dannythefox Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Why wouldn't they? They don't have to give names. Something vague like "we have some candidates in mind" would do - but he gave the opposite impression. Why would they put themselves in that situation when all sky are going to ask is who is it! They no who they want do you really think tops going to read through everyones cvs? no there not cause they will no who they want.
MrSpaM Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 If they mention that they've been speaking with MON then the press will have a field day. If they mention they've been speaking to anybody else it might give MON the impression that he's not our first choice. My guess is were waiting to see what Martin says before we start telling everybody else the balls rolling.
cc_star Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Nice one, tell the media nothing & do all your talking where it's meant to be done. In private.
Jace Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 If Top and Co have had no contact whatsoever with Martin O Neill where is he? shouldn't somebody call the police and report him missing surely many people must be looking for him? If he didn't want the job he would rule himself out and say he is not interested, I think there is more to this story right now that we do not know
Kitchandro Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 He hasn't ruled anybody out... The bit where he said he'd never heard of some of them made me laugh.
Babylon Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 He hasn't ruled anybody out... The bit where he said he'd never heard of some of them made me laugh. Ha ha what names did he say that to? I can just imagine Peter Reid sitting at home just filling in is application with sky sports on in the background. Sky Reporter "Top, it's been reported you're interested in Peter Reid" Top "Eh, Peter Week, who da fook is Peter Weed he he he"
Jon the Hat Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Club don't tell everything to the press shock. Stringer will be so disappointed.

And he said something along the lines of 'some I have been impressed with, others I don't know who they are'.

Jace Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 They've spoken with MON 3 times in the last 5/6 weeks, I know this to be true & have stated why in a previous thread. But they aren't going to admit this, and do their negotiations thru the press are they. I can't believe they sacked Sven without prior knowledge as to the future manager. They are very good business men after all. Sorry I've missed your other post about this how do you know? If Martin O Neill is in talks he would of asked the board to keep hush anybody remember when he had a deal agreed with West Ham last season and when the board let slip to the media he changed his mind?
MPH Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 The interviewer did probe him (not literally) but you wouldn't expect him to spill too much. We do now know, however, that they haven't been speaking to O'Neill (clears up the sightings at Belvoir Drive rumours) and that they don't have somebody lined up. If they didn't have anyone lined up then things must have been pretty bad behind the scenes not to give him another week or two while they look around. They may not have spoken to MON. Andrew Neville may have done though We might not have spoken to them... we may have to their agents though.
Master Fox Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 I'd be astounded if we haven't made contact with O'Neill or Hughes yet, ASTOUNDED. I'd be astounded if it's not DOWIE! Astounded!

And he said something along the lines of 'some I have been impressed with, others I don't know who they are'. Probably flicking through CV's, and then seeing 'SCHTEVE McCLaren'. And then being like...
Saladin Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 It is strange that MON has not come out and said he is not interested in the role, i mean, he'd have to be in the outer reaches of Mongolia to not know that he is the bookies favourite.
Babylon Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Probably flicking through CV's, and then seeing 'SCHTEVE McCLaren'. And then being like... "ha ha ha **** you bitcheeeeeeeees".

What is he going to do? Ring a newspaper up? If he's not been contacted, he's got no good reason to say anything.

He's never been a media man anyway. When he was at Leicester he NEVER let spill anything about signings etc.

m00nie Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 this was the momment at training today when steve maclaren was sited approaching belvoir drive (stolen from fb )
Corky Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 This calls for a Hitler "Leicester manager applications" video.

Leicesterpool Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Maybe the deals done for O'Neill, but won't be appointed till after the West Ham, over wise perhaps he knows the West Ham supporters would be after his head, since he snubbed them last season
The_Golden_Gunman Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 If he didn't want the job he would rule himself out and say he is not interested, I think there is more to this story right now that we do not know I agree. If MON didn't want the job, he'd publically come out and rule himself out of the equation. I may be wrong, but I am fairly certain that he did this (although not immeadiately) when Sousa was sacked last year. He may yet go on to rule himself out, but the fact that he has not done so yet suggests to me that he (or his agent) are in preliminary talks about at least the possibility of him taking over. After all if the former England, Lazio and Benfica manager could be persuaded to take over at the KP, I have no doubt that the most popular manager in our history could also be persuaded to have another crack. I really wish there was some way the fans could voice our opinions clearly to the owners. Whilst I do feel that the Sven sacking was harsh, I can understand the reasoning behind the decision. If as a result of Sven leaving we see the return of MON, then it would be a huge positive for the club, for the players and for the city! Not only has MON gone on to do a top job in each of his successive jobs after Leicester (Celtic and Villa), but the morale boost his appointment would create would be phenomenal. It would fire up the fans so much and that might be just the shot in the arm the players need to go out and do the business on the pitch. Here's hoping!
