Saxondale Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Whether you like it or not, we all basically become our parents. What things do you say that your parents used to say to you when you were a kid? My most commonly used 'Dadisms' are: When my GF is moaning incessantly - "Give it a rest!" When somebody is vocally searching for a misplaced item - "Look with your eyes, not with your mouth!"
I am Rod Hull Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Mumism: When playing up - "my hand will come off your face in a minute"
AoWW Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Not quite the same thing but my Mum still nags me about not wearing a coat / wearing inappropriate shoes, etc. I don't have kids, but I'm sure if I did I'd say exactly the same thing to them in a classic 'do as I say, not as I do' way.
Rincewind Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 They don't make music like they used to. I used to be your age once
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Not quite the same thing, but my parents used to say about music I listened to, that it had meaningless words, that you couldn't understand what they were singing. Now I throw back in their face - Do Wah Diddy Diddy and Be Bop A Lula to name a couple. And when they said my music all sounds the same I point them in the direction of the back catalogue of Chuck Berry (basic 3 pieces of music, but with different words over the top to make lots of songs.)
James. Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Don't do up your coat yet or you won't feel the benefit.
Webbo Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 Don't do up your coat yet or you won't feel the benefit. I remember that one. Another one was "I'll give you such a sender in a minute".
purpleronnie Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 'Stop pulling faces, if the wind changes it will stay like that' 'Are you catching flies' (a response to having your mouth open). And who could forget the classic - 'stop punching your brother in the face'.
21st Century Fox Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 "You'll go blind and your palms will go hairy" I say that to myself at least four times a day.
Rincewind Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 If you don't stop crying I'll give you something to cry about. Don't have anyone to say this to though. Although if I did I would probably be done for cruelty. Something that should be in the getting old thread which I have tried not to say and rarely is said to me now. From shopkeepers or barstaff. 'Thank young man' 'thank you love' or real Leicester 'Cheers me duck.'
Daggers Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 That Margaret Thatcher was a brave lady who made a marvellous contribution to improving the economy of Great Britain and increased its standing globally.
lavrentis Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 "We are always right". To be fair, they pretty much are always right. Especially my mum, never underestimate life experience!!
jonthefox Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 what time did you get in last night, couldn't you make it to the toilet and who the fook is she?.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 My foster dad used to say."Always stand up for what you truly believe in". I have always strived to do this, even though it can cause friction on occasions.
Daggers Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 My Dad always said that it's far better for people to think you are an idiot than stand up for what you truly believe in and confirm it.
sphericalfox Posted 3 April 2012 Posted 3 April 2012 This idea got turned into an awful sitcom starring William Shatner. Still pretty funny fella though
