Mack Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 What on earth were the board at Wolves thinking when they sacked Mick Mccarthy as their Manager? OK they lost heavily to their local rivals but the decisions made since his sacking have just about sealed their fate as a Championship club for next season. Some half decent Managers were up for the Wolves job until their board refused to offer a contract beyond the end of the season. Who did they expect would take the job with no faith being shown in their long term ability? Then there was the Steve Bruce debacle. Now they've got a coach in charge who is clearly out of his depth. I have no idea which of the goons at Wolves is pulling the strings, however they are going to get what they deserve... relegation. Should have stuck with Mccarthy in my opinion.
The People's Hero Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 Agreed Mack. Very shortsighted and reactionary.
Bert Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 I find it even more baffling that they've appointed his right hand man as assistant. He's going to have pretty much the same ideas etc. I'll be glad to see them go down.
Matt Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 Tbh I don't take alot of notice of Blackburn, I don't really know what the situation is, I don't know how they are playing but looking at where they were and where they are now - whilst still not being out of trouble Blackburn probably did the right thing in sticking with Kean, alot of clubs and fans could learn something from that - including some of our own fans. As we're not talking about Blackburn, we're talking about Wolves, yes sacking Mick McCarthy was a very silly thing to do.
NeilyBoy Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 Admins, can you remove the errant "what" which the OP accidentally put in the topic title? Cheers. Incidentally; no, no they weren't.
Corky Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 It's the replacement of him with his assistant that is strange. What would he bring in that the players wouldn't have seen or heard before? Sometimes a totally fresh face is needed.
Fox92 Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 They haven't been good enough for the last few seasons anyway, well, since they got promoted, in my opinion. I have tipped them for relegation every season they have been in the Premier League, and they have only just survived each year. Really think they will be relegated this season now.
The People's Hero Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 I think WWFC have basically relegated themselves with a series of baffling decisions. The chap they have in charge there is likeable - and I gather well liked and respected, but I'd suggested he's not only out of his depth but also echo what others say - he's likely to have many of the same ideas/methods as MM. What it seemed to need there was someone to come in, quickly reorganise and re-energise and bring fresh ideas, much like MON has done at Sunderland. I'm hoping Blackburn stay up - would be pleased to see both Wolves and Bolton drop. We'll see.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 Wolves seem to enjoy self destructing every know and then the thin I find shocking is the atmosphere at home as soon as they kicked off the crowd were just waiting to boo for something anything. I'm not sure if the "protest" before kick off helped either, at the end of the day MM was good for wolves and they shouldn't of got rid
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 Had protests at the game yesterday too i think against Morgan
purpleronnie Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 I thought it probably was the right decision, they were really struggling anyway and some of the players mccarthy purchased were really poor.
Unabomber Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 I only used to like them cos of Mick, so now I hope they relegated as 1) they're shit and 2) it would serve their owner right. Also you would've thought that to sack their manager at this stage of the season and in the position they are in they would have had a clear idea on who they would be appointing. Turns out they turned down everyone who approached them and everyone who they approached turn them down!
acooling08 Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 I want Wolves to stay up, purely to increase the chances of QPR being relegated.
Kitchandro Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 I don't think sacking him was a terrible decision. He'd had long enough and they were still struggling at the bottom. They weren't making any progress and were defending shockingly, and losing 5-1 at home to local rivals is awful. But appointing this bloke was a poor decision.
Salieri Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 I don't think they were necessarily wrong to give MM the boot, but appointing the assistant who is clearly out of his depth was a baffling decision. Hope they go down anyway, can't stand them.
oxford blue Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 Interesting article by the 'Secret Footballer' in Saturday's Guardian - always interesting http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/mar/09/the-secret-footballer Essentilly, never appoint number 2 as a replacement for manager
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 The Wolves board have been left with egg on their faces, the sacking of Mcarthy and the search for a new boss has been a complete fiasco and left them looking like amateurs, they deserve to get relegated I have always assumed most well run clubs already have a new man lined up before sacking their manager, which is a harsh reality of football. The promotion of the assistant manager smacks of a club resigned to its relegation fate, what a poor side they must be to get relegated from probably the weakest premier league ever.
Gold Coast Fox Posted 11 March 2012 Posted 11 March 2012 They were thinking managers would be applying for the job in the hundreds... turns out even steve bruce didn't want it. You know you're in the s*** when bruce turns you down
RonnieTodger Posted 13 March 2012 Posted 13 March 2012 Seems to be a bit of a trend in football at the minute, sacking the manager and appointing one of the coaching staff. Blackburn, Coventry and Wolves. I certainly think Blackburn and Coventry did it to save money. Dont think I can say the same for Wolves

Steve Kean at Blackburn got the ear of the new owners and stabbed Allardyce in the back (Allegedly)
Out Foxed Posted 13 March 2012 Posted 13 March 2012 on the guardian football weekly podcast one of the journos said the blackburn fans were chanting keans name during the game (in a positive way) couldn't help but laugh at that.
