If Mills is kept on by Leicester he will end up a legend in the Elliot, Walsh bracket - if he is let go he will go on to be a top player for another club IMO

I actually agree with this...

Mills in a good, confident side, supported by a midfield who can actually defend will look twice the player he does at the moment.

The problem at the moment is the team... It's so disjointed, weak in certain areas and out of sorts that it's making everyone look crap.

I hope Nige makes them into something resembling an organised whole..

Woah, Woah Woah - what the **** are you talking about?

Reading didn't rate Mills, that's why he was their captain, a first team regular and they only let him go once we bid ridiculous amounts?

Their fans actually didn't rate him though, they said he was good on his day but his temperament was costly and he was too inconsistent. They were laughing all the way to the bank when we signed him.

so who do you class as a "good" manager? cos it ain't happening with the last few is it? im still waiting for somebody to take responsibility for something in this fooking world...I suppose its too much to ask for millionaire footballers to do it, why should they? when people make excuses for them.

Boring yes, but the last good manager we had was MON, a man who actually knew how to get the best out of what he had at his disposal. As for the millionaire footballers, it is getting harder for the manager to impose his influence over them, even the likes of Ferguson have found it increasingly difficult over the years.

That's just a sad reflection of the way things are now, 99% of footballers are motivated by the money and nothing else. If you're genuinely irritated by the salaries and attitude of the players nowadays then I would find a different sport to follow, cos it ain't gonna get any better.

Well said. They only 'didn't rate him' after it was clear he was on his way here.

You might have a point if they hadn't been completely right so far.

well if thats the case, we might as well pack it in, cos MON ain't coming back. perhaps the players should interview our next managerial candidates.

Don't really understand how people can go MON was the last good manager we had. Pearson did well with the team he created. Now hes been left with all Svens signings, trying to keep them happy and fit them in to a team. Gotta at least see what he does in Jan.

I remember that programme with big ron and yes he was a big time charlie. If hes as much trouble now as he was then; best just to let him go.

In Nige we trust.

If SSL has been mouthing off, then he can **** right off. Should have been grateful he was picked up by us and had good money spent on him after he was a big player in Preston's dreadful side last season. His performances so far have not been as good as Mills and big Sol and frankly, I would rather we get Tunch back in the side.

Which all started coming out after it became apparent that he was leaving - sour grapes perhaps?

And? I'd be laughing all the way to the bank if we got 5m for Bamba - not because I don't rate him, but because it would be a very, very tidy move with plenty of money to find a couple of replacements.

Posted

Maybe SSL thinks that too.

I can't say I've been any more impressed with him than with Mills so far and my first choice right now would be Bamba and Tunchev.

But SSL tried to media-talk his way into the team earlier in the season and if he's been grumbling at the training ground I can't imagine it would go down well with Pearson.

He's always talked about taking the time to sign the right type of people as well as players whatever the "right" types are for a team that shows no signs of being ruthless enough to win anything.

Whatever, I really don't see St Leger as being greatly consequential to anything and don't give a toss if he stays or goes. However good or bad he is, he's never made much impression here.

Yes, but they are both footballers who want to pass the ball out, and our current performances suggest that we want to go more direct!

Our club is in total shambles right now. SHAMBLES.

Don't panic mr Manwaring, don't panic :xmaslaugh:

God, some peep's are such drama queen's it is unbelievable.

Another rumour, this time about an under performer wanting to quit and suddenly it is 2012 :xmasohmy:

We have enough money for 3 Bamba's already, if we have the manager to find them. You wouldn't be laughing for long when we spent the £5m on someone of a similar quality to say, I dunno, St Ledger or Mills.

Sour grapes would make sense if he was playing well for us, as it is they look right and we look the stupid ones.

Now Leeds saying Kasper was crap is perhaps sour grapes, considering he's been great for us. But even then, he could still have been crap for them, and they have a good goalkeeper now.

So no, it's not sour grapes, Mills was just never that good.

But if you can convince me he's anything more than a 'hoof it and head it' centre back with little ability on the ball and a knack for poor clearances I'd like to hear it. He's been far from impressive so far and considering you didn't watch Reading week in week out last season how can you argue that what they were saying is wrong?

This doesn't surprise me, if this rumour were to be true. How can you blame a player who is being picked Internationally for the last year or so, and not getting games, and has probably been told by Trappatoni that if he wants to play and do well for his country he'll need matches and fitness. How is this blasphemy?

SSL gets stick for errors that he makes, yet people can only pick out 2/3 blatent errors that can be attributed to him, yet fail to associate blame to his CB partner for putting him in that position during those games and other games were he has managed to get some time on the field.

I have yet to see people give him credit for some outstanding interceptions, and some tireless leg work. He runs himself into the ground because usually he has to, because his partner has gone wayward.

I don't think he is the best CB in the world, but as usual it's easier to discredit someone, bash someone than give them any positive feedback which in my view outweighs his obvious flaws.

If SSL does leave the club, I'll be sad, primarily that he's Irish and it was great to have an International in the squad, but I hope he finds the right club for him, gain back his fitness and confidence, and find himself intercepting Spain's finest in the Summer.

I have one memory of SSL so far in a Foxes shirt... Against Brizzle giving the ball away on the half way line for Maynard to score.

Since then he has been OK on the odd occasion he has played, nothing more.

You seem to all forget that with the African cup of Nations starting mid January he will be needed to play instead of Bamba, so not only will he be kept, he will also get his chance to prove his point for a good few games.

i would move bamba into midfield and drop old b4 his time wellens bring in tuni to partner mills and give schlupp a run along side nugentwe then nedd to buy 1 maybe 2 wingers and a striker let becks go he just aint gonna do it for us sadly

Posted

I hope not. Apart from Bristol City at home, he has been ok for us. Personally, I would like to see him in our defence instead of Mills.

It must be hard for him though. Getting dropped when a player comes back, regardless of how you have played. I think, with Euro 2012 coming up, he needs first team football but I just hope it is with us.

When will people wake up and realise that Sol Bamba is our problem, as much as Wellens.

Cant agree with you on that one Ric.

For me, Bamba's been comfortably our best centre back this year.

That said I do feel sorry for St. Ledger; he's obviously a decent centre back at this level and deserves better than the bench at a mid-table side.

Oh Lord, not this again. He was in an interview. They asked him about Leicester. He said he wasn't happy that about not playing every week but could understand why he wasn't (because Scen ha a lot of choice, blah blah blah). It was a small part of a larger interview and he gave a perfectly reasonably answer (in my opinion). At the time people started getting furious, it was ridiculous, and now it's still coming back as him trying to "media-talk his way into the team".

Anyway, even if he has handed in a transfer request, he's got the opportunity to play at the World Cup next year and will want to get games in before that. I certainly won't begrudge him a move in that situation.

This is a tricky one, Sol's play as an individual is strong, pacy and on occassions commanding. This has saved us on many occasions.....

On the other hand his play is unpredictable and sometimes downright erratic, he may have the pace and control to get himself out of trouble but his partners don't and they mess up....... :dunno:

Sitting firmly on the fence here.........

A move would be the best thing for the player yes...

But he's a decent replacement for Mills and/or Bamba and would leave us a little short at the back if he leaves.

Again, he seems a strange signing if he is not willing to be a 'squad' player because it was clear that Sven was generally going to start with the Mills/bamba pairing..

Makes me wonder what promises may have been made to St.Ledger when he signed?

If he's adamant about going them let him. Theres no point keeping a player who doesnt want to be here...But we need to make sure we have adequate cover before he leaves..

This is the dilemma to me, if you're a centre half playing alongside Bamba, what do you do? Play deep all of the time knowing that you may be needed to potentially cover hime, thus allowing iopposing teams to play higher up the park?

Bamba's aerial ability & communication also leaves a lot to be desired, highlighted on boxing day by a) him not going for the ball that lead top their goal and b) him climbing all over Mills and Peltier on various occasions as they went for the same ball.

That said, his flair play makes him a crowd pleaser, and his gangly interceptions are excellent. See other midfield thread...

I'm sharing the splinters on the fence.
