Schmeichel

Having just watched the highlights of our emphatic win over Derby, I could not help but notice that, other than a cross that eluded everyone in the Foxes' box, Derby were reduced to shots from long distance that were easily dealt with by young Kasper Schmeichel.

Reflecting on last season and the criticism of Chris Weale - on this forum and elsewhere - for his inability to deal with shots from distance, it made me wonder how different this result could have been if it had been the Bristolian in goal instead of the Dane. Those two long efforts would probably have snook in past Weale and given this match a very different complexion...

Thoughts?

I've certainly got more confidence in Kasper in goal than Weale. What I love about him is that a lot of the saves he does, he makes them look incredibly simple, with weale I felt any shot could go in. I do think he'll be the difference between top 6 and top 2.

Completely agree, first time in ages I watch a leicester keeper and feel comfortable with shots and his dealing with crosses!

Not to mention he can absolutely kick the shit out of the ball too!

Turning out to be an absolute steal of a signing at 1 mil!

It is a massive boost, when you have a quality goalkeeper. Kasper is a quality goalkeeper and I feel so safe with him in our goal.

Cannot for the life of me understand the criticism he got from Leeds and the willingness to let him go for next to nothing. Although, I suppose having Kisnorbo and the like in front of you would make any keeper look shaky.

And Leeds said he was shit lol

I think if one of our best prospects left under very bizarre circumstances and we thought were bigger than we were, then we'd make such silly statements.

You can see clearly that Leeds are the worse for his absence.

I won't go down the Weale criticism route, I probably covered everything I need to say about him, but Kasper is about the best value for money that we've spent in the last 8 years at least.

He has a lot to live up to just by his name, and seems to the profile of a winner. We needed a communicator and a confident character. We've got both in abundance.

He'll leave eventually, as the lure of the top four beckons in my opinion. But he'll be a hero when he does. He's already proven his worth and needless to say will save us points this season. Could i even be so bold to say that'll be the difference between a promotion place and a playoff place?

Leeds fans said Gradel was shit when he left, a few but still. There deluded. Schmeichel > Lonergan.

I wanted Kasper Schmeichel here before we were even linked with him, but thought we'd never get him in a million years. Then when it happened i was ecstatic. He, for me has been our best summer signing with Nugent being an extremely close second. Love Kasper. My sig may give that away. lol

I can't believe Leeds let him go. Potentially the best of all our summer signings (although I think Nugent will go on to make a Leicester legend of himself)

Schmeichel's looks the best all round 'keeper we've had since Shilton. A genuine asset.

a) He's a reliable shot stopper.

b) He's a brilliant reaction save specialist.

c) He's a communicator.

d) He clearly wants and expects to be a winner.

e) His distribution is constructive and mostly excellent.

f) His gigantic kicks are a special weapon.

g) He learns from mistakes.

h) His workrate suggests he's genuinely ambitious.

i) He's established a real rapport with the fans and the trust of his team-mates.

j) He's got presence, that certain star quality that sets certain people apart.

10/10 for me. .

Is he on his father's level? No. But he looks like he is a special talent.

The guy's got RIDICULOUS hands, too. I feel like he can catch anything.

What's more, when his head is screwed on properly, he's a leader in the back. He's always communicating with his defenders (yelling a lot, of course, but hey; he's a goalkeeper). And although he's young for a goalkeeper, the veterans in front of him listen to him and respect him.

It appeared to me that after a second half corner--the one right after Hendrick made that nasty, red-card-worthy tackle on Vassell--that Schmeichel went right up to Hendrick and let him know just what he thought about that shit. It's refreshing to see our players stick up for one another. Don't get me wrong, Schmeichel will go wherever offers money or prestige tempt him, but he clearly wants to be the best he can be and I'm confident he'll continue to give us a 100% effort as long as he's here.

Signing of the summer IMO, Leeds fans only look at the 70 odd goals he conceded last year, but he's been class here.

Would that be Bamba and Mills, who are the same age give or take a year? :giggle:

Schmeichel is a truly top quality goalkeeper, who quite frankly is Premiership quality.

Weale is only an average, low league standard player. God help us if Schmeichel has a long term injury. That worries me more than any other factor, with regards to promotion this season.

He's just a commanding presence. He catches the ball cleanly or punches with authority. He gets in the right position to deal with long range shots. His kicking is massive (even his bad kicks go a fair distance).

You just feel so comfortable with him as number 1.

Schmeichel is making a world of difference. His awareness is much better than Weale's, so he's not threatened so much by crosses or distance shots. A good example yesterday was when Derby had their one decent cross and althougn a Derby player was coming in through the middle he realised that it was too high and dived across goal to lessen any chance that someone might sneak in on the far post and score. A lot of goalkeepers flap in situations like that - I was impressed.

Defenders trust him and have confidence knowing his between the sticks, organising things at the back and dealing with any potential danger with ease.

Kasper is a fantastic signing & I would like to thank Leeds for allowing us to take their 'crap' keeper off their hands!

I would love him to be tested with international allegeince, as to whther he would don the England keepers shirt if approached? I believe he does qualify to play for England, as so far he has only played at U21 level for Denmark.

You surely have to believe that he has been coached by his old man & probably still gets well meaning advice from him.

I just love his passion, hope he's signed up on a long term contract.

Shilton was always worth several points each season to whichever football club he was playing for, & I think Kasper will prove to do that for City.

Once again, thank you Leeds & especially Master Bates!

Brilliant kepper, one word to describe him would be: Safe!

Never looks like making a mistake (touch wood) best keeper we have had for a long time i can't speak highly enough of him.

i think he would get into any prem side already the was he has started for us. Bolton could have defiantly used him earlier on lol i also loved our teams desire to keep the clean sheet near the end of the game.
