Derby Ratings

I don't offten do this but the whole lot can have 10 and that includes the substitutes Dyer, Howard and Schlupp.

It was super to see us so positive and there were real contributions from everyone.

People might say Kasper had very little to do but the thing about Kasper is his flawless concentration and enthusiasm. He is such a foundation stone for confidence.

Kasper, Mills, King, Bamba, how many players might have edged Mom? I don't care. It was the team effort that impressed me. We were vibrant today and showed exactly why we really don't need to be inhibited by anyone.

Such shots as Derby produced Kasper handled flawlessly. His distribution was varied and imaginative and the brilliant relationship he's developed with his team-mates was perfectly emphasised when he clearly called for Kingy to leave the ball in a busy situation and the midfielder trusted him completely and let the ball run.

You'd never have guessed Derby were near the top of the table but they didn't dominate in any position. Everyone supported everyone else. Loved it.

Oh yes, and Sven can have a 10 too. I like 4-0's going on 5-0. I'd like to see some more.

Just seen the Kasper/King incident on Sky...you must have watched the game on TV you little tinker cuz you would never have picked up that audio at the ground!

Saw the game from the Kop.

Schmeichel 8 Only had some long shots and crosses to deal with, did it to perfection. Some great long balls too, that high 'up and under' style kick he does at times creates absolute havoc up front.

Peltier 7 Very solid, did everything needed in defence. Looks a very astute signing, got forward well in the second half.

Mills 9 Absolute monster in the air today, dealt with everything fantastically. Short passes were good, and some of his long balls were well spotted and hit.

Bamba 8 Good partnership with Mills now, won plenty of headers, a good performance nearly capped with a goal but denied by a clearance off the line.

Konchesky 7.5 As with Peltier, very solid in defence, got forward well too. He kept getting hammered by bad fouls from Derby players, but still kept going with determination.

Abe 8 Good to see him more central, I've always thought he links up well with King. Great work for the goal. For the first 15 odd minutes, he was totally bossing everything in midfield. Good game.

Danns 8 Good game Lee. Unlucky not to score in the build up to Vassell's goal. Tackled well, covered lots of ground, got forward well. His best game so far.

Fernandes 8 Perpetual motion personified. Never stops running, good ball to Nugent to set up the first goal.

King 9 Excellent first half, some great runs, and skills, on another day could have bagged a goal or two. Some quality passing as well.

Nugent 9  Quality goal, had a second disallowed, leads the line brilliantly. So so good to have him back. Free transfer? ****ing bargain.

Vassell 8 Good poaching for the goal, covered every blade of grass as per usual.

Subs

Dyer 7 Good to see him back, his pace against a flagging Derby defence caused plenty of problems, good to see him bag too.

Schlupp 7 Put himself around well, great swivelling shot for the goal. Great to see an academy product breaking through so well.

Howard 7 Massively fired up, could have bagged, that mazy run into the box ending with a blocked shot followed by his fist pumping was a brilliant moment.

Kudos to Sven, got it all right today - right team selection, right tactics, and some perfectly selected subs.

Falcon 10 Just for its Paintsil-esque laps of honour in the second half.

I sit in C2 and we spotted it.

Couldn't hear Kasper but it was blatant from watching it that he'd called. That or Thracian's right and Kingy really is superhuman.

We were magnificent today.

Schmeichel 8 - Impeccable as ever. His command of the air, his reflexes, his handling, his distribution and his enthusiasm are spot on whether he's under the cosh or barely worked. What a superb goalkeeper, Premier League class.

Peltier 7.5 - He's a very neat little player, isn't he? He's got all the attributes; he's quick, he's willing, he's strong, but what really marks him out as a potential top class player for me is that he makes good decisions. He gets forward and tracks back in just the right amounts and I've been so impressed with him.

Konchesky 7.5 - Continues to impress me, a very steady presence at the back. I've noticed over the last few weeks how good he is at getting back into the right position if the defence is ever exposed, with a late tackle or a defensive header, and he's got the stamina to keep getting forward for 90 minutes and provide width.

Mills 9 - Colossal again. Towering in the air, and ever improving on the deck, and as I've said before, he is absolutely the man you want in charge of the ship when the waters are stormy. He does the last ditch defending thing perfectly.

Bamba 8.5 - A marauding golem of a centreback. Between himself and Mills, the opposition get nothing aerially, and he's so strong and so quick, he's so hard to get past.

Abe 7 - A very neat display, tidy in possession, tracks back and covers well and showed some tidy passing. He makes for a solid base for the rest of the team.

Fernandes 7 - Energetic in midfield for most of the game, looking a bit jaded to me though. Will benefit from some rest, but he's positionally and technically very sound.

Danns 7.5 - Provided a far better balance in midfield with his pace, trickery and extra width. Can be pleased with his display, as he was at the heart of many of our best moves.

King 8.5 - Best I've seen King play in a long time. He looked quick and strong again and showed the bewitching movement that makes him so hard for the opposition to deal with. Derby had no answer to him and he ran the show like he so rarely has done but we all know he can.

Vassell 7 - Worked hard and deserved his goal.

Nugent 8 - So impressive. That first touch for his goal, that was absolutely top drawer, and the cute finish was delightful. He worked his socks off and lead the line brilliantly. I can't wait to see him play with Beckford.

Subs

Schlupp 7 - Such a well taken goal. Not much besides but he looks confident and clearly has striker's instincts.

Howard 8 - As much an 8 as can be earned from a 15 minutes cameo, he bullied the routing Derby defence into total surrender. Leicester legend.

Dyer 7 - Glad to see him get a run out, he always causes trouble and bagged the 4th, good work.

Wonder if those people who were slating Matt Mills after a mere 180 minutes of his City career will have the stones to admit they were talking absolute bollocks?

Can't see how people can only give Howard a 7, he came on, ran their defenders ragged and got 2 great assists. Come on people seriously.

People have given harsh ratings to Peltier IMO. Thought he had a good steady game, and seems quite solid at the back. He's also very good in the air!

spoke to Tony before the game he was most defiantly there, plus if Kasper didn't call would King have jumped out of the way in that situation?

From TV (obviously)

Kasper 7 - Derby offered little to no threat on goal for 90, so had very little to do. But he oozes so much quality and authority, the confidence of his teammates was so visible. His kicking is a weapon, no doubt, but he could've been a bit more constructive with the ball, second half especially. Peltier and Konch offered outlets time and again only for the ball to be lumped forward to Vassell. Frustrating as Mills finally stopped hoofing it :P But very reassuring, and on this evidence I don't understand why he isn't at least third keeper for the NT.

Peltier 7 - Consistent, did well defensively only allowing the odd cross, but otherwise read the game well. A couple of poor clearances/wayward passes in the second half put us under a little pressure, but otherwise competent.

Mills 8,5 - Knocked half a point for his hoofing first half, but otherwise a sterling performance. Only lost his man once when Davies crossed from our left and Robinson was within a whisker of equalizing, but won everything else and didn't pick up a booking either. Got his teammates out of pickles on more than one occasion. Started the brilliant move for the disallowed goal. A true captain's performance!

Bamba 7,5 - A beast. Pure and simple. Not as outstanding as Mills, but the partnership looks very solid and it's probably a bit harsh to give him a whole point less as he also offered an attacking threat. Silly booking cost him half a point though.

Konchesky 7 - Reliable and very mobile. Had a few hit and miss moments with his passing, and let Davies get that cross in, but otherwise very solid defensively and offered much support to Fernandes/Danns on the left.

Abe 7,5 - Looked like he's played in that position his whole career. Very comfortable on the ball, so energetic and always made himself available until Derby put a man on him second half. Played a part in both goals, starting the counter for the first. Got forward well on occasions too.

King 8 - Took up so many good positions, looked very much up for it, and could've scored if Danns didn't waste a great opening in the first half. Fantastic run and pass for the disallowed goal. Great awareness and just general good play forwards as well as back

Danns 7 - Very mobile and was eager to get forward. Lost the ball in dangerous places first half especially, but tracked back well. Should've passed it to King first half, but made up for it by running into a great position to get the shot off for Vassell's goal. Dynamic performance, but also looked the most tired player towards the end.

Fernandes 8 - Full of running and was virtually everywhere. Provided the first with a great pass and made the second goal happen and was generally a nuisance going forward and tracked back well too. Looks very classy when on this form.

Vassell 7,5 - Energizer bunny as usual and got our second goal at such a vital time. Our play deserved it and heads might've dropped or focus might've been lost had we not capitalized at the end of the first half. Didn't get much useful service when it wasn't played from midfield. Was esepcially noticeable second half. Think it was him that played King through as well with a perfectly timed and weighted pass for the disallowed goal.

Nugent 7,5 - Slightly harsh here, because of the hash he made of the tap in and his lack of sharpness after that. Went off after 70 minutes when we were just lumping the ball forward, so he served little purpose. Did well with the long balls in the first half incidentally, getting a few corners out them. Tormented their back line and great to see him continue his good form prior to his injury. Great goal as well, phwoar!

Subs:

Schlupp 7 - Congrats on your first league goal, Jeff! Looked very lively, and became effective once we started playing proper football again in the final 15 minutes.

Dyer N/A - Not on long enough, but he too was buzzing and was a natural replacement for Danns. Didn't take his goal that well, but who cares? Delighted for him, and hopefully he can keep this up and push for a place in the team

Howard N/A - What a ridiculous cameo! A dribble (!) that provided the corner for Schlupp's goal and a fantastic flick-on for Dyer's. Loved his audacious but mishit attempt at the end an the way he flared up after his uncharacteristic run. Two assists in 6 mins + injury time

Sven 9 - What a performance by him and his men. Perfect subs that provided two goals and two assists, you can't do any better than that. Needs to eradicate some of the impatient hoofing from the back. We looked so so solid in the middle, with only our flanks occasionally exposed. Admittedly Derby weren't up for much, but I will attribute that to the team and our shape. Keep it up, Sven!

Howard 9 - Best cameo I have ever seen in my life.

I think I agree with this.

He was excellent and did a bit of everything, one minute clearing from a Derby corner.....the next minute sliding in and winning the ball on the halfway line, standing up and playing a 25 yard chipped pass to Dyers feet.....flicking on the ball to create a goal like a Champions League calibre player.....destroying defenders with a Maradona run, and generally firing up the crowd and tv viewers just about as much as is possible! Awesome display and the attitude to match.

What a guy :trumpet:

Watching it from Iraq, is Danns woth keeping his place or do you think Sven will bring Wellens back in and drop him. I my eyes had a good games was all over the park.

Amazed to read one or two want Vassell dropped, after scoring yesterday, in favour of Beckford?

I think we need to be ruthless, not sentimental. Reward form, yes, but where you have an asset like Beckford I think we should expect goals from then he has to be given game time.

Goal aside, I don't think Vas was a stand-out player yesterday and I feel, for the most part, his end product is frustrating more than it's lethal.

Hi ,

thought Kasper and Andy said things to others when Sol lost the ball and King put it out for a corner. Really pleased for Matt Mills solid as a rock where are all the knockers now

Posted

I will admit I thought Mills was crap and so did 99% on here . I was wrong . He has proved himself over the last three games . I have never been so pleased to say I am a twat .

That's definitely not true.

Then again, I don't really see how Beckford would've been much better or effective than Vas was yesterday. In more even games, or games where the oppo are dominating I can easily see a case for Beckford's inclusion.

Regarding the posters that slated Mills, he was in all fairness pretty bloody awful the first few games he played for City, & I'm sure the even he would admit he didn't play anywhere near his best.

When we signed him, I was chuffed 'cos he had looked so good playing for Reading, but I was worried early doors as he didn't play at all well, & credit to Sven he had the bottle to drop him.

But thankfully he is now showing his true worth & building a good understanding with Sol,Sol,Bamba!
