...When was that?

Watford 2, Norwich, Cov... I just remember reading an article from Nuge saying he needed to repay the favour because every goal was set up by Beckford.

Posted

I genuinely believe that a Beckford-Nugent strikeforce would get 40+ goals for us over the course of next season. We don't need any more strikers unless it's a Howard/Heskey type off the bench!

Posted

You're not reading.

I said above that Wellens had the most assists in the team.. Read the stats.

Beckford and Nuge hardly set each other for goals at all.

Neither appear in the top 25 players for assists for the whole season.

You are ignoring the facts in favour of you simply wanting to say that Beckford is better than what we all saw last season.

Though very loyal to one of our players, it's a dangerously naive game to play...

Clearly says Nugent has the most. 9 to Wellens 5.... what a ridiculously ironic post

Like we all genuinely believed they were going to get 40+ goals at the start of this season? It isn't going to happen, they may both be good strikers but they don't work together and if we get rid of one of them it has to be Beckford based on Nugent's performances this season and the wages Beckford will be on.

Beckford has 4 assists one less than Wellens who is supposedly meant to be a playmaker.. I think the main problem lies in midfield Danny Drinkwater has 8 assists to date while playing for Barnsley and us last season he is Wellens replacement, I fully expect Beckford to get more goals with better service from the likes of Drinkwater and the wingers. The argument that Beckford and Nugent cannot play together is telling one, they don't compliment each other but does that mean oh we have to get rid of Beckford of course not, just get a target man to play alongside Nugent and Beckford and we will reap the rewards.

For a start it says 8?

And how many of those were assists for Beckford?

Beckford appears on neither the top 25 assists nor the top 25 for goals scored.

The so called 'strike partnership' wasn't...

Was the point I was making.

However, if you want to make out somehow that it was? Then that's your prerogative.

Billy Sharp scored nine goals at Southampton in his short time there following signing.

5 of these made directly by Lambert.

That's a partnership working well together.

So are you suggesting playing 3 up front (And presumably bringing back that width problem), putting last years top scorer on the bench, or putting the player who is supposedly on £30,000 a week on the bench?

Again..why?

If it didn't happen this season (with all of Sven's so-called sooper midfielders..Danns, Gelson, Fat Johnno... etc), then why will it next?

Explain why you think a striker who scored 7 league goals all season, will suddenly net 20+ next season.

You know it is a 46 game season alternating our forwards to bring a freshness will work dividends. Nugent tailed of last season due to tiredness another striker such as a target man of decent caliber not Howard to be partnered alongside Beckford would have worked. I think just getting a target man being played alongside Nugent and Beckford in a 4-4-2 would be fine.

Posted

But again the haters will ignore that contribution and just look at the fact he wasnt scoring every 5 minutes.

Every 5 games would have been nice.

Even if you forget the goals for one minute, his contribution wasn't good enough most of the time. I find it easier to forgive a misfiring striker, if their other contributions to the game are good.

I don't really know what Happy is suggesting..i'm not sure Happy does?

What i'm suggesting is sticking with 4-4-2 - getting in at least one better, attacking, nippy winger and a partner who can play directly with David Nugent. Jamie Vardy could be such a player, as could Emile IMO.

We'll see anyway.

Beckford is most probably on around £20,000 a week more than Waghorn and Vardy, do you think he's that much better than them, considering he's much older and has so far done about as well in the Championship as Waggy has?

I have no idea why your post has just triggered this image in my head, but I think I tend to look at the relationship between manager and players as being akin to that of a teacher with a class of students. I guess the school stands by the results of its students in the way that a club stands or falls by its results achieved by the palyers on the pitch. In both cases, the teacher / manager brings out of his charges more than perhaps even they realised they were capable of. I'm wandering .... hang in there. The thought that then went through my head was of MM as the slightly naughty one at the back of the class drawing pictures of genitalia on the desk-tops and sniggering to his mates. Probably because I'm bored senseless this afternoon, I then started wondering who the other players would be. I reckon Beckford would be the kid with the new trainers, Wellens the fat kid that was always the last to get picked for footy at break. SSL might be the one getting extra support for his reading !!! Any other thoughts ??????

You should make a thread out of this lol

Beckford cannot play in a 4-3-3 that is for sure so that rules him out of being versatile, but come to think of it neither can Waghorn. If we are playing 4-3-3 than a front three of

Vardy Target Man Nugent

Would be ideal

In a 4-4-2, a front two

Nugent/Beckford Target Man

Vardy could actually be deployed on the wing in a 4-4-2

So the weak link imo would be Waghorn.

So Waghorn has the same weakness in not being able to play on the wing as Beckford has. But even though Waghorn, when played in a 4-4-2 in this division has a better record than Beckford, contributes more to the team than Beckford does, and has a positive impact on the dressing room. Not to mention that we don't have to pay him nearly as much as Beckford, We should rotate Nugent and Beckford and get rid of Waghorn. That makes perfect sense.

Also, I'm sure you were one of the people calling for Nigel's head when he played Nugent on the wing.

Yeah but it is stupidity when we didn't have a target man the wide forwards were often isolated and therefore didn't perform to their best ability anyway NP is a 4-4-2 man so we probably won't have those complications. I just think signing a target man would improve us significantly one thing it does is it gives us flexibility up front which is something we have lacked last season.

Chambers and Morgan?? Deary me, another season wasted, that's 3 now with funds available. We really are a shambles and it just confirms Pearson is a small time manager.

You Sir have no F****ing idea.

How do you he wants to go back to Leeds?

How do you know he only came here for the money?

Bet you were one of those celebrating and singing "we're going to wembley" when he was scoring in the cup run.

It's obvious lol He loves leeds!

Well why would you go from Everton to Leicester?

But anyway, this is a thread for twitter links..

tbh i just dont think the story about celtic coming in for mills is 100 percent true there is no way a scottish team with that sort of budget and finance they have can:

A) bid big money ie 3 m (plus a player)for a Matt Mills who was a big underperformer last season.

B) pay hes rediculous big wages been quated that he is on between 20-40 thousand a week

C) why would they bid all this money when this is the best time in the season to get freebees? e.g Fitz Hall

Just pointing out how stupid you look telling someone they need to make comments based on fact whilst making one up to suit your argument.

Im not Beckfords biggest fan and wont be overly upset if he leaves but I would like to see him given another chance. I agree entirely with Happy Foxs posts

You claimed that Beckford had tons of assists, he was just pointing out that you are very, very, wrong.
