If any of Sunderland, Villa or Newcastle had replaced their manager with Ranieri would anyone on here feel a prediction of 18-20 was harsh?

Yeah I'd think it was absolutely ridiculous. He'd have been a massive improvement on the managers they each had last season and they all stayed up.

Not sure how anyone can argue that 14th flattered us given that we couldn't beat the likes of Hull, Burnley and West Brom at home.

We were abysmal for 75% of the season.

We should probably just pass on the season and go straight down, right? In fact, why bother getting out of bed in the morning?

Miserable ****.

The Mirror - *sigh*.

The only good thing about this idiot is that he's put up a picture.

Look forward to tweeting it back to him and reminding him of his predictions at the end of season.

Manchester City couldn't beat Burnley home or away - guess they should file for relegation and offer the space back to Hull? Individual results mean sweet **** all - not beating West Brom at home doesn't mean we're shit and doomed, any more than beating Man Utd at home means we should be title contenders. Over the course of the season we were good enough to get 14th, and even during the spell of poor results there were still good performances - Arsenal away and Tottenham at home in particular.

So the table was harsh on those that finished below us then, they deserved to finish above us did they?

Earth to you...they were worse than us.

Oh and the three teams you mentioned only beat us once in 6 games thanks to an own goal.

No wonder were frantically trying to sign some quality!

I love how being bottom for that long gets used against us rather than people paying any attention to us having BETTER FORM THAN ANYONE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE FOR TWO MONTHS.

14th flattered us. That is hilarious. Look for the three appalling sides directly below us last season for teams who were incredibly lucky to stay up and only did due to the shitness of others.

I'm surprised how few have tipped Newcastle to go down. They were abject, and I mean only marginally better than Derby 2007/08 bad for a lot of last season. Regularly thumped, 8 defeats in a row, the worst run in their history - granted, they have improved on Carver but they've brought in a manager who last year had a team top of the league in February and finished 8th. I wouldn't say they'll definitely go down by any means, but I'd not be one bit confident if I supported them. I'm surprised how few have said they'll go.

pretty sure they fit nicely into the villa/west brom/sunderland category of "they're will be three worse, somehow"

I don't understand that. They put him 18th but then include a good graph of his chance creation & assists which is higher than people above him.

Reading it, they seem to have ranked him lowly simply because his name is spelt like ****s. Top reasoning if you ask me.

If Villa had binned Sherwood I'd be putting on them to do better, but your questions a bit of a stupid one anyway: we were comfortably clear of relegation last season in the end, being down there was more a combination of a cruel fixture list and some bad luck than an actual lack of quality; Ranieri isn't going to take us that far backwards.

Those were the three clubs immediately beneath us. We finished a mere 3 points clear of Villa in 17th. I wouldn't call it a stupid question at all.

Just checking the comparative records of Dick Advocaat and Cloudy and there really isn't much in it. Cloudy was a disaster for Greece, Advocaat a disaster for Serbia. Other than that they generally do ok, not too different at least.

Then again I remember O'Neill's teams never getting any recognition beyond the general idea that they worked hard.

Clearly they don't like us very much, these journos.

Sean Dyche or Neil Lennon obviously. Good old fashioned British (Isles) managers.

Oh yes, I forgot. Sean Dyche was perfect for us, apparently.

As a matter of interest do we still have last seasons predictions by members of the press which could serve as a comparison?

Savage had us in 13th, John Cross predicted we'd go down, Merson said we'd go as our ground was too nice.

Think Mclaren will do enough to keep them safe, he's a decent man manager and will get the most out of them. Sunderland however I feel will be scraping all season at the bottom, I even think West Brom will struggle. Villa it could go either way.

The relevance there being? If they replaced their manager with Ranieri I'd still have them down to struggle, because Villa are a shower who've lost their 3 best players, Sunderland have been shite for years and Newcastle are a circus - but it'd have nothing to do with the manager - Newcastle could appoint Mourinho, I'd still have them as relegation battlers because the problem with them is the team aren't that great and the owner's selling every good aspect and not replacing it.

The relevance being the only reason we're predicted to struggle is Ranieri, just look at the press (and some of our own fans) reaction to his appointment. If Pearson were still here I guarantee those predictions would be entirely different.

i think west brom have been overlooked by many. pulis will really get stuck into them this season and they will play pathetic football but don't seem to have the nastiness stoke did, which is what saved stoke during his time there.
