Thracian Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Yak's big problem is not scoring the 20 goals a season we need from him but closing the opposition down when we've lost the ball. But Nugent can do that, no trouble. In an ideal world Yakubu wouldn't be my first choice but we're a long, long way from an ideal world and the games are disappearing fast. With Nugent, Yakubu, King, Vassel's return, Dyer, Wellens and, perhaps some faith being shown in Schlupp, we'd at least have the basis of a fairly fast, potent and creative attack. If Tunchev comes back into central defence to join Bamba and Kaspar then we'd have the start of somehing worthwhile even if there'd still be a need for two full-backs. and a dominant fulcrum midfielder - unless we've actually got one who's not been seen yet. Could Danns perhaps be converted to a right back and might Schlupp be the energy and impact we need from left back if he can't grab a striker role just yet? Gareth Bale has been a massive weapon for Spurs, supporting so many fast attacks, but he was a favourite as a Southampton youngster before ever he fully developed the role.
cc_star Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 It's not that simple - Yakubu might not want to come back, the owners might not be willing to stump up possible wage demands etc. they're not, that's the reason he's not already here months ago Perhaps they could stomach it for a season long loan, and not be stuck with his wages for 3 years should we not go up (looking a tad more likely than it did 2 weeks ago) But a loan move doesn't help Everton get funds in for new signings, it just frees up his wages for a year, enabling them to only sign someone for a year - something they may not be keen on, as with each passing year Yak will be worth less
m00nie Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 BertLcfc LcfcInfoMan The yak could soon be making a return to #lcfc on loan, him and Roque Santa Cruz are the two names being banded about.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Just loan him for a season again! he will get 20+ goals
Walshy5 Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 BertLcfc LcfcInfoMan The yak could soon be making a return to #lcfc on loan, him and Roque Santa Cruz are the two names being banded about. Is this actually our bert does anyone know?
Libertine Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Yak + a waiter to feed him and we're alright. He scores goals but even Yak wouldn't have been a help last night, nowhere near enough creativity. Wouldn't have been my first choice this summer but we're not going to do better, as long as we set the team up right around him he'll do well.
Callabinho Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 If he signs We've got that lad from Everton the yak the yak, he took his time but know he's signed the yak the yak, with his left and with his right, he is ****in Dina-might who needs Maynard we've got yakubu nananananannanananananana
Dez Rez Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 I have been saying SIGN THE YAK for ages now. Forget about some of the other targets, which are too numerous to mention. He wouldn't need too much time to settle as he already knows the club, manager, players and area etc. I believe, it's a no brainer to be honest. We need a striker who can score and give the opposition defenders problems, which I believe Yakubu proved last season with 11 goals in 20 appearances. Even when the big man from Nigeria doesn't score he holds up play and keeps the ball extremely well. On his day, THE YAK can be devastating and almost unplayable for the opposition.
Ric Flair Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Yakubu WILL save our season, him and Nugent would be stunning. We need a winger as well for 4-4-2.
Ricey Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Yakubu isn't the answer, not if we stick with the current formation. I'd only want him alongside a pacey to run off him, which we don't have.
blueblood88 Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Yakubu isn't the answer, not if we stick with the current formation. I'd only want him alongside a pacey to run off him, which we don't have. Who, in your opinion IS the answer then? Yakubu scored 11 goals in 20 games for us last season FFS! As for pacey players, Nugent is quick, Vassel is quick, Dyer is quick, so I don't know where you have come to the conclusion that we don't have any pacey players in our team?

You're probably right, but Nugent can play left wing. Maybe a front 3 of Nugent, Yakubu (or someone similar), Vassell would be good?
cc_star Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Feed the Yak & he will score In our 3 games this season added together we've created about as many chances as we did in one half last season. Something else needs to change. A new forward alone isn't the answer when the 'mix' behind them is disjointed rubbish.
Jollie Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 You're probably right, but Nugent can play left wing. Maybe a front 3 of Nugent, Yakubu (or someone similar), Vassell would be good? Yak and Jimmy Kebe and we would be in the premiership before you could say 'Schmeical'

Joe. Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Yep. There's so much emphasis on a new striker, but the real issues are with wingers. We do obviously need another face up front at least, but the fact Lloyd Dyer is our only recognised true winger should ring so many alarm bells.
Ricey Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Who, in your opinion IS the answer then? Yakubu scored 11 goals in 20 games for us last season FFS! Yakubu scored 11 goals, but mainly towards the end of the season when the pressure was off. When we needed him he was lazy, slow and missed a lot of good chances. I just don't think he offers enough to the team or that he's going to score the goals to earn promotion.
Ricey Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Nugent is like shit off a shovel when he gets going. True, but he doesn't make enough off the ball runs. The last 2 games we've been very static upfront, we need someone with energy who'll give players like Wellens some options.

That's total crap mate nugent makes a lot of runs but is isolated because he is playing as a lone striker. We only ever have one option going forward and that's nugent these two defeats are down to the manager no individuals the formation Sven wants to play only works if you have attacking full backs and Pacey wingers neither of which we Have we either have to bring in more players or go 4-4-2 which we should be playing until those players arrive ie strikers and wingers.

I would've thought Dyer, Vassell, Schlupp and Waghorn are all 'energetic' players
Jollie Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 What about Carlos Vella and Miachi? On loan obviously
Bettsy82 Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 I would've thought Dyer, Vassell, Schlupp and Waghorn are all 'energetic' players Yes all Pacey players but vassell is the only one who has any ability out of the three senior players and schlupp is too young at the minute.
