Lambert09 Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 After the first few games so many people were on his back, but I think his leadership qualities have been missed incredibly over the last 3 and a half games, bar maybe Watford but they have there own problems. Honestly feel we would be looking at an extra 3 or 4 points had he been playing in these games. I just want to say to all his early critics take a step back and look at us without him. Along with Bamba I think they are going to be our most important players this year and really do feel he will earn his price tag eventually, I just hope the new manager doesnt come in and try to get us playing 'sousa' football, as we all know how that can end up .
cc_star Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 We've had our problems with Mills in the team too But he's better than SSL or Ball filling in that's for sure, but I'm far from ready to start sucking his dick just yet... He does have the potential to be a legend though, but I wish he'd occasionally pass the ball 5 yards to a better passer rather than loft it forwards which invariably end up with another opposition attack.
Guest parky0607 Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Will be nice to have him back but still not convinced to have him as our captain. Ok he shouts a lot but he isnt a role model for the rest of the team. Going in for a 2 footed tackle when youre 1-0 down is a prime example. His form can be sometimes inconsistent and hes hardly proved himself to be the rock of our team. I would prefer schmeical / bamba / king... Players who have earnt that respect.
Lambert09 Posted 30 October 2011 Author Posted 30 October 2011 Just the thought of a Mills long pass to Beckford makes me die inside haha

We've missed him enormously. But he'd been a different player in the matches before his sending off compared to the way he performed to begin with. He started to establish a real understanding with Bamba and seemed to finally warm towards his task. The sooner he's back the better because we've looked a mess again in his absence.
Jimmy Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 isn't Tunchev back after Tuesday as well, plenty of options for the new boss, whenever they get around to hiring him
LCFC BEAST Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 We'll need Tunchev for when Bamba's gone to the African Cup Of Nations but other than that he has been sorely missed at the back whether or not his passes are sh*t, but as a defender your job is to defend and since he's not been playing are defence has been horrible!
muzzy1981 Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 We started to build a fantastic defensive record which Mills was playing a key part and appeared to be growing in confidence each game. Sending off was stupid, don't to see anything like that again. He is quality no doubt.

Fans critical of Mills in his early games are indicative of what a "knee jerk reaction" club we can be at times and quite frankly it's all a little bit embarrassing for me - there was one guy in SK2 who would shout "how much?" everytime Mills touched the ball earlier on in the season but has been alot quieter of late. I don't know if it's the money swilling around the club at the moment but expectations of the fans appears alot higher these days than it used to be, although having said that I recall MON getting some stick after a home defeat to Sheffield United before things clicked for him. All in all we're in a bit of a mess at the moment IMO, yesterdays performance in the second half was heartening but as people on here keep saying, football is a results business and why the powers that be felt we could go to Upton Park yesterday without a manager and get anything more than we did is beyond me. Tuesdays trip to Turf Moor looks like another battle and then two home games against teams with much better form than we have. I have looked at the table this morning trying to find hope from somewhere and historically I can't find a team in this division that has gone up having lost five out of their opening fourteen games (I am sure someone will prove me wrong), the new manager who I am sure will be presented to us before next Sundays game will have alot of work to do and by my reckoning if the owners patience is to be consistant will have until Brighton away on February 4th to turn things around otherwise that's his thirteen games in charge up and time for somebody else to have a go. For the record I think Bamba is the issue in the centre of our defence and if St Ledger had the opportunity to play with him a little longer then he might get a better understanding of how to read Bamba and work with him. This won't happen as Mills will come back into side for Tuesday night and I suspect a tighter game for us defensively but the damage to St Ledgers confidence has already been done as has Beckfords who I fear will spiral into another DJ situation. The next decision for the owners is pivotal to our club and could have ramifications for many many years to come - lets hope they make a good appointment, somebody who can motivate the dressing room and have the tactical knowledge to turn a talented squad into a Championship side capable of putting a good string of results together and making the best of a very open division this season.
Leicesterpool Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 St Ledger looked convincing in Matt's position.,not overly excited about Matt's return.

Agree with all of this
Corky Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Mills and Bamba were developing a solid understanding before the needless red card, I hope he's learned from it.

Some interesting points but where this idea of "13 games" comes from I don't know. Sven had a year to build and shape his team and despite massive support, left us worse placed than Pearson. Right or wrong the owners decided he had to go to give the next bloke a reasonable chance of turning the tide this season. Their mistake was snd is in not having a replacement sorted. We've got an extremely difficult game at Burnley and I can't see that beating Leeds will be a fomality. By the time a new boss arrives we might have lost further ground and, after that, we know our defence is going to be disrupted again by the absence of Bamba. We're climbing an increasingly steep gradient right now and the sooner we reach flat ground the better.

What about Sunderland that won the league after being bottom at Christmas?
Stevie Synex Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Gracian, Svens team was primarily loanees last season and it was during the close season that he formulated his side for the forthcoming campaign. In essence SGE had thirteen league games to provide sufficient evidence to the owners that his plans were going to produce results on the pitch - the rest as they say is history.
tomtom Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 What about Sunderland that won the league after being bottom at Christmas? Sorry bert but sunderland were not bottom at Christmas ,
stix Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 Sunderland had 34 points by Christmas in the 2006-07 season.
STUHILL Posted 30 October 2011 Posted 30 October 2011 I think Matt Mills had a poor start to his career here and some fans have still not forgiven him for that. I think before his red card, he and the team were looking very strong. Think he has potential to be an awesome signing and captain but hope people can forget about his slow start and let him get on with it now. Bring him back in for Burnley and let him sort Bamba out too as I think Bamba seemed more focussed with Mills alongside him
