accessory Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 So much for Top telling the media this week that any replacement manager should have Championship experience. Clark also has a record (like Jones and Davies) as a serial playoff bottler..
teblin Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 So much for Top telling the media this week that any replacement manager should have Championship experience. Clark also has a record (like Jones and Davies) as a serial playoff bottler.. I'm sure he said the should "know" the division. He has been a coach in the division at Norwich i think. He wouldn't have been my choice but he could still be a very decent appointment.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 Seconded. Didn't you say you hadn't even heard of him before this week? How can you form a negative opinion on a manger you haven't a clue about - especially one with a decent record?
lcfc_sam_p Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 God everyone seems to slate every name that comes up apart fro MON. Let it go..
Libertine Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 As I say, a few years back I'd be chuffed with this but I just can't see it working out for either party. He's expected to be successful immediately rather than build over a few years. Shame because I rate him, think it's a bit early is all. But hey, positivity!
flowwolf Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 Someone will be advising them, the chances are they have never heard of Clarke. So I'm more worried about who they choose to advise them, than their knowledge as I'd already taken it for granted they don't know a huge amount. Maybe it's Andrew Neville, maybe it's an outside source. Who knows. So who advised them to give Erickson the boot ? Who ever it was got that right so lets hope the phantom " advisers " get the next manager right . :crylaugh: :crylaugh: A post chock full of pure conjecture :dunno:
lcfcsnow Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 MON is never coming back, people wishing for him should get used to it he uses us for his own promotion EVERY time we sack a manager. I'd prefer Mark Hughes but if Top and his dad weren't in charge I'm pretty sure the majority here would be all for Lee Clark. I'm concerned he hasn't had much experience spending the sort of money the Thai's will make available though.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 No one can deliver instant success in this league, it's nigh on impossible. Regardless of how much wedge you part with. Anyone that can turn Jordan Rhodes into a goal machine has to have some kind of spark.
Haydos Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 A good manager should have all the qualities of a 'Director of Football'. Always sounded to me like a position made up because the manager is basically just a coach.
Ashley Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 Fanhouse Percy says we're lining up an approach for Clark. He's usually bang on. #LCFC are preparing an official approach to #Huddersfield for Lee Clark. Talks expected soon if given go-ahead #HTAFC I'm sure he posted something similar about O'Neil the other day? Not about talks but still. I dont think anyone knows anything at this point.
artursteppe Posted 28 October 2011 Author Posted 28 October 2011 I still think that if Clark comes we will have a 'name' as DOF, possibly Kevin Keegan who it is said was interested in the manager's job. He would tick all the boxes that Clark doesn't.
Ric Flair Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 My negativity comes from the fact that it's a massive gamble, the sort of gamble a club like Reading, Brighton or Forest would take. However we have more money than any club in this league, will pay more wages than any club in this league and our owners will not tolerate anything other than promotion this season. So do you give the gig to a young pretender or go with someone with a proven track record? This is akin to Man Utd replacing Rooney with the top scorer of the Championship. A huge gamble that history tells will end unsatisfactory. I know we could list a lot of managers who have made the step up and an instant impact, but for every hero, there's more failures along the way. Top managers cost money, we have money. Go for the best, that we can reasonably expect. He's not even done that well anyway. I'm appalled, I really am at this. Sven deserves more respect from the Thai's than Lee Clark and so do we.

Peter taylor was a great under 21 manager and a good season at the gill's. But had no fvcking idea how to spend money. Can Clark? remains to be seen Roy Keane nope Billy Davies not sure worth a risk no IMO Shearer would not even give him the chance Feel free to add to the list

I liked Sven, I really liked him and wanted him to succeed, but, on reflection, this squad just isn't balanced, and he had time and money to sort it. We have so, so many centrally minded midfield players and very few wide men. Our midfield is bypassed virtually every game because there's an over reliance on the full-backs. I think your Rooney analogy is some way off considering Sven had hardly set the world alight here, we are left with an unevenly spread squad until January (unless loanees are bought in). Until that time, we'll be the same horribly inconsistent side, never in any danger but hardly troubling or worrying anyone. You could argue that with a 'bigger name' at the helm we could attract better talent - but thus far, we find ourselves mid-table having had one of the most recognisable coaches in the world in charge, spending moolah left, right, and centre. It'd seem that that isn't always the case. As I've said, I liked Sven - but considering the resources he had here, did he really do that good a job? I'd still sooner have Davies, and I know it's a gamble (should Clark get the job), but to say it appals you seems a touch excessive, mate.
Joe. Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 I wouldn't be completely dismayed by all of this but I'd certainly be underwhelmed. Clark has done a fair job with a very good Huddersfield side but I've seen little to suggest he's exactly what we need for this job on our hands. Essentially, it's a big gamble. We could be going for somebody with no experience at this level, which for me should have been a number one priority. Forget the name, forget the brand, we need a good Championship manager. is Clark that man? It's impossible to say without him doing the job. Which is why, with our resources, it seems much more sensible to go for somebody with a track record at this level.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 Which is why, with our resources, it seems much more sensible to go for somebody with a track record at this level. Which is why I think many (including myself (and probably yourself)) would take Davies in a heartbeat. Relative success at three separate clubs that have declined since he left - easily the best candidate (bar O'Neill). I'd prefer him to Hughes, or Clark.

I mean I really do not know the answer. Was last season his first?

That's it, after much thought, I'm throwing my hat into the Hughes camp. Not been a failure anywhere and has top level experience if we go up. Best candidate, I reckon, if Martin's not coming home. Who's with me

joeybside Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 SSN just reported that we're approaching Crystal Palace to talk to Dougie Freedman????????????? WTF!!!!!!!! Win rate of 41% no different to what we had. Pooooooor
artursteppe Posted 28 October 2011 Author Posted 28 October 2011 How much experience did Paul Lambert have of the Championship. I mean I really do not know the answer. Was last season his first? Just checked it myself. Paul Lambert last year was just two years older than Lee Clarke is now. Last season was his first in the Championship as a manager. He is now a manager in the Premiership at the age of 42. So now someone tell me that a young manager with no experience of the Championship cannot get a team promoted into the Premiership!
