AdamN Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 Good player to have in the squad. We can do better for the starting 11 though? He's not THAT good is he? I think that's probably the main issue here. There are better strikers we could realistically get, who won't get people's backs up if they sign. Seems a bit pointless signing such a controversial character, who's likely to cause a rift between the fans (judging by the reactions on here), when we could more than likely just sign a better player and a 'safer' option.
Karljohn Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 This would be a more fitting song for King And what a scummy man Just give him half a chance I bet he'll rob you if he can Can see it in his eyes, yeah That he's got a driving ban Amongst some other offences And I've seen him with girls of the night And he told Roxanne to put on her red light They're all infected but he'll be alright Cause he's a scumbag, don't you know I said he's a scumbag, don't you know!
stockyfox Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 I do think that there are two issues that need to be clearly separated: Marlon King may be regarded as the kind of player fans would like to see in their team and if that was the only consideration, I would not object to him coming to Leicester. But regretfully, that is not the only issue. Away from football, he has made other people's lives a misery and not just one person but several on numerous occasions. If he should come to Leicester then I would expect to hear our fans treat him in the same way as we did with Joe Mattock when we played Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. So every time he touched the ball, we would hear the chant 'He only hates women' repeated ad infinitum. And if he should get injured, then he would be cheered or more like jeered off the field, as was Joe Mattock. Now, I would hope that fans are not going to say that, because he's wearing a Leicester shirt, and Joe Mattock wasn't, we are going to overlook and even forget his 'misdemeanours' because if they do then that is to my mind, nothing less than pure hypocrisy.

As you say, this isn't about Marlon King the footballer. It's about what he represents and what our club represents in potentially offering him a stage or anyone else like him for that matter. My reaction is not about never giving someone another chance or refusing to exercise forgiveness to someone who might benefit from it and live a better life. It is about setting standards and expecting them to be maintained. And, to me, showing respect for women is one of the standards I think worth upholding. I don't want to berate him, sing scornful songs about him or anything else. I just don't want anything to do with him at all, much less to pay for the so-called privilege of watching him play football. I'd sooner watch Academy games or not bother watching at all.
Finnegan Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 Shit. It is going to seriously reduce my enjoyment of our promotion season if this **** is playing for us. Ahh yeah right your a "WUM", someone who spends their time posting rubbish to get a reaction from people on the internet, oh what fun that must be. Well done you

I think everyones problem with mattock is how he didn't respect the club or fans, when he was leaving for west brom, Then when he hit that woman, that just added fuel to the fire!! We all no king won't get half the shit mattock has received, and to be fair I hold my hands up I will be one off the hypocrites if king signs!!
Itsthejoeker Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 Your the idiot for taking that comment serious. The sarcasm was so clear in you tone of writing...

Buggsteam Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 Afaik he just punched her and had to go on the sex offenders register as part of his punishment. You don't go on the sex register for just punching a woman. The thing with king is, he's a very talented player but can't control his social life so how can he expect any one to respect him. He may have served his time but doesn't mean he has any remorse for his victims. Sorry don't want any one like that representing our club. Let the chavs keep him.
Callabinho Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 I think it's safe to say this is a name amongst many! If we succeed in the signings of yak and kamara he will not be coming.
stockyfox Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 To those who would happily welcome Marlon King to Leicester, have any of you stopped to think how our womenfolk fans might feel - our wives, girlfriends, daughters. Or do we have any ladies on this board who would have no objection to his presence in the team? Would you really expect them to cheer if he scored a goal? Would you be rather surprised if they didn't enthuse about him as much as you might? Are you so chauvanistic that you don't really care about their feelings? I'd like to think that Leicester City Football Club is gradually returning to be a Family Club with family values. There are plenty of fish in the sea and I would prefer to have a Salmon and not a Shark. Yes, I want LCFC to be in the PL but not by selling its soul. Over 60 years of following the City, I have so many cherished memories of respected players who have led the line - Derek Hines, Willie Gardiner, Jimmy Walsh, Ken Leek, Ken Keyworth, Derek Dougan, Frank Large, Andy Lochhead,, Ally Brown, Alan Birchenall, Frank Worthington, Alan Young, Alan Smith, Mike Newell, David Oldfield, Tommy Wright, Bobby Davison, Ian Ormandroyd, David Speedie, Mark Draper, Iwan Roberts, Emile Heskey, Ian Marshall, Steve Claridge, Brian Deane, Jamie Scowcroft, Dion Dublin and Paul Dickov. That is a formidable list, most of whom if not all, have passed into Foxes folklore. I'm sorry but in my opinion, Marlon King is not in the same town, let alone the same street as any in that list!

Stevosevic Posted 15 May 2011 Posted 15 May 2011 He hit a woman, big deal, they want to be treated as equals yet they can hit us but we can't hit them? What's all that about?
