The Year Of The Fox Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 Agree, agree. If Kasper got injured, we would be in real trouble, he has pulled off some wonder saves in numerous games. Whereas I think if we had to, we could go without Mills for a game or 2 and have... I hear a lot of stick for Mills in the crowd and on here. His passing was terrible but his sonar seems to be working a bit better now. His defending has always been great for us. However, his choice of words isn't particularly inspiring 'decent.' I would go as far to say he has been 'good.' The only thing I don't like about him, is that he doesn't seem to interact with the fans, maybe its just me but I've never seen him come over to fans at the end of the game, neither do any of them to be fair except for the legend that is schmike. Konchesky always does, as do danns and nugent
Leicester_Loyal Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 Decent is the best way to describe him for us this season. He hasn't been brilliant, but he hasn't been as poor as some make out. His red cards have been bad, and his distribution isn't very good either. However, he wins some good balls, is nearly always the last man back making the last ditch tackle. Worth what we paid for him? No. Worth about 2.5-3m? Yes. But we overpaid. Hopefully he becomes better.
Bryn Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 I think he has a fair point. He's been pretty solid, if we'd picked him up on the cheap we'd be quietly happy. His distribution has improved here and he's improved generally under Pearson. And while there have been iffy moments our defence isn't the reason we're struggling. That said, he has got himself sent off at incredibly inopportune moments and must bear some responsibility for a series of spineless displays we've seen, particularly after going a goal down, as captain. I've thought for a while that Mills still has a lot to learn. He's 25 but plays like a grizzled veteran, he probably won't peak til somewhere between 27 and 32. I fancy Pearson to turn him into quite a player in this time.

Price tags are very overated nowadays! Look at caroll 35 mil. Had a decent year in the championship. Then a good start to the prem and hes then worth that. ! Ridiculous! His distribution is 100 times better than wayne brown hobbs and morrison. I like him. Him and ssl will form a good partnership as the other end of the pitch is becoming too. Beckford/nugent.
liamsm Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 He has been good, positionally he is superb, we have seen this with the amount of blocks and tackles he makes each game. His two reds have come from a desire to win the ball for the team, I can guarentee we'd be moaning a lot more if he wasn't going in to win these sort of challenges, keep it up Mills! " His two reds have come from a desire to win the ball for the team," I'm sure for one of the red cards he had allready won the ball and then kicked out afterwards at the oppossing player, how is that winning the ball for the team?
Legend_in_blue Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 He's brilliant at defending against typical in your face, hoofball opposition strikers. Anything with pace though and on the floor and I begin to worry.
kingfox Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 He is overrated and a waste of money. He can't pass and he plays way too much hoof ball. BUT...our defensive record with him in defence is exceptional, and defending wise tackling and blocking shots has been very good. I haven't been impressed, I prefer St Ledger to him a mile off, but Mills does have some aspects which he is very good at.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 Mills is the best of a ropey defence that has shown no consistency.
shade Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 let's be honest, he's very much run of the mills.
Dan Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 If we'd paid £1mil, everyone would be saying he's a steal. We've just got to accept that Sven was an idiot, he DID pay over the odds for him and with that, people think worse of Mills whenever he lets you down. So, again, I believe his criticism is a lot down to Sven, he's not totally innocent obviously but Sven is the one who's paid the silly money. He's very good anyway, he has his off days but generally solid.

Oh and his pass for Lloyds goal against Barnsley, that was also shit wasn't it.
sharpie Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 he has had 2 decent games and everyone seems to love him now, i think he has had a poor season, he is not a leader, he distribution is awful, he has got a bad attitude, gets turned to easy, is slow and poor decision making. Its not his fault we paid to much for him but i just think he is poor, last 2 games st ledge has been the best player in the back for and he has not even been playing often. Bamba and st ledge best partnership for defence.
flowwolf Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 If paying 5 million only gets you only a decent player what would we have to pay to get a good or excellent player ? The money we paid for this "decent " player was actually " indecent "
ajthefox Posted 26 January 2012 Posted 26 January 2012 Fair enough comments and I think he'll only get better as time passes and the team becomes more of a team as opposed to a group of players as it has been previously.
seenitall Posted 27 January 2012 Posted 27 January 2012 Always rated him - he was doing do or die tackles in the pre season games and seems to want the ball and to win - its only those that want us to sign cheap lower league players with some kind of utopian dream or delusion that they will discover lots of Matt Elliot alikes by doing so, who are upset by the transfer fee that grows by half a million a month (3.5 to 5 - should be 6 by the end of Feb). If an owner gives you 10 m to strengthen your squad should you a. spend it and strengthen the squad or b. save it for a rainy day and buy some cheap crap players and get slagged off for that instead (the answer for most City fans is b.)
Webbo Posted 27 January 2012 Posted 27 January 2012 Mills is a good defender and his distribution is no worse than any other centre half in this division and better than a lot as his 2 superb assists in the last 3 games prove.
Tielemans63 Posted 27 January 2012 Posted 27 January 2012 I think the criticism has really stung him - you can tell by his post-match interviews - he never seems to be enjoying it and often talks about the stick he and his teammates have received. Apologies if anyone has already made this point, I can't be arsed to check.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 27 January 2012 Posted 27 January 2012 i rate Mills as a decent defender and i believe he will only get better here in time, fair dues he has had a fair few shockers this season though!!!
Captain... Posted 27 January 2012 Posted 27 January 2012 Two assists in two league games. 2 assists in 26 games " His two reds have come from a desire to win the ball for the team," I'm sure for one of the red cards he had allready won the ball and then kicked out afterwards at the oppossing player, how is that winning the ball for the team? His first was out of frustration at his own and others poor performances and was a very dangerous tackle. Against Hull, if it was deliberate it was unforgiveable and cost us that game and arguably the following games too, but I am not convinced it was a conscious act and I think he was hard done by. He's brilliant at defending against typical in your face, hoofball opposition strikers. Anything with pace though and on the floor and I begin to worry. At this level you don't get the complete player, everyone has their flaws, Walsh was never that good against pace, which is why he needs a faster partner, it's why I think that Bamba and Mills should be a great partnership at the back, but as yet they haven't quite matched the sum of their parts.
Jollie Posted 27 January 2012 Posted 27 January 2012 Is this over confidence? Was he decent against Real Madrid-NO, was he decent when Michael Mansett was raping him against Reading-NO. Has he personally cost us about 9 points-YES. He's played well 4 or 5 times that's all... Come on man keep your trap shut.
