ohh and Billy Sharp deal is NOT dead. #lcfc board are not currently willing to match his demands. #drfc"

If that's true, I hope we don't match his demands its time we get players who want to play for us not just money.

For starters, a 30k+ fanbase, an international-class stadium and a couple of trophies in the last 20 years. Many Premier clubs would envy us for any or all of these.

MON showed what could be done. It's a travesty his legacy has been so badly tarnished by weak boards, a succession of abysmal managers and a whole host of inadequate, under-achieving players.

Where have you been?

I thought this was common knowledge? Pearson said in his post match interview, in his 'politically tactful tone' that an offer had been made that was as much as the board felt able to offer and that the ball was in Sharp's court.

Leicester City's bid to sign Billy Sharp looks set to fail.

Doncaster Rovers manager Dean Saunders has indicated that the 25-year-old striker does not want a move to the King Power Stadium.

Nigel Pearson, however, says City have made the best offer they could to land Sharp, right, and that the door is still open to him.

The City manager said after Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Barnsley that they were still waiting on an answer from the Sharp camp.

City are believed to have offered him a lucrative contract, having been allowed to discuss personal terms with the Rovers star after meeting the terms of a clause in his contract. However, Pearson warned he would not pay over the odds for any player and criticised some of City's previous spending.

"We have made the best offer we can make," said Pearson. "The door is not shut but you can only go so far.

"As a club we have probably been guilty of going overboard in terms of spending on certain players so far.

"As far as I am concerned, it is about building a team. It is not collecting players. I don't intend to do that.

"We have done quite a bit of trimming down already in terms of dispensing with players. Now it is time to add to what we have got and complement it. But also we have to get more out of what we have already got here."

Saunders said Sharp had indicated he did not want to join City, but fears other clubs may come in for the 10-goal striker.

"As far as I know, Billy will be staying with us," Saunders said. "We've tried everything to make him stay.

"He's indicated he's not going to Leicester but somebody else might come knocking.

"There's a clause in his contract and if someone hits it – if Manchester United come in for him tomorrow – I'm sure he'll change his mind."

Pearson said after Saturday's defeat that he is determined to strengthen his squad and is looking at former Swansea winger David Cotterill in training.

"He has been with us only a couple of days so we will see how that develops," he said.

"We haven't had a great opportunity to do a lot of work with him.

"We are looking in various positions to try to strengthen, of course."

So that's Maynard, Long, Keane, Jelavic and now Sharp who for one reason or another haven't made it to our place despite our efforts to secure their services.

Time for a new strategy methinks, and time for us all to wake up and realise that putting together a succesful team in the Championship cannot be achieved solely by throwing big money at it.

U have to question the people that are trying to sell the club to these players. For one reason or another we are not an attractive proposition at the moment and that needs addressing because the players we have at the moment are simply not good enough! Also I can't believe that we have 1 winger in the squad, how have we let that happen?

Too depressing thinking about it.

Well there are different reasons why each hasn't happened, but the strategy of big money for established names hasn't worked.

I would go for the old NP strategy, get the Mark Davies, Cleverley's, Tunchev's, Cameron Stewart's before they become big names and take advantage of their added hunger as well as undoubted skill and shape a team rather than a collection of highly paid individuals.

I think the owners would getter better value and a better team too, but they and us would need to show some patience.

In the Merc Pearson has said we also paid out way too much for some players (I think he meant in wages). If agents know that then they will expect their client to be getting the same.

As someone else said Mo' Money, Mo' Problems.

So the BS deal is off .... Just go's to show that you can not believe what you read in the papers or the twitter net. Still at least SSL is still with us

And who did?

Beckford.

Why?

Because we offered him ridiculous money.

Footballers at all levels have become greedy, agents are parasites that should be banned from the sport. I honestly didn't think if Sharp was to turn us down, it'd be for the money, but there you go.

I wouldn't call the deal dead yet. I'm surprised BBC and Sky are buying into Saunders' comments, making the deal sound totally dead because Sharp "indicated" he was staying, very odd.

Do I think it'll happen though? No. Pearson won't pay over the odds and I hate to say it but I can see him coming unstuck. Every fvcker linked with this club will want over the odds money, and if Pearson won't pay it, who exactly will join us?

The only reason players want to come here now is for the £££'s and that's a problem Leicester have created for themselves, I'm glad we have Pearson as I truly believe he is one of the very few managers who can dig us out of this hole as long as he is given time, sadly that will mean writing this season off

Lets hope the owners share the same sentiments
