What about Carlos Vella and Miachi?

Vela's already gone to Real Socieded on loan and Ryo will be part of Wenger's first-team squad this season.

Agree completely, although we have a few reasonably quick players the more immediate worry is a lack of quality. Yak brings quality at this level, 11 in 20 with a bunch of players he'd never played with previously shows that. For me, its a no brainer and we should bite the bullet financially and get him in

I've said this before several times in this thread, but for the benefit of new readers, it needs repeating.

Yakubu was a flat-track bully, who shone against weak or unmotivated opponents (hence his goals), but too often went missing against stronger and/or more motivated ones. I'm not convinced he's the team player we need.

He was he opposite against qpr, the only thing that stopped him from scoring was paddy kenny, made three world class saves.

Well we're struggling against the weaker teams as well at the minute. I'd take a player who will score at a rate of 1 every 2 games even if he bludgeons the crap teams because at least we'll win our fair share of matches. Alongside Nugent, a worker and a runner I could see it being effective.

nice to see that lardy git have 4 put past him on saturday- the exercise of fishing the ball out of the net will do him good - more of the same please

Yes but when he's standing on the edge of the area with that dis-interested look on his face and hands on his hips you will all be on he calling him a "lazy C**T"!

Yakubu is lazy, yes, but thats just his game and we have to accept that. I had no problems with his work rate last season because he scored goals. Nugent does enough running for himself and Yakubu.

442 with Yak and Nuge up front - I'd be well happy with that.

I wouldnt. Unless we brought in 2 wingers to replace Dyer and Gallagher. Either that or play the diamond formation but then we lack witdth without 2 attacking fullbacks. Thats the problem when you have 7 central midfielders and hardly any wide players. Sven has gone for depth before improving the starting 11 when surely it should be the other way around!

I think people overlook the importance of the Yak's ass.

Defenders are instantly at a disadvantage because they have to run a couple of yards round it before they can even see the ball. Watch how he uses it as a defensive buffer and an offensive battering ram in games. One ref even gave a free-kick against the Yak and pointed at his ass as a reason.

Last year the Yak's massive, great behind was an ass-et to us.

I see your point, I imagined using the diamond but it is too narrow.

433 with Yak central and Nugent and Vaz either side would work as well though.

Play the system and see if it is 'too narrow' . You may find out that actually putting players in their preferred positions may improve our performances.

Part of me does not want to comment on this being as we are just all writing drivel and taking up almost 100 pages but I really cannot believe anyone would not want him. Of all the strikers we have been linked with over the summer Yakubu would be my first choice. He is a phenomenal finisher. He appears lazy at times but that is because he has the quality to not need to run round like a twot all time. Are you serious suggesting that Waghorn would run around like he did if he didn't need to? Don't get me wrong I love a bit of passion too. The days of seeing Walshie, Elliott and Taggart literally destroying people still gives me shivers but not every player is like that. The stats speak for themselves, in terms of goals to games ratio the Yak is not far from the likes of Henry in the top flight. He is the definition of "a proven goalscorer" and I cannot think of a safer bet for a 20 goal a season man.

Don't know if it will happen but just annoys me to see people slag him off.

Anyway, sorry for my rambling self-righteousness.

Rumble.

Possibly the gayest post ever on FoxesTalk...

Yes! We've got so many central midfielders, and so few good proper wingers, a narrow 4-1-2-1-2 would suit our squad perfectly. There are slight variations on this that I think would also work, like 4-1-3-2 or 4-3-1-2. We'd be making use of the huge number of CMs we have, and we'd have two up front! Nugent wouldn't be so isolated, and he wouldn't have to work so damn hard. He's going to need a rest soon at this rate.

It's certainly worth a try, at least until we sign one or two good wingers. It worked pretty well for Norwich last season, and like you say, we wouldn't have to shoehorn players into unfamiliar positions.
