Glasgow Rangers Administration

The reason I don't care for it? It was boring before, I have simply stated the fact it has become even more boring now.

Problem?

I dunno, I'm still looking at the sporting headlines and sniggering a little.

Can't see them actually going under, but if they do, then maybe an AFC Rangers sort of club would immediately join the SPL. What neutrals would want to watch the SPL when there are no old firms? Celtic will just run away with it every year and it will become an even bigger joke. Also, I doubt sky will continue funding the SPL without the old firm games. Crowds, would go down etc. Just makes no sense for them to leave. As for either of them joining the english leagues, where do you draw the line? Completely unethical and won't happen

If Sky wanted it to happen, it would happen. But they know that the Football League, not to mention various police forces, would fight the move.

Little bit contradictory.

I don't know how many of you frequent SPL matches, but speaking from (some) experience, based on absolutely all factors (size of weekly crowd, perception amongst rival teams, importance worldwide etc), Rangers going into administration is literally (and I use the word "literally" in its literal sense) the equivalent of Man City going into administration. You might laugh, but we're talking hundreds of jobs at the stadium week-in-week-out, a team that hundreds of thousands of people support worldwide, a national institution and one of the main reasons Scotland's population is still able to see professional (well, almost) football every weekend.

I'd say it's actually a pretty sad state of affairs and not one to scoff at, but that's just me.

I laughed at first when I heard/read about what is happening, but you're right. This is actually a BIG BIG deal, with serious implications.

My lord I knew they were an ugly bunch but that video is taking the piss.

Much funnier than it has any right to be I agree.

Any other set of fans celebrating their rivals going into admin would look like a bunch of cvnts but with Celtic it seems to work.

I think liquidation's a realistic option. The owners will be eyeing a small L2/L3 club as in the Airdrie > Clydebank > Airdrie Utd precedent set ten years ago. The realistic target might be Queens Park, conveniently based in Glasgow. They could change the club colours and club name, and get dispensation to move the home games to Hampden, whilst some rich sucker lends them the money to build a new stadium.

Plus ça change.

Rangers have been allowed to treat incredible tax debts like scofflaws with speeding tickets for years. Most other business would have been long shut down with jobs long since gone.

I'm sorry, but I feel no sympathy for Rangers. They're getting off lucky and they're going to be allowed to dictate a lot of the terms of their bankruptcy settlements. Dundee were constantly humiliated by HMRC and the SFA but both of those parties so often turned a blind eye towards all of the shit Rangers were doing until it became too late. Dundee got a 25-pt penalty for going into administration for the 2nd time in, what, seven years for a tax bill of, what, 350k? Meanwhile, Rangers have been teetering on the brink for years, had an even more insane transfer policy, and have run up a tax bill that's about the GDP of a Central American country.

Edit to add that the rationale for Craig Whyte avoiding criminal charges was because he and Rangers had it on their books that they "paid" taxes on wages etc., but never paid them, yet it's OK because they "accounted" for those taxes? What?!

Pardon my ignorance if I don't have my facts right. From what I know, though, some things here seem very much amiss.

I'd love to watch Inverness v Dunfermiline.

Having been born in Dunfermline and kept up support of the Pars since moving to England I should try and defend the team somewhat, but they really have been spectacularly dire this season. Doesn't help that Rangers going into admin means we might lose out on £80,000 worth of gate receipts that they owe us...
