Ric Flair Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 If Wellens went there then it would show him up to be a twat and therefore they can have him. He's in a good position is Richie though, he's blatantly haggling after a new deal and Blackpool can't offer him more wages than we can but they can tempt him with Premiership football 6 months earlier than we can. End result? We'll give him a new deal on 15k a week and he'll go back to being inconsistent like he did under Pearson, but he does deserve a new deal as the way he has played these past 2 months has been superb.
MikeyT Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 From SSN Transfer clockwatch: Blackpool are believed to be closing in on two new players but Ian Holloway has refused to name his targets. No obvious mention of Wellens but thought it could be interesting.
SMX11 Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 I would be very suprised if Wellens goes. Surely he can see Blackpool has no lasting ambitions in the Prem and could very go down this year. Even if it is closer to home, I believe he is smart enough to realise it would be a backward step in the long run.
muzzy1981 Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Can't we offer them oakley instead? I heard Neilson can play in the middle of the park!
MrSpaM Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Wouldnt be surprised if the wages they offered him were less than what were paying him now. Can't see him leaving myself
Guest BlueBrett Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Not surprised they have come in for him. They will be desperate now that Adams is going because they realise they are fooked without him. I don't think Wellens will bite though. The Blackpool project is over and they are due their inevitable decline. The Leicester City project is just getting started and we are much better set up to deliver sustained success.
Edmund Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 From SSN Transfer clockwatch: Blackpool are believed to be closing in on two new players but Ian Holloway has refused to name his targets. No obvious mention of Wellens but thought it could be interesting. Charlie Austin and Jérémie Aliadière
I am Rod Hull Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Well... this ones out of the blue...... Surely he wouldnt go to Blackpool ? But im sure Sven would get a more than adequate replacement. Just cant see it happening tbh...... Black fkin pool ?
Darkon84 Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Even though Charlie Adam has handed in his transfer request, Holloway is saying hes going nowhere....to be continued
shiv Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 He is integral to our game, without him we wouldn't be anywhere near the passing team we are and we would also lose alot of the possession %age we've been so good at this season. He's not irreplaceable, but it would cost an awful lot to get a player so proficient at short & long passes and retaining possession like he does. He's obviously several classes apart but he's our version of Xavi So true...
I am Rod Hull Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Even though Charlie Adam has handed in his transfer request, Holloway is saying hes going nowhere....to be continued Indeed.. Just seen on sky sports. Blackpool have turned down his transfer request. Sven should do the same..
drc Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 The problem for Richie is that he'll be 31 years old this year. He maybe never get another chance to play in the premiership. Also if we are realistic we won't be there next season. Even if we do great the next 18 games and finish in the play offs - it's still a long way to go to actually get promoted. On the other hand it would be disatstrous if he went this late in the transfer window. If he really wanted to go he probably would have known about interset in the end of december and he would/should have talked to Eriksson early.

Then surely he does not deserve a new deal? Just because he has a couple of good months? Especially if he becomes inconsistent again.
drc Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Then surely he does not deserve a new deal? Just because he has a couple of good months? Especially if he becomes inconsistent again. Stringer asked Sven about that after the game. Sven said yes if he continue playing like this. So Sven basically said if he continues like this maybe he'll get a contract reward but not just for the sake of it.
okie fox Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Then surely he does not deserve a new deal? Just because he has a couple of good months? Especially if he becomes inconsistent again. Why would he become inconsistent again? Sven has allowed him to play with more freedom so he has blossomed this season.
Babylon Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 'Ian Holloway is in the process of tabling a substantial bid for Leicester midfielderRichie Wellens after accepting defeat in his fight to keep Charlie Adam at the seaside' source- The Press Association The only place I can see this mentioned is on Bentleys, which is where you probably got it from. Now, for all we know "LASHINGtheLAMB" who started it is on a wind up.
topharry123 Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 I think we need to offer him a new deal fast. For me he's been the rock of this team since he joined and granted he was a little inconsistent at first, but he's blossomed into a great player for us and is integral to our team. There is noone we could bring in now to do his job between now and the end of the season. We need to pull out all the stops to keep him. Personally, I'd rather us spend the money on his wages than on a new player. Could be some truth in this rumor but hopefully he'll stay with us and keep us going in the right direction!
The Doctor Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 As end last year it was rumoured Wellens handed in a transfer request, i wouldn't think he would say this is a nono to moving there really. Hope it not true they want him. aye but that was with sousa where squad harmony was most likely at it's lowest point quite a while. Also that was just a rumour - don't think anyone ever confirmed it to be true did they?
stever Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 if it's true, i hope holloway is prepared to pay a fair whack and not offer us peanuts like he did for dj! not that i want wellens to go, i don't. he's probably our most important player - just hate how holloway tried to get players on the cheap, now when teams are sniffing around his players he wants stupid amounts of money! Isn't that what all managers do though? Hope RW stays but could the attraction of prem football be too much to ressist?
ScouseFox Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 My views haven't changed since the Burmingham story. I really wouldn't want to sell him, and the only reason he'd go would be for Prem football, which I assume he, and the rest of the squad still think is acheivable for us this year. Not sure on it really, but wouldn't wish it to happen, unless they go mental and offer us all their Adam money.
harpendenfox Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Yes he has played well of late, but no one is indispensable. If he were to go because Blackpool or anyone else makes us an absurd offer, and if he wants to go, then so be it. Play Yuki and King in front of the back 4, and give Gallagher licence to roam the middle of the park, releasing the Yak, Darius and Lloyd. It would however mean we need another midfield player to come in before the end of January, but I'm almost certain that will happen anyway
Jackirius Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Don't go to the Tinpot Richie, Someone needs to make a new video to persuade him to stay, the last ones did the job.
Callabinho Posted 24 January 2011 Posted 24 January 2011 Sven will not him go unless he has a worthy replacement.
