Sly Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 I'm sure we have more targets than Maynard, Evans, CMS etc etc. I'd like to think this deal, for the money involved is closed. They'll be pleanty of fringe players become available once Premier League clubs register squads. Who knows, we may end up with a young striker from a club with a point to prove. Some like Vela, Pacheco or Macheda.

It would be nice, but I fully expect a few loan signings to come in once the Prem season starts and players find themselves out of the first team or on the fringes. Maynard is a good player, but surely not wirth the money that is apparently being banded around.
DorsetFox9 Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Bert: you agreed yesterday with someone saying they were expecting a big bid for Maynard soon. was this your views. or your inside knowledge? me personally, i hope we pull all the stops out to sign him, imo his goals out of nothing could be the difference come the end of the season.
Jon the Hat Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Exactly. Everyone is expecting us to have all signings done and dusted by now. Maynard is a good player, but surely not wirth the money that is apparently being banded around. I expect us to have a team together in the next week or two, and a sqaud that fills out until the end of August. You are right that most of the Premiership loans are not going to happen this early.
Right Back Atyeo Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Huge difference between 'we do not want to' and 'we will not'. Not saying its going to happen, just pointing out your argument is flawed. Fair enough. To be honest I can't remember whether he said "We don't want to" or "We won't". Either way he is going to look a complete tosser if NM ends up at a Championship rival. I would therefore suggest that it is going to take stupid money for that to happen, otherwise he wouldn't have said anything.

Obviously it's a huge thread so I don't particularly fancy going through it again, but there was a marked change in the wording of the statements coming from your chairman. For quite some time, the message was 'we won't sell' and around the time of the second bid this changed to 'we don't wish to.' A very significant change I'm sure you'll agree.

More than £5m IS stupid money for a relatively unproven Championship striker with one year left on his contract!
Stevosevic Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 I have decided that i don't care how much we pay, i really wan't to see him in a Leicester shirt next season.
cc_star Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 More than £5m IS stupid money for a relatively unproven Championship striker with one year left on his contract! Yes it is, but it's small fry compared to the £90m we'd have a far better chance of obtaining if we get him. Connor Wickham fee rising to £13m has changed the landscape, if we don't pay, we don't get, and now Everton have wiped our £3.5m offer for Yakubu off the table & we missed out/didn't want CMS all of our eggs seem to be in this one basket as Sven is interested in building a Championship team as opposed to a team of individuals that didn't work out last season. Also, Maynard's young so there will be a resale value
DorsetFox9 Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 I have decided that i don't care how much we pay, i really wan't to see him in a Leicester shirt next season. What he said.

Sven has said he's not going down the loan route this season, sure I'd expect 1 maybe 2 before deadline or maybe he'll save them till January, but it certainly didn't sound like we'd have 5 every game again
Number 6 Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Can't see this happening. Which is gutting because I feel he was a big part of Sven's plans and the fact we've gone in big money-wise shows that we really want him.
Right Back Atyeo Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 More than £5m IS stupid money for a relatively unproven Championship striker with one year left on his contract! Although I don't want to see Nicky go to a Championship rival (no offence, but especially you lot as some of your more arrogant fans seem to think it's 'a done deal' with a 'tinpot little club'), I actually will be far from crying into my beer if he does leave. No denying the quality of the boy, I would say that he is a long way from 'unproven' in the Championship. He will score 20+, but barring injury so will Brett Pitman IMO, and if the money can sort us out 2 or 3 defenders I think we will be in a far better position.

If BCFC do cave in and sell him after saying NO, NEVER and Maynard agrees the move does that make you a TIN POT LITTLE CLUB run by a group of liars after all? (no offense to the fans who I think are great).
dpjfox Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 With the type of money talked about it seems strange to me that svens "people" didnt discuss this deal off the record with Maynards "people"prior to making official huge bids, or maybe they did and Leicester are being used to tempt interest from a prem club, id be now tempted to re-open Yak negotiations (may be worth paying him what he wants to come here)

Carlos9 Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 I wouldn't say so, I'd say they'd have played their hand very, very strongly IMO they are hoping for other teams to come in for him with bigger and better offers. If this doesnt happen they will regret saying no and come January if he doesnt sign a new contract they will be the ones getting intouch with us "I know we turned down your over the top offer but we would like the money now" This could go well for Bristol if some other teams jump on the Maynard bandwagon, but on the other hand it could go so wrong! They are not very likely to push for promotion and don't look like being in a relegation battle, whats there problem? If they are looking to build a team capable of challenging for the prem, there leaving it late!

It doesn't make sense using us to tempt a prem club, because the price keeps on getting higher? Therefore putting the likely clubs to bid for him (Wigan, Everton, etc...) out of the picture because they can't afford the silly money being banded about.
MONreborn Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 He's in Portugal with the Bristol city team a friend is out there too will try and ask him whether he's up for coming to city.

I'm sure they dont care who they sell him too. They just want top ding. We should tell them to fvck off and look elsewhere. Hopefully Maynard then doesn't agree a new deal and could perhaps pick up him on the cheap in Jan however unlikely that might be.
