Steve Jobs Passes Away

This story flies over my head a bit.

I mean, it's tragic to hear of anyone dying so young.

But I did'nt know him, and I did'nt want to scream RIP at the top of my lungs when the person who started Ford or Toyota or Zanussi passed away.

Apple snobbery also really gets on my tits.

If it doesn't mean anything to you there is no need to say anything.

As a designer it means something to me because for the last 15/20 years we've used nothing but apple products. I was using them before 99.9% of people on the planet had even heard of apple.

It revolutionised the way we worked and the boundaries that could be broken. And that was before they revolutionised the look and feel of computers when they launched the first iMac.

To do that again to the way people buy and listen to music through itunes and the iPod. And now again breaking new boundaries with the iPad is something special.

RIP Steve.

He created Apple and turned them into one of the greatest companies, if not the best company, in the World. He had so much impact upon technology, and the man was a genius. He will certainly be missed by his friends at Apple, but the World has also lost a clever and inspirational man.

He also had something to to with Pixar before it was sold to Disney. So, he had a say in computer animation as well.

I understand some people may not know who he was, but, his legacy is constantly around: iPod, iPhone, iPad, MAC etc.

I would bet your phone, computer, trainers etc all were also.

Correct, ipad and ipod too. Good products for the 1st world.

But I dont think of Jobs as a hero. He was just another CEO screwing who and what he could to make a bigger profit even when his exploitation was exposed.

Might have been. I dont know. Its probably harder to avoid than you think.

I just dont get it why people are such great fans of Jobs. Is it because he represented the American Dream? :dunno:

Jobs was an extremely clever and inspirational man, whose dedication led to the amazing products we have such as iPhone and he revolutionised the way we listen to music.

Sad to hear this but I'm sure Apple can continue growing and bringing us new products.

RIP

People admire genius. Much of what he created is taken for granted now days. 16 Years ago when I used a mac for the first time and 10 years ago when I purchased the first iPod they blew me away.

I guess he gets admired more than others who have created great products because he was the active figurehead of the company and presented every one of his new products personally to the world through the keynotes.

People felt like they knew him a bit I suppose because of the keynotes, just him, his products, his visions and his ideas. It was all quite personal in the presentation.... and he seemed like a nice bloke, which helps I guess.

It's sad that someone who has changed the world so much in the last 20 years died so early. Would have been nice to see what other things they could have done over the next 20... maybe apple still can, we'll see.

As Steve didn;t necessarily design the products himself, I think we can expect the culture he infused, and the people he attracted to Apple to go some way to maintaining the passion and creativity. Whether you can get the incredible ability to gauge what people will buy? Impossible to say. He was a one off in that respect.

On Another note, for non apple users to think their lives have not been affected by Steve is pure ignorance. Those of us using macs before Microsoft took over the PC world remember that Windows as we know it now is based largely on the user interface which Jobs gave us. Your MP3 players? All your Android phones? Ditto.

Not sure how true this is but apparently the Westboro Baptist Church are planning to picket his funeral!!! Irony being that this was posted on twitter by a member of the church via an iPhone!

You are supposed to make a profit, in anything you do.

Saying he could do whatever to make a bigger profit is a ridiculous comment, its business. If you created something, you'd want it to sell and make you a profit.

As the son of someone who co-ran one of the biggest advertising agencies on this Country I'm well aware of the love for apple in the creative world.

But they can still jog on at the prices they charge for their gear I'll stick to the plain old unfashionable Windows and Android gear that does the same thing just without the Apple badge.

When i heard this news, the first thing I thought was, he even was clever enough to wait to die after the launch of the iPhone 4s. Then I thought, hmmm, maybe he died before it and that might effect the launch. The cynic within is a beast I wrestle with on a daily basis, but the board at Apple were furious when shares dipped when he came out with his declaration that he had cancer and might step down.

WTF? As I am sure you will agree there is more to life than money. Life for example.

So businesses dont have ethics and people have no ethics when they are in business?

Even McDonalds has ethics these days! their product was damaged for years on the back of the environmental damage and they have spent billions trying to portray themselves as environmentally ethical.

Babs: I see what you are saying but it doesn't do it for me. Apple are a firm who could have addressed sweatshops but never appear to have done. His keynotes dont do it for me.

I am guessing that what actually happened is Apple, and Steve jobs himself have in fact visited the factories which make their products, whereas those who criticise them have in fact, not. So to call them sweatshops is probably a little bit ignorant, and it certainly portrays a very westernised view of the world.

Very, very true. Bit of a stupid comment from me there.

I am sure that Apple as a company would have reviewed everything. If the product is selling, then, why change? Apple have cemented themselves as a good organisation.

I don't know, Consumerism would say otherwise.

Aka being so thick and unable to think for yourself that you are dragged to an apple shop by a ghost like figure who tells you to buy the products because if you don't you might die.......

God I hate people that can't think for themselves and then blame people who can(I.e. The marketing men and advertisers with actual brains) for the fact they have just bought something they probably don't need!

Stupid zombie no brain *****!! Grrrrrrrrr makes me so so so angry!

I mean seriously the people on here and other sites who have said Steve has basically robbed people blind are exactly the same people who watch and advert for something shiny and new and then go out and stockpile it before realising they now can't afford to pay their rent/child support/bar tabs....

Utter wastes of oxygen!!
