Sly Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 I like how they've been linked to Harry Worley at the bottom of that article.
bald reynard Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Is he that good? He's better than a load of other names being linked - as alternatives to Maynard - Ched Evans, Matt Derbyshire etc. He's got a great goalscoring record in the Championship - only missed out in two seasons at Sheffield United (when he was apparently very unhappy with the management approach there then) - shed loads for Scunny and Donnie. Doncaster have been reported as accepting a bid (from Southampton) of around £3m at the end of last season - but he (then) wanted to see if there was any Premiership interest. That hasn't materialised. I think a City bid now of the same, could well get him. PS He certainly has a better scoring record in the Championship than the Yak - and a much better 'attitude' ! He's got to be up there as an option for Sven - rather than the 'portly' man from Nigeria !

Carlos9 Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 No one has said anything official about this in a while. Maybe it is done and dusted now? Time to move on! Though i would like him, i don't think we will now. Sven needs to find a striker to take part in preseason as it is a massive part of building a squad for promotion!

bcfc1897 Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Cheers. It strikes me they are doing what that can to dampen the flames of the story, trying to get people to move on. We'll see. I'm sure we all want it resolved one way or another as quick as possible though. Agreed. Maynard gave an interview last night where did a good job of more or less saying nothing about this situation other than everything will be sorted soon hopefully. He did say that Sexstone and Dawes were in talks with his agent while he was away, but that's to be expected. One interesting thing he did say is that his injury will take 18 months to heal properly and he can't do double training sessions like the other players in pre-season. That's never been mentioned before as far as I know and it's hardly encouraging news for us or you. He said he's still feeling the injury as well, "good days and bad days". For what it's worth, I think it will be sorted out today or tomorrow as the talks have gone on for long enough and both clubs need to move on as the clock is ticking. We're now close to sign or leave.
bald reynard Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Eh? Maybe because Yakubu has spent most of his career in the top flight. What an odd thing to say. OK - but the Yak has only scored 1 in 3 at Premiership level (79 goals in 222 appearances) - I wouldn't call that great - and his record at Championship level is not wonderful (18 goals in 34 appearances, for Portsmouth and us). More importantly, it's his attitude and style of play - as highlighted by Sven himself (in his Foxes Player interview yesterday). It's all opinions - but I'd rather have Sharp on less than £30 grand a week than the Yak on £40,000.

If sharp's record is better at Championship level then that's damn impressive. AFAIC Yak had his chance to play for us but wanted too much money. I hope that sort of greed bites him on the butt. we're right to look elsewhere. that doesn't stop us going back and eating humble pie if he ends up being the best option we can get.
sdb Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 I'd rather we try Waghorn and Schlupp as Nugent's back up than buy most of the players we've being linked with. Players always seem to be better when they play for another team. If we can't get the right player (which is exactly what Maynard is), then we shouldn't sign a much worse alternative for the sake of it.

A goal every 2.88 games in the prem' and a goal every 1.88 games in the champ' are bloody amazing figures. Fair enough you don't like his style, but lets not pretend his goalscoring is anything other than bloody fantastic.
Bezzanator89 Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 http://www.footie-online.co.uk/2011/07/sven-concedes-defeat-in-maynard-attempt/2381/ Sven Goran Eriksson the Leicester City manager, has finally conceded defeat in his bid to sign Nicky Maynard from Bristol City, according to reports from the Bristol Evening Post.Maynard has been the subject of several bids from the former England manager, who saw Maynard as the ideal person to lead Leicester’s anticipated charge for promotion next season. Bristol City have confirmed that over the past few weeks they have received official approaches from an unidentified Championship club believed to be Leicester for Nicky Maynard. All such bids were rejected out of hand by City, who have stated that they want to keep their record signing. Maynard who arrived at Ashton Gate in 2008 for a club record fee of £2.25 million from Crewe, has only a year left to run on his current four year deal at the club. A new contract offer has been on the table for Maynard to sign since May, but so far it appears both club and the player are no closer to coming to an agreement. A club insider at Leicester told the BEP: “We felt we made a very favourable offer for Nicky Maynard and were surprised when it was turned down. Bristol City have made their position clear and it is time to move on and look elsewhere.” This news will come as a relief to Bristol City fans who are still hopeful that Maynard will commit his immediate future to the club and sign a new deal. In an interview with Bristol City’s press officer last night after the friendly defeat against Charlton, Maynard did not give anything away regarding his future. However Bristol City chairman Colin Sextone is still confident that Maynard will in the next couple of weeks sign the new contract on offer. If this be true then that is the end of that unless Maynard does the increasingly unlikely option and hand in a transfer request. Comments anyone?

Comments anyone? If the club are refusing all offers then he isn't an option. I'm glad we've stopped the chase. Now Maynard has to decide what he wants. If he wants out we then make our first offer again - not our last.
Guest Bilo Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Pretty much copies the same article even the Brizzle fans are doubting.

IF you exclude his 2 seasons (back) at Sheffield United - which, I accept, is a bit of a big 'if' (though, as I explained, there were reasons for this) - his goalscoring record in the Championship is the same as Yakubu's - roughly 1 in 2 (30 goals in 62 games). His record in League 1 is 53 goals in 82 matches.

lestajigs Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Let's move on then, this has dragged on far to long!!!?!
