phillthefox Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 thing with davies was he came here thinking he was better than championship, and was putting himself in the shop window for prem move which he got, lets forget about him and concentrate on players who want to be here and play for our club........ heard vitors buy out clause is 15mill
ithuriel Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Premier quality talent with a conference quality attitude who just wants the cash and maybe is completely clueless as to why he warms the bench so much in the Prem.
Corky Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 I don't know whether we'd be a lot higher, don't think he stood out in our defence to any great level.
Scow Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 His first couple of games for us were superb; you only have to read back on posts at the time to see that. The problem with Davies is that while he has undoubted ability, his motivation to play for us seemed to dwindle as time went on. He appeared to be very much focussed on the January transfer window and maybe this played on his mind. After not playing regularly for well over a year, I suppose it was only natural for him to think about his future come the transfer window. However, I think his decision to move to Birmingham was a mistake - and that's not simply because he opted for them over us. He was always going to struggle to displace Dann or Johnson. Birmingham are a pragmatic team and both Dann and Johnson epitomise this. They're defenders who defend first; the same can't really be said of Davies. Strange transfer for both parties involved.
bigneville Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Vitor, Mee, Bruma > Davies. Not a chance. Davies was one the best defenders in the league when he was here. His problem was he knew he was too good for the Championship and almost felt like it was below him to enter the pitch at times. Towards the end of his time here he just didn't want to get injured I.E. pulling out of a tackle with Snodgrass on boxing day to allow him to score from that ridiculous angle. Terrible for us. Didnt play a single good game. Didn't go to Leeds away then? He was awesome that day. And that's just the first instance I recall.
okie fox Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Curtis Davies is very athletic, but prone to mistakes and lapses in concentration. His positioning and marking are not as good as Vitor's.
ajthefox Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 I remember seeing his first game and he was different class to what we've been used to. I think if we'd got him on a season long loan we may well have seen even more of the quality he has as opposed to what we actually saw towards the end of december but he went to birmingham and that's that. No point spending all our time wondering what if...
Dan Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Glad we avoided an attitude like his. We can get better in the summer anyway, he's injury prone and a parasite. Tears at people calling Bamba "shit" He's not shit, maybe dipped a little from early season but he's far from shit for me.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Looked good at the start for us, then poor towards the end when the transfer window was approaching. Heart was never in it for us, and was very overrated.
Mack Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 I am absolutely gob smacked by some of the comments on this thread. Not only is Davies a fantastic defender, his is a quality organiser of an entire back 4. He is exactly what we were missing from our back line during the final third of the season. I also think he made a mistake going to brum, but I would imagine that decision was a non football one.

I think it was completly the opposite. He wanted to be in the prem.
Kent Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 I think it was completly the opposite. He wanted to be in the prem. Depends on your definition of 'being in the prem'. I prefer the term 'sitting on the bench watching the prem'. I agree with Scow. The first home game for us he looked unbeatable. He was dominant in the air and a great all round defender. Performances slipped after the first couple but I think if he had committed his future to us then it wouldn't have happened.
Dames Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 On his day he's twice the defender of anyone at the club. Sadly he doesn't appear to have many of these days.
Iwan is a Welshman Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 He tweeted on the day of his move something along the lines of: "Sorry Leicester fans but permanent move was first priority." Read into that what you like. Can't blame him for wanting to try it at Birmingham, the lad was on the cusp of the England squad at one stage, so he probably fancied his chances of forcing his way into the side. Interesting what people say about his heart not being in it towards the transfer window. Hadn't looked at it like that before but it's a good explanation of why he started well then dropped off.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 Davies was a class above against Forest. Remember me and a few others saying Bamba would show his 'bomb scare' form sooner or later for us, and that's proven to be the case. Still got a sore bum-hole from Reading, i think. Catch a fair bit of Hibs and, whilst he's done better than than I expected for us, the dip in form was inevitable if you ever experienced his shenanigans north of the border.

The only way you can make that statement is with the knowledge of how events have turned out. Curtis wasnt able to do that. Do you REALLY think that was his thought when signing for Birmingham? I certainly dont think he was looking forward to warming a bench. Its pretty clear he wanted to play and probably thought he would too....
Kenners Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 Seems as though he's really enjoying his time there! thecurtisdavies Curtis Davies RT @karlB81: @thecurtisdavies just do it!! Run that extra mile tomorrow » there's only so far I can run on the touchline! LOL thecurtisdavies Curtis Davies RT @joshsparkes: keep a clean sheet Sunday and we stay up. Cup final for me sat can Poppies FC get a retweet» always a clean sheet on bench! thecurtisdavies Curtis Davies @ @Nicki_Bluenose not injured that's all I can really say.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke. Serves him right, I know I sound bitter but if he wasn't so greedy he could have become a top player with us. We're on the up, we've got exciting times ahead and he could have been a part of it.
ScouseFox Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 It'll be right funny if they go down. He'd be on a Championship team's bench next season.
MPH Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 It'll be right funny if they go down. He'd be on a Championship team's bench next season. Oh no doubt he will come crawling back to us as they will look to offload some players to balance the books...
sdb Posted 15 May 2011 Posted 15 May 2011 Not sure why he's moaning, he's been woeful for them when he's played. Would take him back tbh, good at this level.
Itsthejoeker Posted 15 May 2011 Posted 15 May 2011 i genuinely feel sorry for the lad, he made a mistake which cost him first time football. The grass isn't always greener on the other side?
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 15 May 2011 Posted 15 May 2011 He has a terrible attitude problem. The fella has some quality but I don't think he's ever gonna produce consistently. I never wanted him to sign on a perm because of his issues.
Samilktray Posted 15 May 2011 Posted 15 May 2011 I thought him going there was more to do with his agent?
MPH Posted 16 May 2011 Posted 16 May 2011 I thought him going there was more to do with his agent? He mentioned on twitter he was ' on his way to re-join the Sven revolution' Next thing we know he signed for them. Citing he couldnt turn down the opportunity. No doubt he meant the opportunity of playing in the prem.
