Saxondale Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 According to Wikipedia, his full name is David Rhys George Best Cotterill! Not sure if this is a joke or if his parents were just big fans. EDIT: No, it appears to be true! http://www.swanseacity.net/page/Latest/0,,10354~1898809,00.html
s11nny Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Someone said he was a central winger earlier. I got confused.

Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Would love him here and on a free its worth a gamble. He's basically a better version of Paul Gallagher, him on one wing and a faster more skillfull winger on the other is just what we need. Very versatile too.
burni Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 would make a change if we bought a not so currently good winger and made good use out of him rather than spend 2m and turn a good player for someone else into trollop. thats hoping anyway
shilton_fox Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 would be a very good signing imo! something to prove a free agent which means he hopefully wont be a money grabbing mercenary like the players sven would have signed
Kitchandro Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 I do remember him being decent. Got a good shot on him and pretty swift If I'm not mistaken. He's only 24? He looks about 44. He seems one of those who cuts inside a lot though, we could really do with more width.
PegguyArphexad Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 He is clearly a player who would be hungry. To go from being a record signing to having your contract terminated has to be a hit on the ego. He'll want to get out on the pitch and prove the doubters wrong. I think it could be an inspired signing. I would personally put him initially on a 6 month contract and tell him that he is playing for a long-term one...
Legend_in_blue Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 If he's a free agent, one has to ask the reason why?
PegguyArphexad Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 If he's a free agent, one has to ask the reason why? What can be inferred from the article is it is simply a case of him not being able to get near the first team and wanting to move away. Swansea clearly feel that the best thing for both club and player is to let him go from his contract.
Babylon Posted 12 January 2012 Author Posted 12 January 2012 That's debatable. Pearson's signings for the Championship last time in charge were: Kennedy, Kermorgant, Gallagher, Wellens, Neilson, Adjarevic, Weale, Brown, N'Guessan, Solano Only Gallagher and Wellens were a success and the majority want rid now. The stand out players he brought in were always on loan. When almost every player you buy is on a free, you will get some that don't work. The likes of Dyer, Brown, Weale, Morrison did good jobs for us. Others like Solano and DNG also played their part. We did well with these players lets not forget. Wellens, Gally and Hobbs cost money and also did very well for us. If they went to shit when he left that's not his fault.
Leicfox Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 out of interest does he play on the right, left, or both? Left winger..But as I posted before Swansea did play him behind the front two.
Happy Fox Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 http://forum.planetswans.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=115012 Swansea fans view Waste of talent. Could have contributed a lot last season if we'd stuck him in the hole behind the striker instead of leaving him out wide, but it all worked out in the end. What a big disappointment he has been He has been the same with every club he has played for Always has plenty of potential but doesn't look like filling it Seems to be a journey man already at 24 Cotterill has undoubted talent but lacked a bit of grit in his game. I can't quite remember which game it was down at the Liberty, he was put through out wide and 2 defenders closed in on him in a sandwich movment. He decided to pull out rather than take the foul which was obviously coming, which would have given us a free kick in an advantageous position. In other words he sh*t out, I never had the same look on him after that .... and it looks like Brendan didn't either, as he hauled him off shortly afterwards and I don't think he played many games after that, if any. I wish David all the very best in his quest for another club, but my advise to him is, for what it's worth "grow a pair"
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 If he's a free agent, one has to ask the reason why? Being a free agent doesnt mean your a bad player. Players like Nigel Reo Coker, Seb Larsson, Patrick Veira, Woodgate, Owen Hargreves were all free agents in the summer, does that mean they arent good enough for leicester?

Should fit straight in
Gar Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Swansea fan in peace here... Cotterill is a very decent player at Championship level. He was brought in under Sousa when our short was threadbare and he did pretty well under him, we played a much slower, less technical game back then. Last season he was pretty good under Brendan too, at the start of thee season especially. BR played him more central and it brought the best out his passing, I think it's where he's best tbh. Strengths: Passing, not bad set pieces, rocket of a shot, decent amount of pace. Weaknesses: Consistency, workrate, strength, dribbling (for a winger).
HoustonFox Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Sign him up I say - after a successful trial that is. If he doesn't cut the mustard, we say no thanks and we carry on looking, no loss. Wales international though and had a few moves, hopefully he'll be a "Reverse Beckford"
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 He's a good start. Probably will end up hating him though as it looks like he's just another Gallagher
CupidStunt Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Never heard of him, not a player that sticks in my mind, not exactly going to set the world on fire and light up the championship is he. Maybe Peasron could bring the best out of him, just like the good job he did with the other decent winger i will not care to mention
fox_favourite Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Thought Sousa signed Kennedy? Nope he was signed by Pearson just before he left the 1st time
Number 6 Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Nope he was signed by Pearson just before he left the 1st time My bad
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 Could be interesting i suppose, will leave it to the experts, iver never heard of him . . . . . . . .
Cropwellfox Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 He's a young international winger who has played a significant part in a promotion winning team's season, and cost big bucks only a couple of years ago. He's got something to prove and plays in a position where we desperately need help. Would be great if he joined.
Bert Posted 12 January 2012 Posted 12 January 2012 We have Gallagher, Dyer, King & Beckford that wont put a foot in. Should fit straight in King won't put a foot in? What games do you go?
