Kent Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 If those reports are true and the figure goes to 3-4m after 20 goals for example then I don't think it's definitely going to be turned down. It will give them something to think about anyway.
tylesta Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 That bid will be turned down. I hope we are prepared to up it. why would they turn it down? if the deal works out to 4m i think they would sell, instead of taking the gamble of him leaving on a free in 12 months or even cheaper in january?? great thinking by city!

EDIT if i was a manager and it was january i would try a sneaky 3m bid for maynard
Liamlcfc1 Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 From the Merc Leicester City may abandon their bid to sign Yakubu as they grow increasingly frustrated at the Nigerian striker's reluctance to commit to a transfer.City have agreed a fee with Premier League club Everton for the 28-year-old, believed to be around £3million. However, Yakubu is stalling over the offer because he is reluctant to drop down permanently into the Championship. City are now considering whether to proceed with their attempts to sign him or switch the funds to other areas of their squad rebuilding this summer. Everton manager David Moyes is eager to off-load his former record signing, along with fellow Nigerian Joseph Yobo, in order to finance a move for winger Charles N'Zogbia from Wigan. After scoring 11 goals in 20 appearances while on loan with City last season, and after missing out on Marlon King, who is a similar style of striker, City were set to proceed with the deal for Yakubu. But his stalling as he waits for other offers has given City time to re-examine their options. Turkish side Fenerbahce are now said to be the front runners for Yakubu's signature, but City may still decide to try to make the player commit. City have plenty of other striking options, with a bid for Bristol City's Nicky Maynard imminent and talks with free agent David Nugent proceeding. However, negotiations with Nugent's representatives are not as advanced as has been reported elsewhere. The former Portsmouth and England striker has not yet committed himself to City and is still considering other options. It is believed another former loanee, Diomansy Kamara, is no longer on City's radar. After missing out on Jeffrey Bruma, who has joined Hamburg on a two-year loan deal, City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is still hopeful of bringing back former loanees Ben Mee, from Manchester City, and Patrick Van Aanholt, from Chelsea. City have confirmed that defender Michael Lamey has left the club by mutual consent and is expected to complete his move to Polish side Wisla Krakow. I think this is now known as the Yakubu saga
Callabinho Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Reports say that Nolan has signed for £3.5 million and his wage exceeds £30K, hopefully that will proove you must gamble if you want to catch up. I've got a gut feeling that if we don't cough up, Yak will join West Ham.
whitlock Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 My feeling is that this 'saga' is over with. If he wanted to he would of signed, we all know that the clubs have agreed a fee but it is stalling on Yakubu's behalf. Would of been a decent acqusition (sp) but its also good to see the club hopefully not just throwing money about and giving in to agent/player wage demands!
Narborough_fox Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Dead and buried. Move on and find a suitable replacement and wait for him to score a last minute winner against us for West Ham.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 I've forgotten about him now. Maynard to replace him, he's better anyway. & Nugent at 26 on a free. I'd much rather be going for proven Championship players than Prem drop outs/rejects.
DB11 Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 It's like FM where the agent's a cock, and are asking for more than the board will give them. You try and lower it, but they don't budge. The player's status is 'Interested' but the goddamn agent just gets in the way.
Wymsey Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 I do doubt it'll happen now, tbh. Its taken too much time so far.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 if he is unwilling to drop into this league then it aint goona happen
Nick Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=73705&st=0
Adster Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 I think I'd prefer Maynard, in terms of wages being considerably lower, he'd of came from a worse team than us (with all due respect), wanting to prove himself to get recognition. Not just for the pay packet.
tetly Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 The more this drags on the less I want him to sign. Have to agree with this, good player but we need commited hungry players. I think he would be a great player at this level but his days as a top player are behind him. His fee, wages and lazy attertude make it a bit of a gamble. I think we could get a couple of good players with the money it would cost to buy him.
Number 6 Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 I feel we may have to take risks elsewhere. The best thing about the Yak was that he knew the club and had scored 11 in 20 in the Championship, evidence that he could have a successful season. Doesn't mean we can't find as good/ better elsewhere and it's nice to see us not being held to ransom.
Bilbo Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 But he said he'd be happy to play for us in the championship. Now he doesn't. If you're a footballer, you need to back up what you say. If it doesn't get through, he'll have let a lot of people down. I totally agree Bert mate, if the issue is now about him not wanting to play in the Championship he shouldn't have even suggested signing for us. However for a player as good as Yakubu I think it's a big ask dropping down a league and taking a significant pay cut. As much as I wish he'd sign for us because he loves us!

He doesn't love our club or our fans. If he did he wouldn't be taking the piss saying he doesn't want to play in the Championship. Hes messed the club about, I'd rather we moved on now. If he holds us to random and we pay the extra say 20k a week wages, every other football will do the same.

stivesfox Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 Lip service, total liar he had no intentions of coming to Leicester City I remember going lcfc v Portsmouth game year we were relegated and Birch asked them if they be staying to fight and get the club up, usual footballers lies I love the club I be here next season, next season comes and there gone! With exception of Muzzy loyal to the end! Yakubu had no intention coming to Leicester they could offer him 100k he wouldn't come back! You love a club you push the transfer you have a desire to play and get your club to their goal! Waited too long **** him off

Waited too long **** him off I think there is an agent somewhere who is telling him to hold off because Yakubu ( and not so coincidentally the agent) can get more money elsewhere.... got to love those agents.

CKB Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 This "Yakubu Newspaper Saga" is getting tiresome now.. Until i hear pure concrete news that he won't be coming (ie he's joined someone else or Sven rules it out) i am still going to say this deal is just taking it's time to be finalised and he will be joining us..
