as just a big family house party from both sides combined.
