volpeazzurro Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 No need whatsover to be disappointed. All potentially good business. We of course don't know what was or wasn't available either money wise or player wise. What wasn't good business was initially giving all that money to that half wit Ericsson, I shan't expand on that because it's boring old news now. These last few deals all seem more credible and we'll have to wait and see, but I for one feel a lot more comfortable and optimistic with these one's.
Haydos Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 If we were three points off sixth place it would be nice.....! That was my point...He said if we won tomorrow we'd only go up to 12th....but that's 3 points off 6th. (it's 4, Swear it was 3 when I posted that )
foxfanazer Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 If those players were realisticly available im sure we would of brought them in, I think the players we brought in were good signings. i would rather just a few good signings than collecting players like we did the last transfer window. Whilst i agree we didnt have an overwelming transfer window im still very excited to see how our new signings do in the upcomming weeks as they all look like they could be class! I think we played this window right IMO This
cc_star Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Delfouneso is only here for a month aswell Have I missed something, is it impossible to extend Fonz's deal? Dyer has been really the past few games now that the whole team seems to have changed mentality, anyone better than him would be a name & name's got us nowhere in the summer and looking at the lack of movement in the transfer market would have been impossible to prise away from their club as their club doesn't have replacement's lined up Gally's been good too (not so good against Swindon where he seemed to be playing through his back injury) & will be more than adequate backup should something happen to Marshall The team mentality & shape appears to be better than at any time since Pearson last left, except we have better players now than then & now that they've started playing the right way with movement & desire & have been further strengthened in the middle & out-wide, with cover added at the back & up front... we're much stronger than we were a couple of weeks ago & all without signing another multimillion pound player on 40 grand a week pissing off everyone else in the squad who isn't on that much. Personally I'm far more excited about signing a couple of 20 year olds who are not only more than useful now, but could also grow into a great players & be with us for a decade or more, much more excited than signing a premier league bench warmer who we have to bribe with a double your wage offer to step down to the Championship... which history has proved didn't work out to well for us.
mrmagoomc4 Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 cmon foxes only one new signing we are starting too look a formidable team to play with 2 more it will only get better pearson seems to off sorted out the defence with quality on the bench,,,,midfield is looking more exciting dyers a live wire no defender loves playing against him the more confident he gets the better he will play,,,our strikers are hitting the net ,,,,our keeper is superb,,, you dont need big signings to get out of the championship you need players who will fight for each other , west ham lost 5-1 tonight i cant see any team beating us 5-1 at mo can you ?????
Basingstoke Fox Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Didn't you also start the Pearson out threads after the Barnsley game? Give it time! We will get there as a club eventually and I firmly believe in what NP is trying to build here with some quality young players. I'd rather give it a go for the rest of this season and see where we are as a team than get Yakubu, Bruma, PVA etc. all in on loan only for them to go to different clubs in the summer meaning we have to start all over again! If the right players were available at the right price, I'm sure we would've gone for it. I was getting sick of seeing our club being held to ransom and I'm glad that we've approached this window with much more caution.
iancognito Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Why do some of our fans think that our scouting and management team are simply ignoring all these world beating strikers, midfielders and wingers? There's just not enough of these players and certainly very few that would warrant first team status. I think most Championship teams would be pleased with a midfield to choose from Wellens, Gally, Drinkwater, Dyer, Marshall, King and Danns. Sounds very strong to me... This. +1 We've got rid of players not getting a game too such as Abe , Ball and Fernandes so things have been freshened up. DEF - Mills, St Ledger, Bamba, Morgan, Tunchev, Konchesky, Peltier, Kennedy & Pantsil MID - Wellens, King, Dyer, Drinkwater, Marshall, Danns & Gallagher STR - Nugent, Beckford, Waghorn, Delfonouso, Schlupp, Howard That's a pretty strong squad I reckon, it's only the first half of the season results that will hold that team back. It's alright bringing players in but they have to be better or different than what we have and I'm not sure those type of players are available.
m00nie Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 why do people assume just because were dissapointed that we wanted BIG name players etc.. im happy with whos came in, and its good to see hungry players, but would have still preferred more in (and out) in the past few games dyer and gally (albeit the last one) may have looked better but how many of you was really fully happy with them before that?? would have liked to see another winger and certainly would have liked someone to replace howard, its ok talking about schulpp, waggy, maybe even fonz but they just seem like for like with nug.becks.. what happens if we need to switch to a big man up front.. loads were saying wait till the transfer and NP will bring in his players, but seems hes happy sticking with the "old crew" again..
m00nie Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 This. +1 We've got rid of players not getting a game too such as Abe , Ball and Fernandes so things have been freshened up. DEF - Mills, St Ledger, Bamba, Morgan, Tunchev, Konchesky, Peltier, Kennedy & Pantsil MID - Wellens (needs rests as cant handle full weeks) , King(out for season apparently), Dyer(fast, looked better lately, still cant cross), Drinkwater, Marshall, Danns & Gallagher (hit and miss, how many people saying hes not up to it yet now people using him as example as good to have) STR - Nugent, Beckford, Waghorn(injured), Delfonouso(month loan, who knows if poss for longer), Schlupp(injured), Howard (past it) That's a pretty strong squad I reckon, it's only the first half of the season results that will hold that team back. It's alright bringing players in but they have to be better or different than what we have and I'm not sure those type of players are available. defence seems sorted, midfield and upfront seems issues for me still..
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 1 February 2012 Author Posted 1 February 2012 Haha love how people are jumping to conclusions again. Not once have I slagged off or moaned at the signings or ask for big name signings, i was just wondering if others were maybe a bit disappointed. Me personally I'm happy, I just wish we got a target man, another winger and potentially another centre midfielder as I said in my original post.
topharry123 Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Pretty pleased. We didn't need a whole load of new big name signings to come in and disrupt the squad. We've got a winger which we needed, and cover for other positions that is always good to have. The team we have have shown the last three games that we can play a great game, and granted 2 of them were against weak opposition but we still played good football. As someone above said, it's the first half of the season that will hold us back. Right now we have as strong a squad as anyone else in the division and i would bet that we'll make the playoffs come the end of the season.
yorkie1999 Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Really happy with this transfer window. Np has strengthened our week areas and brought in a quality striker as a backup. We can't keep changing the team every window cos we'll never get anywhere, too much disruption. We've now got a balanced side with some decent academy players we can bring through as well. What we now need is momentum and the ****in crowd to get behind them, no booing etc and we might just get somewhere. We don't need a squad of a million players, we can only play 11 so lets just get behind them, forget about what every other team is doing, enjoy the ride and stop being such a miserable moaning bunch of c*nts.
OLD norfox Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Not disapointed . How many times in the last decade haven't we seen our best players been sold ?? During this window none of our best players gone. We have added 4 players too the squad and players from the academy seems promising. And we are just a few points from a play-off place. Stay positive
yorkie1999 Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 And whoever keeps posting ****ing graphs about our prospects and statistics, you are one boring knob.
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 I think two things: The squad looks more balanced, We look more like a team... This will do for now IMO. It's a step above what we had under Sven anyway.. We are moving in the right direction IMO.
Thracian Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 It was inevitable that we'd be limited by our league position. But at least Pearson's not gone round wasting money or recruiting people who don't have any apparent purpose. Hope springs eternal but we're real outsiders for promotion and if the boss manages it with what we've got it will be a significant achievement. As ever we just don't have enough goals in the side. Even if Nugent/Beckford finally cog in together we don't have enough goals coming from elsewhere - Pearson's eternal Achilles heel. And you can forget the 8-0 aggregate for the last three games. Two of those were cup matches against modest opposition and the other against a much weakened Southampton. Encouraging, yes, but Pearson doesn't do decisive wins very often in the league. He's cagey which means the opposition nearly always have a chance.
Ric Flair Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Was generally excited when the transfer window opened but am I the only one who's been left disappointed? Drinkwater and Ben Marshall LOOK promising but I still don't feel we have strengthened enough to see us challange for the play offs. I was hoping Steve Walsh could pull off a couple of master classess and find us a few hidden gems but instead we've been left with another center half and a striker who will only be here for another 3 weeks! Another winger, possibly a center midfielder and a target man are still needed IMO. Hoping we can now use the loan market but that's defeating the object of building a squad. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't hidden gems, relatively unknown players? The exact description of Drinkwater and Marshall.
I am Rod Hull Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 A year of Sven glamour has turned some fans into spoilt brats....
Nick Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 I'm frankly happy we didn't lose players though I was hoping for a Stella deal........
Len Finsbury Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 I understand what the OP is on about when he claims he's disappointed. This year was not nearly as exciting as last year's January transfer window. I think some people were hoping for at least someone with some Premier League experience. If we still have the money available, why not spend it? It's certainly not mathematically impossible for us the reach the play offs so everything to go for. If the owners trust NP, they should have gone for it.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 We bought well. We weren't held to ransom. We didn't bring in players who don't want to play for us. We bought young hungry players which is what we need for the long end of this season. The windows closed. Theres no need crying over spilt milk we didn't buy 20 players i was surprised we signed 3 we did well and we will put these signings into affect this season there is no point buying nearly players or lazy ones. Keep the faith support every player cheer every win and support through thick and thin. Theres always the summer when the real rebuilding will begin.
Babylon Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't hidden gems, relatively unknown players? The exact description of Drinkwater and Marshall. Saved me the trouble of mentioning it.
FrankieADZ Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 Im a little disappointed but then again....rather us buy quality than crap; & hopefully when the injured crop come back it will be like new signings hopefully
Fox92 Posted 1 February 2012 Posted 1 February 2012 I am slightly disappointed also, but take into consideration what the owners have spent since joining. I am still hopeful we can make the play offs though, just need that bit of consistancy which seems to ok within the last few games.
