Vassell - sounded like an 11 on the radio

Schmeichel - 6 - Not his best performance, but he claimed a valuable clean sheet

Peltier - 8 - An excellent performance, attacking and defensively

Mills - 6 - Much improved and an assuring presence in defence, particularly when Pantsil came on

Bamba - 7 - Power and pace to keep Mackail-Smith at bay

Konchesky - 7 - Not his best performance in royal blue but hardly a bad one either

Wellens - 6 - Quietly capable in a holding role

Fernandes - 6 - Fitted well in this system and, like Wellens, proved his capability without bells and whistles

Abe - 8 - A superb return to the team for Abe, controlling the play well and not shy of attacking either. His goal was a just reward

King - 7 - Got forward well but not the dazzling display many have come to expect. Kept the ball well, though

Vassell - 9 - A near-complete performance marred only by his inaccurate finishing: the danger man

Beckford - 6 - Caused havoc in the Brighton defence but never really set the stadium alight

Pantsil - 4 - The only shaky part of the defence on the day

Schlupp - Not enough time to judge

Vassel and Peltier definitely worth plaudits, though they were both excellent today. 8s or 9s.

I thought Wellens was disappointing by his own standards, looked to be slowing the game down intentionally in the first half and I don't know if that was by instruction or instinct. Not his normal approach. We looked much better in the second half when, incidentally, he was much less involved. I'd give him a 6 at best.

Everyone else a seven bar the previously mentioned two, one of whom would be my man of the match today.

Schmeichel - 7.5 one or two bad kicks, other than that I can't fault him

Peltier - 7.5 got forward well, unlucky for his goal

Mills - 8 had a great game dominant in the air

Bamba - 8 Excellent pace and strength

Konchesky - 7.5 Solid game.

Wellens - 7.5 ditto

Fernandes - 7 good effort

Abe - 8 Extra half point for the goal. One of his better games all round.

King - 7.5 Kept the ball moving, nothing spectacular.

Vassell - 8.5 Worked hard, ran at 'em, held the ball up and an assist MOTM.

Beckford -7.5 Sometimes tried to take on too many, but you can see he's got goals in him.

Pantsil - 6

Kasper 6 - Little to do, great presence still.

Peltier 8 - Miles better than Pantsil, supported the attack well and should've had a goal.

Konchesky 7 - very solid, his best game yet.

Mills 7 - getting better with each game.

Bamba 8 - Colossol performance. Top class today.

Fernandes 6 - a silly booking, but still did his bit today.

Wellens 6 - not a great performance but still got us going a few times. Too many Hollywood balls when a better option was available.

Abe 7 - won a lot of second balls, scored and kept things simple.

King 7 - good in pushing forward and defended well when he had to.

Beckford 7 - you can see his class, he looks very sharp. A bit greedy at times though. Brighton were very scared of him else they wouldn't have tried kicking him every time he had the ball.

Vassell 9 - MOTM by a mile, ran his socks off, had defenders in a daze and made the goal.

Matt Mills - 10.

Amazing today.

Are you having a giraffe ?

His passing in the first half was possibly the worst I have ever seen at the King Power - however he is paid to defend and keep a clean sheet which he did so fair play to the lad

Bamba- 9 (None of the Bombscare Bamba today, Mackail-Smith barely got a look-in)

Mills- 7 (Much better, headed the ball firmly and looked safer)

I wasn't at the game but judging from the radio, the whole back 4 sounded excellent today (apart from Pantsil who came on later)

Also Vassell sounded very good as did Abe. Beckford had a decent home debut by all accounts. Fernandes sounded quiet and King and Wellens sounded decent too.

In fairness to Fernandes he was on the left, which is probably an unnatural position for him. He got stuck in though and won a fair amount of tackles.

Kasper 7.5 (Well protected but made one stretching save wide on his left to save what looked like being a goal).

Peltier 8 (exactly what we've needed on the right. Attitude, willingness to support, good skills and the energy to drive forward. His "goal" was the perfect example of the impact such an approach can have and the referee disallowing it was a total injustice and a disgrace).

Konchesky 7.75 (Best game by far. Close to a goal with a snap free-kick, competed for everything, worked the ball well out of defence and got forward more than usual) .

Mills 6 (One vital intercepted header but I just couldn't see when he got som much credit from after match commentators. His distribution was appalling with his first seven or eight passes over 10 yards going to the opposition and from mostly non-pressured situations).

Bamba 9 (Restricted CMS to crumbs and that was some achievement even if the impish striker should have scored. Won every personal challenge as I can recall..

Fernandes 6 (Busy, enthusiastic, but one of our weaker links)..

Wellens 6.5 (Anonymous for the most part).

Abe 8 (Goals win matches and his was the only one so it was crucial. Good to see him get in the box at all and to see him keep his nerve for the finish)..

King 8 (Excellent today. He rarely wasted a ball in midfield and was always involved. Had a couple of decent shots first half and made some excellent breaks in the second, even when tiring, from which he might have been more selfish and gone on to score himself. City need to be careful not to play everything through Beckford but to use his running as the decoy at times).

Beckford 7 (Still forming understandings with team-mates but he clearly has to be watched so closely).

Vassell 8.5 (Best game I've seen from him in ages. Took people on, asked questions, inch-perfect cross for the goal and full of enthusiasm).

Subs: NA really but even in the minute or two he was on the field Schlupp closed a guy down so quickly he almost conjured a chance out of nothing which was more than Gallagher threatened previously in the role).

Sven: 8 (The bloke provided the ideal response to criticism by presiding over a massive improvement. But that's the sort of energy, determination, belief and organisation we should display every game, home and away).

Bamba -9- Had MacKail-Smith in his pocket

Koncheskey -8- Much better performance, seems to be gaining confidence

Abe -8- Did well, great goal

Wellens -8- Lots of good passes, but people remember the few poor ones

King -8- Got involved, ran his socks off

Fernandes -7- Worked very hard

Vassell -9- Best I've seen him play

Beckford -7- Lively

Schmeichel 7 - Didn't really have a great deal to do, but what he had to do he did well.

Peltier 7.5 - Extremely unlucky to have the goal chalked off and much more direct going forward than previously.

Mills 7 - Really good in a backs to the wall situation, throwing himself at every ball. His distribution is worse than Kisnorbo's was though, and that's saying something.

Bamba 9 - Misplaced his first two passes. After that, did no wrong. Outstanding.

Konchesky 7.5 - Solid.

Wellens 6 - Often misused the ball and, like Southampton, there were too many times that Brighton players had space in front of our back 4, where Wellens is supposed to be.

Abe 8.5 - Great performance. Kept the ball well and even drove at their defence a couple of times. Great little header too.

Fernandes 6.5 - The worst I've seen him for us. Gave the ball away a lot and picked up a ridiculous booking, but he was positionally sound and energetic as always.

King 7.5 - Did a lot of good work running at their defence, and kept the ball well too. Defensively excellent too, and was key to our pressing game.

Beckford 7 - Looked sharp but wasted a couple of decent half-chances.

Vassell 8.5 - Whereas I've often thought he plays like a bull in a china shop, today he was subtle in control, energetic as always and put in a magnificent cross for Yuki.

Sven 9 - Tactically brilliant. The way we pressed them high up the pitch was key to our victory, and Sven must take credit for devising this strategy, with Beckford, Vassell and King some as well for carrying it out. Also, he didn't allow the initiative to be conceded at any point.

I've got a lot more to say about our pressing of their back 4, but don't have time for it now. But for me that was the most pleasing part of our performance.

Peltier - 9 - Defended and attacked very well. Great 'goal' too. He is FAR better than Pantsil.

Mills - 7 - Dominant in the air but his distribution is worse than Kisnorbo.

Bamba - 9 - Mackail Smith got nothing. Great performance.

Konch - 8 - Solid defensively and got forward.

Abe - 7 - Good header, wasn't as good as people are making out.

Wellens - 7 - Decent.

Fernandes - 7 - Not up to his usual very high standards.

King - 7 - Again, not brilliant.

Vassell - 10 - Brilliant MOTM. So much energy and creativity. Great cross for the goal.

Beckford - 7 - Showed glimpses. He will be an asset.

Sven - 9 - Right formation! Now STICK with it.

Ref - 6 - Good game I thought, except for disallowing the goal.

Brighton - 5 - Top of the League? You're having a laugh.
