Blackpool post match.

A great game for the neutral football fan, but a defensive shambles on both sides.

I can but praise the willingness and dedication going forward, but Beckford's sloppy sideways pass that found nobody initiated Blackpool's quick attack on the right that led to their first goal. A goal Schmeichel, who came up with a couple of great saves from long-distance shots in the second half, could do nothing against.

For most parts, I thought we dominated the game and had more possession than the home side (even though the BBC has the Tangerines down with 60%, which is a blatant lie).

Yet three silly sudden spells and a certain defensive naïvety cost us dearly. We should've beaten Blackpool the way they played.

That even Bednar, the more-miss-than-hit striker put one past us, shows you where the issue really lies. But it was bound to happen, he once played for us - unsuccessfully.

Our defense is cack. I'd excempt Konchesky from this critique, because he played rather well. Even though he went forward a lot, he always backtracked or had Dyer taking up his spot occassionally.

The biggest pile of work has to be done in the middle and on the right. Morgan, St. Ledger and Peltier got skinned way too often and were either rather lazy or too slow. Peltier is usually exposed on the right, because he doesn't know how to close the gaps he leaves behind when attacking.

I'd also like to ask Pearson why he came up with two late substitutions AGAIN. What good does it do to give Schlupp and Bamba only four, five minutes of match experience? Their late substitutions destroyed the whole impetus that the team had built up to this point. We were fantastic, we were in control - and then it went all down the drain in extra-time.

It was also thanks to a silly loss of possession in the middle/right that led to Blackpool's third and last equalizer. And I bet Bamba isn't innocent in the build-up to this goal at all.

A lack of concentration and a silly attitude towards the game and the result were the main reasons why last night ended on a rather frustrating note.

We had a great momentum attacking-wise, with Beckford and Nugent both on fire, Danns and Drinkwater leading the midfield (apart from one, two nice passes, Wellens was being his usual poor self). Dyer? Well, I think he could've done more and was less effective today, usually cancelled out by the Blackpool defense.

But, hey - playoffs still mathematically possible.

Bamba and Mills anybody....

Massive over reaction because of a late goal. If it had been us getting a last minute draw I'm sure a lot of these posts would be massively different. Most of us would have taken a point from tonight per match, we're just pissed that we fooked it up in the last min.

Looking at the run in I don't think we should fear anyone. We have a good run of home games now to try and get a run going and the only two teams that should worry us are Leeds and West Ham. Well West Ham is at home and Leeds got hit for 7 by Forest. And you never know, by the last two games of the season we might be in a good position and playing with belief and confidence, who knows?! Plenty to play for still. So why all the negativity?

As for next season, a couple of defensive signings and a midfielder or two and we should be laughing. No need for a squad revolution like last summer. I think Pearson knows where he's going with this squad and in Marshall and Drinkwater he's started the new build. More than could be said of Sven or Paulo, or in my opinion anyone else that we could employ.

Under normal circumstances I agree a point at Blackpool would be a good result, but we desperately needed to win last night, not sure about only having Leeds and West Ham to worry about, our record against the lower sides is pretty poor bar Coventry and Forest, the likes of Peterboro, Millwall, Barnsley, Bristol City, Doncaster, Portsmouth have all given us plenty of problems. We have been consistantly inconsistant for 2 seasons now which is so frustrating, we always seem to be on the brink of moving up the division only to blow the opportunity every time.

I am sure we will beat Hull and everyones hopes will be up and then we play Peterboro..............

I'm going to stay positive by thinking of it this way . IF we beat Hull that will be 7 points from 9 in the league , now if the had offered me that before Birmingham i think I would of been happy .

Not read this thread, can't bear the thought of how miserable it will be. You've just got to laugh I think, last minute goal, it was always going to happen. It's just not happening this year.

Anyway, anyone got any highlights yet or will we have to wait for the bbc website?

We actually played really well last night I thought. It was just our pathetic excuse for defending for that 3rd goal that let us down.

who in their right ****ing mind makes 2 substitutions on 87 and 88 minutes ?

you either do them at around 65-80 minutes depending on tiredness of players otherwise save them for ****ing time wasting in the dying minutes i.e injury time when your desperate

this is leicesters problem.... trying to defend from deep late in a match it just invites everybody to attack grrr pearson you clueless ****er

Funny how we have been leaking goals since Wes Morgan joined and Mills was given the cold shoulder.

Think Morgan is still a Forest fan and is happy letting us lose. FFS Pearson even if Mills was shagging your misses you must realise that we need him back in our defence.

Oh feck off you imbecile. Mills has been very ordinary since he's joined, and most of the people calling for him to be brought back in were moaning about him being in the team.

Oh how I love being a Leicester fan.

I just don't get Pearson's substitutions. Do you think he was already thinking of running the clock down? He must have known there was a decent amount of injury time? If they were tactical he got this totally wrong taking off two players who can keep the ball upfield and effectively invited Blackpool onto us.

The annoying thing is that i can see us beating Hull, Posh and Forest, which i think will leave us 2/3 points off the PO's if results go the way they should do!

I might be mad in thinking we can win 3 in a row, but do think we will at least get 7 points so 2 more last night would have been great, but thats just typical us.

Season should be over but its really still hanging by a thread, we need to win on Saturday and not lose again, though its unlikely.

I've just read a few of the threads and see a pretty mixed bag of objectiveness, over reaction and moans - as per usual on here!

It was a result that did rather sum up this season in a nutshell though, scoring for fun but still managing to concede last minute levellers! Sure, we'd have taken a point before the start in all likelihood but with the way the game went thereafter with their 90th minute equaliser from "le veteran" K.Phillips (who else?!), then it was definitely two points dropped - AGAIN! - and AGAIN we couldn't capitalise on most of the teams above us all slipping up the night before. When I was listening to the momentary updates on Radio 5 Live last night in my car and we went 1-2 ahead I then thought we'd go onto win it. I missed the final results there and then due to being otherwise engaged but then getting home and switching on the Sky Sports News results, my heart sank a little.

Yes, still mathematically possible and all that and it's very much as you were between us and 6th place still but the task is looking more forlorn with every passing week with our continually shooting ourselves in the foot! Still, on the plus side it looks as if everybody above us is determined to follow suit too - but our luck like that will run out before long if we're not careful. With Dull City and Peterborough being equally very winnable or very losable games, who knows where we'll be this time in two weeks?! Probably still in 11th.

Should be talking about the Beckford and Nuge partnership that is really started to take off but instead its a defensive shambles yet again, I backed the return of Pearson but his "dont concede" attitude is starting to annoy me greatly, rather than go in search of a fourth goal to kill it, he mixes it up on 85 minutes.

Wellens passes are not sophisticated enough for this level, its predictable stuff and the midfield is also putting pressure on a defence that looks like it can cave in everytime opponents get in the last third. We appear to be a weaker unit without King and Abe doing the donkey work in front of the back four.

It is a brainless thing to do and something designed to eat up time but is far more likely to be destructive to us than the opposition. It really is time we cut out such crap. It was bad enough watching us get relegated cos we tried to run the clock down against Charlton (if memory serves) and, instead, conceded a late goal and took one point instead of three. But I don't harbour much hope. We never seem to learn we just follow the current fashion like sheep.

In fact you're right, thinking about it, we're just shit at timewasting!

Taking it to the corner, running down the clock, keeping possession, lapping up applause from last minute substitutions etc, we're shit at all that. If we sort that we'd get 10 more points at least per season (may not be totally accurate).

All depends what you're views on 'timewasting' are?

I've always considered that getting the ball into the corner and putting fellas round it to block any opposition getting to it is just 'obstruction' and should be treated as such.

I'd rather see 90 odd mins of proper football than what, to my mind, is another example of cheating.

It's not cheating, it's being clever, astute. Everyone else does it brilliantly, especially if we're losing at home, yet we've got players sprinting on and off in the 89th minute. They should spend at least 30 seconds lapping up their standing ovation etc. Being honest will get us nowhere. You've gotta be gritty, dirty and grind results out as well as play good football. Just ask QPR, Newcastle, West Brom, West Ham etc.

We're still too naïve.

Agree completely Scouse... The fact that its allowed in the game means that we are naive if we don't do it to, whilst other teams do.

Sprinting on! makes me think of 'Roy of the Rovers'

lol

But I reckon I still don't think it should be in the rules and should be seen as obstruction IMO.

Always thought that to be honest.

its not the problem of making them, its the problem of timing... make them in injury time and walk off the damned pitch lol... save a sub for the 3rd minute of a 3 minute injury period, that kind of thing... waste time... not 3-4 minutes before the final whistle... clueless lol

What a proud moment. Knew we'd get there eventually!

For the record, yeah, it's a bit shitty, but that's the name of the game these days. We'll catch on soon, I hope!
