Robbie Keane

West Ham would prob be favourites to sign him then. Was on loan there last season, doesn't have to move and was pretty popular there. Maybe the Sven factor can sway him?

We would probably pay more in wages for him I would imagine

Beckham pinging it onto the head of Adebayor, knocking it down for Keane to peel off the shoulder of the last man and slot it home.

Oh De Vries and Carl Cort, how I miss those days.

Honestly not sure about him....would prefer Maynard/Long.

Me too, if only because they'll have a higher resell value than a 31 year old. Not saying he's too old but for the cash I'd prefer someone who'll be more of an asset in say 2 years time.

Either of the three would be fine. I agree that Maynard and Long are better choices (both short- and long-term) but if beating West Ham to Keane's signature hurts the Hammers' chances at beating City for promotion, then so be it.

Maybe we are going for the younger option striker in Shane Long

True although I get the feeling West Ham are playing high risk with wages to get straight back up - even though they really can't afford it. They might bite the bullet and pay the big wages.

I'd rather they paid £8mill for Long and we got RK.

Resell?

I'd like to hope we're not a selling club anymore, we have money and don't need to sell to get by now.

Besides I reckon he'd score the goals to get us promoted therefore pay for himself in the money generated by promotion, so theres an investment in itself.

Yes he's 'older' but tbh Maynard worries me, certainly for the money we're supposedly bidding on him, Obviously Keane won't be cheap but just feel he's more of a sound investment as far as promotion is concerned.

hes a quality player on his day and pretty sure he'd do well for us in the Championship.

Altho...I'd certainly be surprised if he came down a level.

I wouldn't be to surprised he will still get selected for ROI

Of course we're still a selling club, only maybe Real and Barca aren't. The only difference with us now is we can afford to hold out for top dollar should a big club come sniffing. Part of our plan to break even financially will have to involve selling players.

Humm, interesting points being raised by everyone pretty much.

Main problem I see is that no one can argue that Sven is currently building a team. Most of his purchases have been younger players wanting to make the grade (with the exception of Konchesky and Pantsil, also ignoring free-agent Ball too). They're all players who have years left at the top of their game, where as I see Keane as pretty much on his way down now, and given a couple more seasons I can't see him playing in the Premiership.

This is why I'd prefer someone younger, no doubt that Keane could score goals though (although I'm not sure how well he'd suit a 433).

Still, in Sven we trust, and if he's worth it for a season to get us promoted, we'd then be in a better position to tempt a Maynard/Long type player away from their club anyway.

More Developements from the Journalist off spurs community

http://spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=76710&page=21

This is awkward to explain.

QUOTE “don’t like dealing with Tottenham not as easy as dealing with Wigan.”

Hutton, Jenas and Crouch deal for £15million is OFF (for now). Couldn’t agree fee with Tottenham and refused to pay Crouch and Jenas £40k per week. McLeish really wanted Jenas.

BUT Robbie Keane’s agent has since contacted Villa, trying to get him a deal. He told Villa that Tottenham will sell at cut price and he has permission to negotiate a deal. Keane will take pay cut but Villa prepared to offer higher wages than they were willing to for crouch and Jenas because of the price.

AGENT of Keane (unusual) went back to Tottenham with offer for Keane and Hutton for under £10million based on what agent had said and talks the two clubs had had earlier regarding Hutton. Tottenham considering offer.

McLeish back tonight/early morning but has already agreed the deal in principle. McLeish slightly unhappy he wanted transfers sorted by time he got back. I expect once he’s back it will sort it.

To be honest, I’ve never been so confused. The way both clubs are communicating is ridiculous. I’ve been told that at some point Bentley was mentioned to Tottenham but that’s a no go for McLeish. The only way I could summarise is that Tottenham and Villa are in communication and that I still expect to see a couple (who?) of Spurs players by the end of the week.

On a positive note; as I said last week. Diarra done.

Might be worth keeping tags on Arnold Oosterveer this week.

the one and only target this year is to get promoted..

sven had been building a strong experienced championship side.

if we get promotion this year it is most likely he will look at getting a premiership side to stay there and then progress..

with a strong defence and midfield that we now seem to have created a striker who can get us 20+ goals will just add to our chances of promotion.

it dont really matter how much keane will cost , its not our money, its not svens, and if promotion happens the money will be paid back and then some from the rewards.. his age isnt a factor eiher as robbie keane is a clever striker, he nows where the goal is and would still be able to score goals in this league eaisily.

to me it s a no brainer and would be rk > any shane long, maynard etc as he will do whats needed now in this season, not worried about the next season yet or what future worths will be of players...

This is a rumour forum just like all the others - none of it is fact and for anything to be true there has to be fact.

It was a pic of him at our ground watching Madrid, think it was posted in the wrong forum & someone took that to mean we were in for him

Bit of a contradiction to your previous posts.
