accessory Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Wellens, King, Dyer and Gallagher and Howard will all start 100% guaranteed Maybe not Howard, but Pearson will stick with the same tried and failed midfield. It's not in his nature to make quickfire changes, whatever rhetoric he may have spouted after yesterday's fiasco. I note Jimmy Bullard is in the Ipswich side. He'll be looking to prove a point to the manager who dumped him at his previous club. This game has all the makings of a Christmas horror show..
Corky Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Schmeichel Peltier Mills Bamba Konchesky Danns Abe Fernandes Nugent Beckford Schlupp
Gazza M Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Well it appears we have assembled another very average squad, which is too big, has very little quality and is unbalanced! So to be honest Nigel hasn't really got many options for Boxing Day. I have to say that for the last few seasons I have lost count how many times we have had to wipe the slate clean and gut a squad and start a fresh. If you go back to last year the same happened and we had all of the loan signings, we did it after relegation to league one, during the Holloway period, Martin Allen bought about 15 in a few months prior to that and we wonder why in all that time we not gone anywhere. The only time we had success was when Pearson made a few additions in the summer of "09" and we had a settled squad that went on to get in to the play offs through momentum. I believe that Pearson is the right man for the job, but the Thai owners have got to stop this Premiership now rubbish and allow Pearson to re-build and get it right. My team for Ipswich: Kasper Koncheskey Tunchev Mills Peltier Dyer Fernandes King Danns Nugent Beckford
Thracian Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Schmeichel Peltier Mills Tunchev Konchesky Danns Fernandes Abe Nugent Beckford Schlupp the current midfield isn't working and we don't have any wingers so go back to the system which worked last season, Nugent played as the wide striker for Pompey last season and between the 3 they can interchange to keep the defenders guessing. all 3 midfielders are players that use the ball quickly and play the pass & move game well and Abe/Fernandes can play the holding role when needed King in for Abe - he at least promises the chance of a goal - and I might go with that. Much as I favour width we can't play that way with Pearson's philosophy and with someone like Gallagher wide right. We need to press the opposition and at least that team has a reasonable chance of doing that.
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Don't think our defence is that bad in Pelts,Bamba,St Ledger,Mills and Konchesky. I would rate that as one of the best defences in the league. The problem is the midfield we have so many midfielders but not of sufficient quality in Wellens,Gally,Dyer,King and Danns. Even though I like Danns
psychonaut Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Wellens, King, Dyer and Gallagher and Howard will all start 100% guaranteed If they do Pearson was a mistake.
Kitchandro Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 I'd probably start Fernandes but Fernandes and Abe in the same midfield is a no-no, as we witnessed at the start of the season. Why do people not remember that that was one of Sven's utterly crap ideas? I'd have Danns in, not because I rate him but because King and Wellens need to be dropped. Beckford should come back in, Schlupp should be on the bench. Tunchev in for St Ledger.
RowlattsFox Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 I'd probably start Fernandes but Fernandes and Abe in the same midfield is a no-no, as we witnessed at the start of the season. Why do people not remember that that was one of Sven's utterly crap ideas? They weren't playing in a 3 though we're they, both were playing wide. Fernandes being there as the defensive midfielder could allow Abe to get a bit further forward, they only time I remember Abe doing that was against Man City when Wellens went off and I thought he did really well. Saying that though Johnson would be ideal alongside Fernandes and Danns but he seems to have disappeared.
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 It would be a brave man, given the second half shocker that we had yesterday, to stick with the same team. Brave, or stupid anyway... Wellens needs a kick up the arse..drop him for Gelson Gally either needs to finally toughen up or fook off..drop him for Danns Howard is past it...drop him for Beckford (or give Jeff a go..) St. Ledger. for me, is not good enough.... Mills back in These would be the four changes I'd make. Oh, and this may be controversial..is Pantsil that bad? I don't think we've seen enough of him... Consider giving Pelts a break so maybe five changes then.....
Blueforever Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Kasper Koncheskey Bamba Mills Peltier Dyer Abe Fernandes King Beckford Nugent Here's my team, Abe in a holding role and Fernandes as play maker, King as an attacking midfield and Dyer providing width
acooling08 Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 If we lose this then I officially give up on the Play offs.
Brooksy Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 If Wellens, Gallagher and King start we'll lose. Simple as that
Kitchandro Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 They weren't playing in a 3 though we're they, both were playing wide. Saying that though Johnson would be ideal alongside Fernandes and Danns but he seems to have disappeared. At Coventry, Fernandes and Abe played in a 3, and at home to Reading, in both games we were too negative and played poorly. Danns was the one playing out wide which admittedly doesn't suit him, but he's played in the centre too and has been unimpressive there. Abe has never been and will never be a creative player. Nor has he ever been consistently good.

Guest Col city fan Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Yes Churchill I'd like to see what Pantsil can do under a new manager. And Pelts has been good but Kitchandro was right.. He was not marking Sharp for the second goal. The time he had to shape himself and smack it home was too long.. I don't know much about what Pantsil can do and am not against shaking it all up for Ipswich. Just as an aside.. We needed three points yesterday too and didn't get them...
marbelladave Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Nice catch Col, I was about to suggest that 'three pints' are needed most days....... As for the football, I have had to miss the last two games for family (Christmas) related issues, sounds like a bit of a result for me...... Can you imagine how pissed off I would have been had I spent time and money watching such rubish. The board would have crashed under the weight of my posts, the worlds supply of vitriol and invective would have been severely depleted.....
iamafox Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 I have a feeling that NP will stick with the 4-4-2 formation for the Ipswich game.
fleckneymike Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 I have a feeling NFP will stick with the same midfield 4.
ithuriel Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Well i'm a glutton for punishment, all my mate's are not going to this match but i'm going to get down there, will get my ticket tomorrow, might go the Portsmouth game too. Rrely miss new years or boxing day matches at home, even during the Craig Levein era
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 19 December 2011 Posted 19 December 2011 Schmeichel Konchesky Mills St Ledger Peltier Fernandes Danns King Schlupp Beckford Nugent This, except King out Yuki in.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 19 December 2011 Posted 19 December 2011 Would like to see both Danns and one of Abe/Fernandes. My worry is that you cant play both Abe and Fernandes as they are similar defensive minded players. Danns in for Wellens is a must though.
