bluearmyfox23 Posted 25 August 2011 Posted 25 August 2011 Maybe yak is the big name prem striker he's available for 4m ?
topharry123 Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Fourth Official seems to think Yak is done at Everton, and later posted that we're extremely close to signing a striker. Could it be Yak and could it get finished tomorrow? Here's hoping so!
Dan Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Thing is signs point to Yakubu coming here, but signs also point to Maynard. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Howard/Waghorn go, and both of these sign. Imagine a duo of Yakubu/Maynard, fvcking wow. Mind you, Nugent's been class too.

Nugent
dbtcity Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 It wouldn't matter how lazy the yak is with Maynard and nugent either side of him!!! Please make it happen Sven
thybluefox Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 A front 3 of Maynard. Yakubu. Nugent Ohhhhhhhhhfffffuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhh. Sorry, I'll clean that up
Jaspa Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 I'm not sure Maynard would want to be out on the wing tho More like (If dreams are true): ---Vassell ----------------Nugent -----Maynard------Yakubu------
One Arm Babba Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 A front 3 of Maynard. Yakubu. Nugent Spoooooge!
bluearmyfox23 Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 I'm not sure Maynard would want to be out on the wing tho More like (If dreams are true): ---Vassell ----------------Nugent -----Maynard------Yakubu------ This with fernandes and danns behind them
Maybes Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 I'm not sure Maynard would want to be out on the wing tho More like (If dreams are true): ---Vassell ----------------Nugent -----Maynard------Yakubu------ Calm down Holloway, with your 4 strikers!
Bagworthblue Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 2 players for each position is what Sven has targeted - That would suggest 4 strikers in a 4-4-2. With Howard and Waggy on the move, Kermo ditched and Crnc Crncic - oh that Ukranian (or was he??? oh you know who I mean) geezer having accidentally passed to an unknown parallel dimension....... We have Nugent, Vassell and Schlupp. I think he sees the latter as a bonus and won't want to put much pressure on him. My guess he'll be after 2 strikers, maybe 1 perm and 1 loan so you never know!!!
sdb Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 On paper that looks amazing, but so does: Danns, Wellens, Fernandes, King, Abe, or whatever. Basically I don't think the balance would be quite right, and 2 players would be playing out of position. Once Maynard comes in I say go all out for a winger. Gradel, Kebe or the like.
wolfgang amadeus Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Think I'd take Yakubu for a season over Maynard for £6m if I'm honest
Jaspa Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Think I'd take Yakubu for a season over Maynard for £6m if I'm honest I think you'd regret saying that in two years time.
thybluefox Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Think I'd take Yakubu for a season over Maynard for £6m if I'm honest Seriously? So then when he goes back next summer we're still left with no striker, and we go through all of this again?
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 I think you'd regret saying that in two years time. Probably not, just pick him up for free in the summer instead of wasting obsence amounts of money,
Kitchandro Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Last Wednesday Maynard didn't do anything special, he did a very simple thing all game which Yakubu never does. He moved off the ball. He moved away from defenders, made runs in behind, made himself available, making it easier for his teammates to pick him out and get out their own half (though they often failed to find him with some awful passes in the seond half). Look at Maynard's 3 goals already this season (in a poor team). Yakubu would never have scored those 3. He wouldn' t have the quick turn of pace and energy to score against Cardiff, he rarely shoots from outside the box as for Maynard's first against ours, and his 2nd against us, well he wouldn't have closed St Ledger down like that, and probably wouldn't have made it to the goal in any case. Maynard made those 3 goals for himself. That's why Maynard is worth £6m+, and Yakubu is worth £2m, or is available on loan. I would be very disappointed if we ended up with Yakubu instead.
wolfgang amadeus Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Seriously? So then when he goes back next summer we're still left with no striker, and we go through all of this again? I think we've got a better chance of going up with Yakubu than Maynard this season. The guy scored 11 goals in 20 games with new team mates, we have pace in Vassell and Nugent (and Schlupp to a certain extent), I want someone whos gonna be in and around the box.
SMX11 Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 I am the only one that thinks that a front three like that wouldn't work? Prefer two central strikers.

He wouldn't have the supply he had last season. He might actually have to do some thing's for himself, and he rarely likes doing that.

cambridgefox Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 IF this happened and we had Nugent,Yak and Nugent as an attacking force,i would shoot my bolt thrice fold, but is this me with spoilt kid syndrome wanting more and more. "Top i want a golden goose"
MGLCFC Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 It's hard to compare both strikers as they are very different - Yakubu is not lazy, but uses his energy where it matters, in the 18 yard box. He is a goal scorer, who does his most effective work close to goal. He does bring other players into the game. However, if you want a striker who is going to run the channels, win headers and work tirelessly for 90 minutes Yakubu is not your man. If you want a striker who will score goals, then Yakubu will do this. On the other hand, Maynard is far more fluid than Yakubu and has genuine pace. He has a good eye for goal and will score goals from outside the penalty area. At over 6 foot tall he is also useful in the air. He should also develop as a player, particular at a club where he is surrounded by quality players, where as Yakubu has reached his peak. Ideally, I would like both as they both offer something different.

He's 5'10" (a bit shorter than Nugent), good in the air but not great - about the same as the Yak - and not as good as Nugent.
