Guest ttfn Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Nugent's never been an out-and-out goalscorer. The 2 seasons in which he was at Preston and one of the stand out players in the division were characterised by either direct assists or his searing pace and good technique. That he added a goal every 3 games merely sweetened the deal. As others have said, this would be an excellent signing, but if we're serious about automatic, we can't rely on Nugent to fire us there. That said, if Yakubu signs too we could well have the best strike force this division has seen since Quinn/Phillips.
Corky Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 His record isn't that impressive but if he shows passion them I'm happy for him to sign.
Simo86 Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Think he's a cocky twat and never really rated him. Record speaks for itself Bury - 18 in 88 games. Which is roughly 1 in 5 Preston 33 in 94. Which is roughly 1 in 3 Portsmouth 16 in 78. Which is roughly 1 in 5 Burnley 6 in 30. Which is roughly 1 in 5 Much rather have Yakubu and as much as people are worrying about his wages, you don't know what they are so speculating 35k is all good and well, but that is speculating. He may well end up on 20k or even 25k which is what Nugent wants. I trust our owners with our finances. It's not like we've gone all Man City spending 200k a week and £40 million on every player. Yakubu over Nugent all day everyday. Also I am not condoning Yakubu on 40k a week thats stupid, but I'm just saying that you can't say you'd have Nugent over Yakubu when you have no idea what their wages are. You've just completely contradicted yourself there How can you complain about people speculating the Yak's wages and then go on to speculate yourself that Nugent wants 25k?
Adster Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Fourth_Official Fourth Official Leicester are leading the race to sign Pompey's David Nugent who is on a free transfer #LCFC #PCFC
mancunianfox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Fryatt has a better goal scoring record than Nugent. Just sayin'.
Babylon Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Fryatt has a better goal scoring record than Nugent. Just sayin'. Yeah, league one and premier... very comparable.
mancunianfox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Yeah, league one and premier... very comparable. Well that comment would imply that Nugent wasn't piss poor in the Premiership. I would have a guess that they would be equally as bad in the PL should MF ever get the opportunity.
One Arm Babba Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Arrhgggghhhhh FRYATT? WTF? Fryatt looks like a fat action man.... Just saying.
Brown Fox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 You've just completely contradicted yourself there How can you complain about people speculating the Yak's wages and then go on to speculate yourself that Nugent wants 25k? oh shit Well ok Nugent is supposedly on 25k and Yak is supposedly on 35k but in theory none of us can really say we want one over the other because of wages because in theory they might be on the same or Yak's might be lower. Does that make sense or am I just talking bollocks?

Guest shearfox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 he has been seen at Morrisons Certainly can't argue with photographic evidence like this.... He must be on his way to sign!!!
Babylon Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Well that comment would imply that Nugent wasn't piss poor in the Premiership. I would have a guess that they would be equally as bad in the PL should MF ever get the opportunity. No... it doesn't imply that at all. It implies that playing at premier level is a damn sight harder than playing in league one. Had Fryatt spent several years in the premier and Nugent several years in the lower divisions then he would also have a better scoring record. Their championship stats are probably comparable. The difference being (if he comes here) is that he'd want to play for us, Fryatt didn't in the end.
topharry123 Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Hmm, maybe as a second striker if we can get someone like the Yak to lead the line, but I would be very concerned if he were to to be our main striker for next season. He's not a bad player and will get a few, but have never been convinced that he is any better than a lot of strikers at this level. I think it was more that when he got his cap for England he was just enjoying a rich run of form, and the way he's played since is more like the real Nugent.
MPH Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 25k... did he sign that deal when they were in the prem? Im guessing/hoping/speculating that to be offered a new contracting starting out in the championship would be less than that.... He would fit in nicely into a front 3 on the left, can score goals from there too. pace and sort of kind of knows where the goal is ( 14 from a left of a 3 forward is not a bad return) pace to feed off the yak too if we get him.... that is of course if we get the yak too...
dannythefox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Nugents a good player hes like a howard but needs someone at the side of him thats going to score goals because he will struggle on his own. Him and the yak would be good though.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 NO Doesn't seem to have a very strong goals to games ratio Indeed. Not looked, but is it warped by his terrible return in the premier? In this division I'd guess it's not too shabby. No, he still is. Seriously. We already have strikers who can score 14 a season. Hell, we've got a midfielder who can do that! Nugent can bite my arse!
MGLCFC Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 YES He'd be the ideal partner to Yakubu He'll run all day, got pace, wins headers and will score 15 goals a season Front 3 Kamara Yakubu Nugent WOW
jonthefox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 we can do better. weve gone from heskey , yakubu and owen to friggin nugent.
MGLCFC Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Let's be real - Sven has never stated we would sign Owen - he only ever said Owen may be available if we were in the Premier League Heskey wants £60000 a week - well we ain't gonna pay that in the Championship Yakubu will come in a £3.5 million deal As I said Nugent is the foil Yakubu needs - someone with pace, height and good technique. who will chase down lost causes
filou Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 YES He'd be the ideal partner to Yakubu He'll run all day, got pace, wins headers and will score 15 goals a season Front 3 Kamara Yakubu Nugent WOW Pity we don't have any of the three !
MGLCFC Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 At the moment - you have to assume Sven is working on the pieces of the jigsaw
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Class Championship player, but IMO will need a decent targetman to pair him with - really hope we get Yakubu and him now. Pompey saying deal looking on for his move to City. Pompey Link
80footgiraffe Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Specualtion over tomorrow signing...any guesses? Yakubu or Nugent i think. Source: all over the net
