Don't think he's signed anyone so far that isn't out of a top/premier league (even if Bamba came from Scotland). At Man City it was all about big money signings (and decent ones at that). Most of the players we're linked to now are Prem. I know nothing of Smithies so can't comment.

I think he'll got for someone with a lot more experience I no hes played for England U16s 17s etc but hes still only 20. Would be great to have a really promising young keeper here but I think Sven will go for someone whos struggling at a prem club.

Like somebody else has already pointed out, Eriksson named Joe Hart Manchester City's No.1 in 2007. Hart was 20 at the time. We need competition for the goalkeeper's job, and Smithies fits the profile. 8 years Weale's junior, up-and-coming, highly talented and highly rated. Weale better watch out. And Weale better work on his shot-stopping skills.
